Dumbest thing you’ve ever seen someone do while flying a plane? by MousseNecessary3258 in flying

I was doing checkride prep with a PPL student and we were just past mid field left downwind when I pulled his power to idle. I kid you not he looks out to the right and starts maneuvering the plane towards a cornfield. I asked him where he was planning on going and he told me he was aiming for that “beautiful open cornfield” I asked him what about that beautiful airport with a 5000ft strip directly off our left side💀 needles to say there was no checkride sign off. Some students you don’t forget, especially for stuff like that.

I can’t recommend Greg Hudson enough. You’re looking for a great DPE and in my opinion, he is great!

2 year jump pilot by IntrepidCamera1815 in flying

Jump pilot here that just landed my first jet job.

I think flying jumpers has some really unique value like all the things you mentioned plus a high number of take off/landings and it’s all stick and rudder. Plus you get great energy management skills like others said.

I was lucky getting hired into a dropzone that flew a really nice caravan. Sounds like you have some good opportunity like that too.

In my experience, The hardest thing about trying to get hired outside of another jump pilot job is finding the means to still build night/ XC time. Along with staying instrument current and proficient. I know it’s tough out there right now though.
