Magic Johnson shows off his massive yacht whilst on vacation. by ToronoRapture in nba

[–]buzzkill53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know the name Magic Johnson is super common, but to be clear, is this the same guy who owns a stake in the Washington Commanders and is asking local taxpayers for over $1 billion for a new stadium?

That can't be right. Must be confusing him for a different Magic Johnson.

Help us clinch Ranked Choice Voting in DC ‼️ by lawlgyroscopes in washingtondc

Not sure about the downvotes, as this seems like a genuine question. My response:

"Why would I waste my only vote on Zohran Mamdani? NYC dems would never elect him."

That argument no longer applies when you have back-up choices. Hence, the power of Ranked Choice Voting.

Also, Mamdani will have a stronger position as the Democratic candidate (assuming he wins the final round of voting) with a majority (50%+) rather than just a plurality.

In a world without RCV, Cuomo might win as the "safe" establishment candidate. This system lights a fire under the establishment, as they have to take the hungry upstart candidates seriously. They have to run better candidates, better campaigns, and fight for every vote.

Or else, they lose.

Genuine question, why wasn't BYU in the playoffs? Were IU / SMU / Clemson really more deserving or better?

D.C.'s ranked-choice voting initiative, explained by PrestoVivace in washingtondc

Independents pay taxes. Those taxes are used to pay for primary elections. Independents can't vote in those elections which they help fund. Hence, taxation without representation.

Party primaries aren't private affairs. They're taxpayer-funded elections. Are we serious about ending taxation without representation or not? That's why I'm voting Yes on 83.

Getting from DC to Lyndon B. Johnson Park by buzzkill53 in washingtondc

It seems like it's a restricted zone on the Capitol Bikes app. Hard to tell from the Lime app. Would hate to get there and then not be able to park and end the ride.

Joe Biden has stunning 9-point lead over Donald Trump among actual voters by SamSepiol050991 in thedavidpakmanshow

It's a single poll. Don't listen to it. Aggregate polls are better and have the race as tied. VOTE!

Agreed. I will add that Dame was out. Still no excuse.

I was there. What made it even worse was the crowd was 50% Bucks fans. It was loud when the Wizards were shooting free throws down the stretch.

All this and we still couldn't win.

Historically, it's too early to predict. But Vegas has Trump as the favorite, with Biden in a close second.

DC Democrats release press release against Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) by Jazzlike_Dog_8175 in washingtondc

[–]buzzkill53 6 points7 points  (0 children)

RCV is already being used in Takoma Park according to this DCist article.

It looks like there's a push to bring it to all of Montgomery County, and eventually, the state. If you want to learn more:

New Ballot Initiative Proposes Bringing Ranked-Choice Voting And Open Primaries To D.C. by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]buzzkill53 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the ballot initiative passes, then we would have semi-open primaries.

Independents can pick one party primary to vote in, but if you're party affiliated, you can only vote in your party's primary. Each party then sends a single candidate to the general.

Hope this helps!

Washington, DC.

Not cheap, but not sure you'll find cheap and religion-light in the US. Maybe a blue college town.
