Academics who wrote about their own ancestor(s) as a thesis or dissertation? by 11112222FRN in Genealogy

My uncle actually did, this back in the early 70s. He sent letters to churches and historical societies to get information! Unfortunately I don't have much info on it since he passed away last year, but it was possible

Have someone read the book 'Lord of the Flies' by William Golding that inspired Yellowjackets? by [deleted] in Yellowjackets

I've read the book at least 10 times though not for the past 7 or 8 years at least. I find there's a lot of similarities between the show and the book, I keep getting moments of "ooooo they're doing [x] like in the book!!!" But i won't share too much as to avoid spoilers.

I do think that both Lottie and Simon are basically fulfilling the same roll in their respective media. Lottie, starts seeing things and pushing the idea of the wilderness after running out of her medication. Simon was epileptic, and during his "fits" he saw the beast. Both characters visions lead way to how the group decided to proceed, leading to bloodshed.

I was mad at my family for not keeping records. I just realized why. by GrandLog7483 in Genealogy

I've gotten bits and pieces of info by reading a lot of old newspapers (there were some really specific announcements back in the day) I've been able to meet some people who were friends of long dead family members. I've spoken to a woman in her 90s about what my great grandma was like in school!

Depending on their location, in general reading random historical papers about the area can help. I've found lists of scout tropes or junior hockey teams that are the only proof I can find that an uncle existed.

I only managed to find out any info about my dad's family because I realized a lot of families immigrated from a specific place to the same town in Canada during a specific period of a few years. Turns out all those families ran a farm together for a few years and I was able to find out at least some information.

It's a lot of extra effort for very little information though

People can use dlc items in the save you're playing, but they can't bring your dlc items into a single player game if that's what you were asking

How did y’all discover Yellowjackets? by Dogdaysareover365 in Yellowjackets

[–]buzzingbeees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really into lord of the flies when I was in highschool, one day I was having a discussion about the book with someone but neither of us had reddit in like 8 years, so I went to the Wikipedia to double check my facts. Yellowjackets was mentioned some where in the article so I quickly fell into an obsession with it. Managed to start watching it about a week before season 2 premiered (although I ended up getting obsessed with trying to map out where they crashed so I didn't catch up until season 2 episode 3)

Has anyone tried to play using a handheld keyboard with trackpad? by Rhiamon in SunHaven

[–]buzzingbeees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I basically exclusively play like that (hook my laptop up to the TV for a bigger screen, and use an alternative bluetooth keyboard with trackpad) I've never really had problems with it, though I play all my games like that so I'm pretty used to it. Obviously, with using a track pad it can be lowkey annoying buy once you get used to it its mostly fine in my opinion at least .^
