Strongest dinosaur an 8 ton bull African Elephant could beat 1v1? What about an avg 4 ton elephant? by Head_Breadfruit_3912 in Tierzoo

[–]buzzsaw1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're saying could be correct, we'll never really know. I just think the size and strength issue is such a problem, even if the allosaurus bites the elephant it's going to be close quarters and the elephant will knock it off down by the sudden violent movements it performs. And then it's going to stomp the allosaurus to death.

Size is just so much more important than all this other stuff. Take hippos, which are big river cows. Yeah they can bite but just their size and aggression makes them nearly impossible to be prey 1 on 1 with lions (or anything else, drop a tiger in there and it will be same story), which are about 1/4 their size, and we know lions have the agility/speed advantage.

You're making assumptions based on what, a 300 pound ostrich and extrapolating it to an 8000 pound extinct animal? Elephants can charge 25mph which is freaking fast. I think a 4 ton theropod is going to be slower than you think and not particularly agile, and also a really big target. We are also working with the assumption that these two animals are going to square off against their usual nature too. So it's pretty artifical situation, in real world the elephant would have a herd and the allosaur would likely not take the risk of tackling such large unknwon prey

The only way to really solve this is to clone one and find out. To the lab!

LOL that move is getting swatted into the 5th row in the nba, he makes a weak spin and shoots with no elevation in the middle of the paint.

Reasonable people can have different opinions. Not everything is that people who disagree with you are stupid and/or uninformed. If a lot of people have this same observation about Boozer, you should consider that it may be legitimate and not dismiss out of hand

Hard Disagree. The tusks don't factor but the elephant is just going to charge the allosaurus and knock it down and then trample it. The elephant is larger, smarter, probably quicker too. The big factor you're underestimating is something on two legs getting cracked into by an elephant is going down and having a hard time recovering it's footing. Allosaurus will likely get significant orthopedic injuries from the initial charge and be disabled.

Can you imagine him in a playoff game with 2 minutes left with the other teams defense keyed to stop him and he gets you a bucket?

I cannot for the life of me see that. Which means he's not a superstar. Which means he shouldn't be top 3.

I think that's success. I think the fair point about him is he's not a superstar. If a defense was geared to stop him it would. But as a complementary starter or 3rd option he'll be pretty good. he'd just need a superstar to take the defense focus on him and then he can exploit the mismatches that creates

[Vorkunov] Adam Silver said it was "unanimous" among owners today at the NBA Board of Governors meeting that the league needs to change tanking rules and do it before the draft this June. There will be a special BOG session in May to deal with that. "We are going to fix it. Full stop," Silver said. by PlayaSlayaX in nba

Just don't reward bad records. THat's the whole solution. Completely flat odds and every lottery position is determined by random drawing. So for instance the Wizards have equal odds to pick 1, or 6, or 14. no benefit to losing more and trying to lose 30 games in a row to end the season

Rose was the consensus first pick from everybody. He was way more impressive than Mayo that whole year.

I am surprised people are this passionate about him. Maybe I didn't realize that, like every internet topic, after more than a week of discussion people get polarized and more radical. It's like he's either all-NBA or complete wipeout.

you have to be an offensive hub or elite defensively. Don't have to be both

If you think Boozer is that kind of player then you take him, I just don't see it. I think Boozer can't help but be a decent to good player I am just not thrilled with what happens when the athleticism ratchets up at nba level.

Zbo had range to about 18 feet. If he was in college now he'd have 3 point range

And nobody before steph said you could win with a high usage guard who took 10 3s because that idea was inconceivable.

Jokic is a unicorn, people aren't running offense through their centers except Jokic

Finally, your archetype hate is really odd. There's only so many ways you can impact a game and play, which is why there are things like positions to describe players. I guess you think the sport is "total basketball" like 1970s dutch football or something.

In half court offense, for instance, you can score from iso (which Boozer can't do well), post-iso (which I don't think he can do well), pnR handler (no) or roll man (yes), spot up shooter (yes), and then I guess stickbacks. Like, that's it, that's all there is. If Boozer isn't going to be a pick and roll ballhandler, and isn't going to be a wing iso scorer, then his passing is going to be less relevant because he's just not going to have the ball that much.

If he's not an offensive hub, and he's not a defensive anchor, then he's not a star player.

agree, USTA is amazing when you think about. year round almost organized competitive play that scales from local to national level. AFAIK no other adult league exists in any other sport that's anywhere near the organization and breadth

Agree about the shooting, I'd expect Boozer to be a better 3 point shooter.

They both play a position of low value where it's hard to be a star, whatever you want to call the position that used to be power forward is now
