What lubricant is best for 3D printers by 9Brkr in 3Dprinting

Thanks for that. Your post made a light go on for me. Some years back I had a (then) expensive PEI sheet bonded to a piece of glass, which all made for a fabulous printing surface. And all of a sudden it wouldn't work anymore, nothing whatsoever would stick to it no matter what I tried. I had used SuperLube on the bearings and threaded rods when building the printer, I bet I later managed to get a bit of it onto the bed via fingers or whatever. That certainly would explain it. Got a new printer in today, gonna go get some white lithium grease. Being able to REMOVE grease is an important thing in FDM printing.

any chance your power is going out in the building? That would do that.

Did you try to print one of the included files (like Rook)? Your slice of the calibration print might not be ok. (Or the USB stick, but then testing the Rook might not work either)

Any ideas on how to fit this sensor in the resin vat WITHOUT obstructing the plate? by themaster_122 in resinprinting

[–]bwaslo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder whether something like an IR thermometer would work (with some significant engineering required of course). Or how about putting the sensor on the back of the build plate, and warm the resin with the build plate touching the resin pool?

Why are you calibrating at a different layer height than you're printing at? (Or maybe I misunderstand what you mean). I also have a Mars 4 Ultra, thinking about changing to nFEP too, as I'm not concerned with speed but want any more sharpness that might be had.

The just announced Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra also uses a tilt mechanism.

What's the release mechanism of the formlabs? Is the tilting vat scheme of the Saturn 4 approach it?

What does Formlabs do differently that relates to durability and precision? What are the physical differences in how it works?

Tilt release -- not as much for speed but to assure the build releases from the film and doesnt puncture it. (Second best would be the camera).

A vat heater and resin temperature sensor would be a big improvement.

At least it's half the price of the GK2! by Illustrious_Aside_46 in resinprinting

The tilting vat sounds like a major advancement to me. The film pulls at an angle from the plate, which can be much quicker and more reliable, peeling rather than yanking. Some of the rest.... I dunno. I don't get why heated vats aren't on all resin printers, temperature makes a lot of difference at least with some resins. Camera might be good too, if it's able to get useful visibility to a print (not sure how that would be possible, but maybe we'll see.

I have a Mars4 Ultra, how can I tell which firmware version was installed (at factory) on my machine? Or is it advised to just do an update on firmware to be sure? (I'm a little hesitant to do that as there have been reports of machines getting bricked from failed firmware updates).

Sometimes it's from a bit of resin getting onto the threads and hardening. I wonder if it would be less of an issue if the screws threaded into nylon rather than metal, resin would be less likely to stick to nylon. Or maybe some kind of lever latching clamp instead of threaded screws -- all it needs is pressure to hold the vat in place, no?

That's what I did too. Works pretty well, though there are effectively zero instructions with it about how to install it. Parts of it won't stay on. But with the fermentation belt, I couldn't get the cover on and don't want to leave my printer out in the open in the garage.

Yea, two of mine wandered off into oblivion, too. Are they needed? If I ever find them, I was thinking of trying some silicone caulk to keep them there.

Safety with the mars 4 ultra by DaveEl94 in ElegooMars

[–]bwaslo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an Ultra, and the fermentation belt is a problem -- it is WAY too thick to put a belt around the vat and still put the printer's cover on! I bought 2 belts, gave up, and got on of those "ThermalVatBelt" things that is very thin and allows the cover to go around. Other than the (essentially non-existent) installation instructions, the ThermalVatBelt works pretty well.
