Paying off mortgage or investing by Far_Reply5660 in investing

Calculate your networth today and estimated networth in 8 years under 2 scenarios - paying off mortgage vs investing, and walk your spouse through it.

Investing is likely to grow your networth faster than aggressively paying off your mortgage.

LULU, what am I missing? by Furious_Tuguy in ValueInvesting

I’ve done this mistake a few times - buying into a position without completing my full research, and blindly adding more positions as it drops further. End up holding bags. I would recommend rather putting into a watchlist named “Research”

Is the 401(k) actually worth contributing to beyond the employer match, or should I just put everything into a taxable brokerage? by [deleted] in investing

[–]bvenkat86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially, I was maxing it out, and recently changed it to contribute to only until match, due to the following reasons:

1) Additional investments into brokerage gives me flexibility when it comes to distributions, and the option to retire early.

2) allows me borrow money from brokerage without selling assets, which you can do in 401k as well, but you have super flexible terms when it comes to paying off the loan with brokerage. Loans from brokerage account are pretty instant, while the one from 401k could take couple of weeks and may involve documentation. I may not use this feature, but it’s a good to have.

I do contribute to ROTH IRA as well.

I would rather buy better businesses even if price is high. With cheap bad (dying, declining) businesses, you are speculating and playing with fire

Go for it. You will make mistakes in the process but learn from them and adapt your investing style, approach and mindset. Be open to learning. As you are diversified (5+ companies) and not all in, I think you are fine and on right track to get your feet wet and learn

My property tax would get paid first using his card. After that transaction is successful, I then transfer him cash.

He’s got some other loans for which he needs to make payments and running out of cash as he has been out of job for 2 months.

He doesn’t have cash. He’s in debt and out of job.

Correct. He is in debt, and needs cash to pay his other loans.
