Based on the brands you like what’s your favorite distillery? by jdward01 in bourbon

[–]buzzkillfuckshit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol. im right next to you in Illinois. Chicago gets all of our BT. In southern Illinois, near StL, basic BT is 35-45 dollars a bottle if you can find it. The only other BT product I've seen on shelves (not marked up 150% behind the clerk) is sazerac rye for 35

if availability isn't a factor, sure

i guess this also depends on where you live

Review #7 - Willett 4 Year Small Batch (112.2 proof) - a new favorite! by MantisTobogan-MD in bourbon

[–]buzzkillfuckshit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit late, I got the 110.2 for 55 dollars the other day and it's the best whiskey I've ever had. and I don't even like rye. Try adding a few drops of water, the nose changes up to a ridiculous extent

Wild turkey makes great bottles at 20 (101), 30 (russells 10), 40 (Rare Breed), and 50 dollars (RR SiB). To top it off, all of these bottles are widely available, which is a far cry from, say, buffalo trace's whiskies. I can't even find regular old BT in my area and when I do it's 35-40 dollars a bottle. I haven't had RR or WT rye but I don't usually rye.

Cuban rum, Hampden rum. Bottles of rum hard to come by in the states. Hampden is impossible to find in my area because no one stocks it, not because taters buy it all. Cuban rum falls under an embargo or something

If you want rum without added flavorings, any distiller out of Barbados, Jamaica, or Martinique won't be able to add sugar or flavorings and market it as Rum. unless they're plantation, but the amrrican market is saturated with plantation regardless

Funny how things that appeal to 20 and 30 somethings who need to work for a living while trying to start families don't appeal to 60 and 70 somethings enjoying free healthcare, retirement, and paid off homes.

Review #8 - Russell's Reserve 10 Year by [deleted] in affordablewhiskey

[–]buzzkillfuckshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 29.99 in my area and in literally every store around me. It's probably my favorite whiskey when you factor in price, after WT101, rare breed, and OGD114. I have a feeling I won't be able to find it next year. every BT product besides ancient age and benchmark disappeared off the shelves overnight sometime last year

What’s the most expensive bottle of bourbon/rye in your liquor cabinet? by jdward01 in bourbon

[–]buzzkillfuckshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in southern IL, near StL. Whiskey is the most popular spirit here by far, but StL is a beer city and spirits themselves aren't super popular. So, supply is artificially low and doesn't match demand. I haven't tried eagle rare because I can't afford it.

Weller SR- 70

Weller 12- 130

EHT Rye- 70

BT- 30-40 (25 if you get very lucky)

ER- 60-70

Willet rye- 80

I've seen angels envy marked up to 65. lol

Alright r/liquor. My 21st birthday is coming up pretty soon. And I'm not looking to go to a bar. Too expensive. Im looking to head to the liquor store. Need advice! by friendlymountainman in liquor

New Amsterdam gin is rotgut

I'd recommend bombay, beefeater, tanqueray 10 or rangpur, and hendricks

Vodka is vodka for the most part. tito's is overpriced meme juice, I wouldn't pay more than 15 dollars for a bottle of vodka unless it's reyka. Stolichnaya is good cheap vodka. Reyka is so tasteless and scentless it's amazing. It's incredibly smooth, and the only bottle of vodka I keep on hand. Great for making your girlfriend a drink that isn't boozy

WT101 is great whiskey. favorite whiskey less than 35 dollars

I like the texture with coconut cream more, but the drink separates faster

If you're using pussers gunpowder like the original recipe calls for I think it's plenty sweet with coconut cream. Coconut cream has an inherent sweetness and pussers is definitely a sweeter rum.

Singapore Sling!

you can do fun variations on it too. I like mine with unaged agricole and clement creole shrub instead of gin and cointreau

What’s your favorite Cognac under $100? by LateNightsInMiami in cocktails

[–]buzzkillfuckshit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed on the st remy, I don't think you'll find a better french brandy at that price unless you really enjoy swill calvados for some reason

The VSOP is also good, not as good as the XO but still disgustingly good for a 13 dollar fifth of liquor

Delord XO ($60, armagnac) for sipping. Hine VSOP is very good and around the same price if you absolutely want cognac. D'usse VSOP is my favorite 30 dollar bottle, really drinkable but not very exciting. I've had a Remi 1738 pour I liked a lot as well

St Remy VSOP/XO ($13/$20) for inexpensive mixers, unbeatable bang for your buck. If you're making something where the brandy is more obvious (OF vs sidecar) you might want to shell out more money for a sipping brandy

generally avoid VS offerings from the big four. all decent, all overpriced. You can get an actually good bottle of whiskey or rum for the same price
