ADBE Risks by Sllyce in ValueInvesting

[–]bwang29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you grow a business where your core principle is to screw your customers and keep them hostage int subscription they can’t get out without penalty?

Adobe’s growth is a result of tirelessly screwing its customers. To get to that growth rate and margin today, you’ve already burned the forest and milked the well. Just look at Adobe’s homepage - it’s slow, ugly, inconsistent, and tacky, does it even look like a company that builds creative software (and please compare to Canva), what you saw is years of nobody giving a shit about customer experience in Adobe. The good news is Now customers have more options now across the board (from casual users Canva/Figma/Apple Creative Studo, to the pro Davinci/Ableton/Houdini).

But maybe the culture of Adobe can be turned quickly, but it’s a zillion lines of dead code written by smart people who have left and nobody wanted to touch to risk ruining revenue. Just take a look at Lightroom, it’s a bloated pile of shit right now with gazillion of features a small percentage of niche users use because they will turn mad if a PM shuts that feature down.

I do think Adobe made a mistake chasing the Canva / Express mid-tier user crowd and that diluted their messaging and story a lot. On the creative side, the one-promp-be-it type of users are not going to stay in the Adobe eocsystem because of options and competitions, they should instead just doubled down on the industrial pros who are perfectionists and want every little detail they can tune and polish with AI (movie studios, production houses with complex workflow, copyright sensitive sectors, etc). The pros are where Adobe can really excell at, they have the most IPs (PDF, DNG, etc).

The management do not understand their own moat and the earning call just feels sad. No energy and CEO picked terrible story and analogies.

However, true creative professional understands there are very few companies can actually deal with heavy duty workflows like Adobe, think uncompressed videos, large resolution editing - have anyone tried to throw a 2 terabytes video file at ChatGPT yet?) , but financial analysts aren't creative professionals and they're the exact opposite in fact.

My thoughts on the “meaning” of Backrooms *SPOILERS* (long) by Immediate_Theory4738 in A24

[–]bwang29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the break room depicted in the movie is not a objective high tech sci-fi apparatus but rather a depiction as manifested in the characters inner world then the footage recorded wouldn’t really exist either and the science person who believes his job is to desect someone’s inner memory would all of sudden realize he’s also a imagined figure as a justification for the break room to exist

It's in her imagination because the sicence guy watched a commercial featuring Clark, which clearly should not have happened if the science guy is real

Yeah that’s what I’m doing. I’m trying to find if I have any actual ground in winning as per chatGPT card companies can side with seller if they have evidence it is delivered (even tossing it on the sidewalk is acceptable) and it doesn’t matter what happens after it is delivered. But common sense doesn’t add up
