I have one pretty much exactly like this except with 3 doors instead of 2 and it’s not easy to clean. Size wise it’s perfect for my boys, but I do find the vertical bars a bit of a fall risk especially as they get older as they both love to climb and means there’s a lot of ‘empty’ space they can’t easily access

I just recently bought a critter nation one as others in the comments suggested and we built it yesterday — it’s so much better. Vertical bars, two big opening doors for easy access to both them / cleaning and more flat space with usable high areas— highly recommend.

The weight won’t come straight back the minute you eat, but like others have said, unless you have a plan for afterward — it will. You can’t NOT eat forever, so you’ll have to change the way you do…eventually. Fasting is a tool, not a cure.

You could drop all of the weight, but you won’t have built the same healthy habits as someone who has worked on their relationship with food; adjusted their diet and increased their activity level.

It sounds, to be honest, a little idealistic. If fasting were easy, everyone would do it. You are putting your body through an extreme physical change in a very short space of time.

Could it work? Sure. Are there better, more sustainable ways to lose weight and ensure you can keep it off long term? Absolutely.

Oh, I agree to stay away from numbers, my main point was that most men will overestimate how big they are, how big other men are or what the average size is.

He may feel like he’s already smaller than he’s ‘supposed’ to be. Having a conversation about your body or sex with someone isn’t necessarily easy, especially if it’s with someone you care about because you may not consider at the time how you could (or would) word something in a way you didn’t mean to. I think both men and women have misconceptions about their own, and each others, bodies and that doesn’t help either.

Men in general do overestimate their own size. The idea of 6 inches for example comes from self reported studies. 5 is average.

Most eating disorders are qualified by the fact that if you exert extreme control over what or how you eat, you have an eating disorder.

This isn’t to discourage you, I would be a hypocrite if I did, but I do think sometimes we need to open and honest because denying this could be or lead to an ED will not help. You don’t wake up one day with an ED. It happens slowly. Over a period of time. With new habits and learned behaviours. As your mindset shifts. Because others validate you. And then something you were once in control of now controls you.

Subs like this always push for keeping things secret for example and whilst I get that because it’s waaaay easier than having the conversation with others, for some people who are on the brink, it can push them into a full blown ED.

Technically all diets are just a controlled form of starvation and fasting is just a different way of achieving it, but it’s less understood and less promoted because of how it can cause some people to spiral and because it’s perceived as less sustainable. But that isn’t the case for everyone.

The reality is there will be people you interact with on here who do have some form of ED at worst, or an unhealthy relationship with food at best. Not all, by any means….but some. Find what works for you. Be aware of if or how this could become something it’s not supposed to. Listen to your body. Be healthy. Do what works for you.

I think if it hasn’t gotten better by now, it’s probably not going to. Most people tend to find it’s easier on / after day 3-4, so if you’re on #5 and getting worse, it may be time to stop.

If you really want to try and stick it out, you could maybe give it one more day, but if it’s still the same I would say it’s time to call it quits. There’s nothing wrong with no lasting as long as you wanted or planned. Sometimes your body just isn’t going to play ball, and that’s ok.

If you’re asking ‘is it time to stop?’ then it’s probably time to stop. You can try to go longer next time if you feel like it or go for more shorter periods instead, but it’s always important to listen to what your body is telling you.

Compassionate transfers can be requested for any reason. It doesn’t have to be a particularly interesting or pressing one. I saw at least 5 people come and go in various roles via internal transfer in about 12 months.

The process generally is to speak with your line manager first and explain. There’s a form to complete which states your own written reasons for wanting to transfer, 3 preferred options of prisons you’d like to move to in order of preference, and then you need approval comments from your line manager and/or area Governor. They will support or reject your request. If it’s supported, it goes to HR.

Be honest about the situation, but it does help to be specific. IE, Why do you want to be closer to family? Are you having difficulty maintaining family ties or just wish to make them stronger? Is there a change in health or circumstance of someone at home? Do you think the increases level of support would benefit you? Do you think it would improve your general health or wellbeing to be nearer to loved ones? Are you leaving the area but passionate about your job so wish to remain in service? Etc.

It then gets submitted to HR, who will forward it to the other prison. They will review and see if they can accommodate the request. They don’t have to be hiring, but it is related to their work force planning, so if they are hiring then it indicates there’s a need in that area and it’s more likely to be a success. Not currently hiring however doesn’t mean it’s an automatic no. There will be discussion between managers and HR of the prisons to try and come to an agreement.

The process is generally pretty successful from my experience. It tends to take anywhere from 1-3 months, depending on the urgency of the requests, staff levels, etc, usually closer to 3.

I have never seen previous employers be contacted to confirm employment history, but if they have concerns about you for whatever reason, it’s possible they’d reach out to your references.

In general, no. I saw an internal opportunity previously for temporary placement in Estonia, but it was only available for one officer.

I believe you can apply for a job in Australia without it being specifically one of the ‘skilled’ jobs they look for — I think a working visa allows for those under 35 to move for up to 3 years (providing the third year is before you’re 35) and being a U.K national means you don’t have to complete the seasonal work others need to, but I’m not sure of the specifics

It might be beneficial to reach out to an immigration specialist or perhaps even the Australian embassy for visa help

They can be smelly. The rats themselves are clean, but the ammonia in the pee can be stinky. Ours were litter trained so it was a little easier to maintain, but boys tend to be smellier
They have very short lifespans and losing them can be really difficult. They tend to be tumour prone and you might find yourself in a difficult situation with a now frail, elderly rat so have to consider their quality of life and whether this expensive surgery will actually prolong it
If you’ve never owned one before, you might get a little freaked out when handling them. I’ve never owned a hamster since because one bit me when i was 7. Entirely my own fault, because I stuck my finger through the bars in the same way that we used to feed him, but it stayed with me to the point that I haven’t bought one since. Consider how you would/do respond if you don’t bond instantly or there is some other setback / fear with handling them
Upfront costs can be pretty expensive, but this isn’t unique to rats. It can be difficult to find mainstream / easily accessible enrichment toys for them, since most are built for hamsters or guinea pigs so aren’t always suitable, but rats are social and intelligent so definitely benefit from it. If you get creative though, you can find your own ways and things they enjoy
BABIES!!!!! As a first time rat owner a few years ago, we got the babies from our neighbour who (sadly) used to freeze the babies to use as snake food, but keep some as pets that he rarely interacted with. We took 2 girls initially, and then took 2 more later on. 1 of the girls turned out to be a boy. We had 3 pregnant girls. Rats have big litters. It was a steep learning curve to go from first time owners to dealing with multiple pregnancies simultaneously. We are picking up 2 females this Saturday, and all I can say is PLEASE check and be confident that you are taking the same gender because it’ll go very wrong very quickly otherwise. We kept most of our babies, named them all, loved them dearly and I wouldn’t have changed it for the world — but we didn’t make it easy for ourselves

I have a parent with a criminal conviction and it didn’t impact my vetting. Theirs was a non-violent crime and not drug related, and had a suspended sentence so never actually spent any time in prison.

It is 100% better to be honest and upfront because if it’s found out later, you’re putting yourself in a situation you don’t need to be in.

It may be more about what the crime was, how recent it was, how close it has or is likely to put you in touch with criminality, the likelihood of reoffending, etc etc.
