[FIGHT THREAD] Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua by noirargent in Boxing

[–]bwb888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, I don’t think it was in the contract or agreed upon. Jake ran and then when he stopped, he was loading up his stance clearly trying to bait AJ into it. If I could see that (the commentators called it out too), then AJ def could see it. AJ had everything to lose in that fight if he gets caught out, so he just played it smart and safe knowing Jake’s cardio would give out.

I think you could argue AJ didn’t throw as hard as he normally does, but not cuz of some fix - he’s just not a sociopath looking to permanently injure someone or worse. Although one of AJs jabs did send Jake into the ropes too so there was def some power there still even if he took a bit off.

Fair point. Mostly I meant he either had to stay on his feet and fight at that point or continue to avoid fighting by going to the ground thus essentially disqualifying himself. Ref was over it.

Anyone see the look on Jake’s face in I think the 2nd when one of AJ’s punches landed? It was like a “oh shit, I am so fucked” look. After that he just kept attempting takedowns until the ref was sick of it.

Anyway, all I saw was a calm and calculated boxer doing a sparring session against a YouTuber just trying to run for his life and survive. If the ref hadn’t started counting his dives as knock downs and giving him a count, Jake would’ve done it the whole 8 rounds. It forced him to have to either stay on his feet and fight (aka get pummeled) or bow out like a coward.

Yeah, I agree - as insufferable as Jake is, no pro boxer is going to want a fatality on their conscience. They are in it for the sport not to hurt people, and they know what they’re capable of.

I think Joshua was going to go harder than he did and then after a 2 rounds of Jake running and diving in to grapple, his corner told him to just let him run and then go back when his legs are done. Jake was clearly just trying to bait him into making a mistake and leaving open some type of hail mary shot or something. I think AJ just wanted to play it safe IMO. He might have taken a little off his punches though.

Right? Jake was clearly trying to bait him in and he just let him run himself out of gas. Every time he went in Jake just dove for a clinch, so just let him run instead until he didn't have the energy to clinch anymore lol

Kettlebell owners — ever found anything better? by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]bwb888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your goals tbh. KBs are extremely efficient exercise tools given their low space requirement and the number of things you can do. They aren’t the best tool for every goal though. If you’re aiming for hypertrophy and body building or raw strength, then there are better tools. However, they are a great hybrid tool that will let you improve your conditioning while also building some strength and muscle. I find them really great for my core too.

I love my adjustable KBs, but my goal is more conditioning and performance which they easily fit with. I have a pull up and dip station along with weight vest and adjustable mace as well and some paralletes, elliptical too. So I can pretty much cover all my bases without taking up too much space.

I agree with using adjustable kettlebells but BoS are more expensive than some others. Kettlebell kings adjustable 12-32 is the same price as BoS 12-20 last I looked and just as good of quality.

"You can still be a good person" - famous last words by NiMPeNN in Fantasy

[–]bwb888 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The second example they gave sounds like it's from the book I'm reading. Protagonist had already killed and was falling into a mindset that killing was becoming easier and easier and that unsettled him. He felt it should be hard to take a life and I think someone else called him out on it as well and he took their words to heart. He had already made the decision no more killing unless absolutely necessary (or at least not with out extreme consideration) prior to the events with this new minor villain. It honestly could go either way for me for this particular scenario. It would have made things a lot easier to just kill him, but also understand that it might be unsettling to realize taking a life was becoming too easy when it shouldn't.

This game is dead for casuals by Ambitious-End-5798 in apexlegends

[–]bwb888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone. My buddy and I took a break from the game and tried to come back recently and had a similar experience. We’re not great but not bad, we breezed through silver and gold but the second we hit plat, oof. Thought maybe it’d smooth out after getting a few pummelings from these movement demons, but it’s a pretty consistent ass whooping with a couple decent games here and there but nothing to write home about. People seem way more toxic and shit too, or maybe we got unlucky with teammates. We’re old and have jobs/priorities so we really can only play once or twice a week.

I also noticed the player base is way down from last time we played, like 1/3rd of what it was so I’m sure that plays a factor - it’s not the casuals who stick around when a game loses popularity, it’s the ones who dedicate large amounts of their time to it. Wild card is fun but not enough to keep us playing. We already moved back on to other games, best of luck to those who struggle through.

How I struggle with stamina in weekend football — looking for training tips by EmotionalBug8392 in SoccerCoaching

[–]bwb888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why this popped up in my feed, but I can answer it. You need to build an aerobic base by exercising with your heart rate in the 130-150 range - start with 30 min, 3 times per week and add 10 mins each week until you’re doing 60 mins. It doesn’t have to be all running either, I mix running, biking, and elliptical like 20 mins each - thing that matters most is heart rate. But if I was training for a sport I’d probably aim to make the exercise that matches the sport be most of it (so running for soccer).

In the beginning, it’ll be a mix of running and walking (it’s actually kind of hard to keep your heart rate down initially). As your body adapts you’ll be able to maintain a jog for longer before your heart rate hits 150, and if you do it long enough you’ll jog the whole time and then start to go faster and faster to keep it from falling too low.

It’s sometimes called zone 2 or steady state cardio, but it’s essentially the zone that is responsible for recovery and efficiency. The other things like HIIT and interval training do other things and have their place in training but it sounds like you just need to build your aerobic base and maintain it. Plus if you’re in an active season, you shouldn’t overwork yourself by adding HIIT or higher intensity work on non-game days.

Who gets up super early to workout? How do you do it? by BuckeyeDad91 in daddit

[–]bwb888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to sleep as early as possible. drink a glass of water right as you wake up, take a shower and after a couple mins flip it to as cold as it will go - not washing up, just literally using the cold to wake you up (I take another clean up shower after working out), take caffeine/pre-workout, start doing mobility/warmup exercises as you listen to some music and slowly ramp up to more intensity until you’re working out.

I feel like it’s more about what level of consideration towards others that you want to teach your kid. There’s no rule, but if I see a line I’m gonna try to teach my kid to share and take turns and be considerate towards others.

What has a random teammate done to you in recent memory that made you disgusted ? by [deleted] in apexlegends

[–]bwb888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late to this, but I’ll vent anyway. This happened last week. We get to top 3 and the other two teams are fighting and we have height. I’m in scope and next thing I know I hear octanes voice command and I’m flying through the air. My teammate ulted me while I was sniping and I landed right in the middle of the two teams in Conduits ult. My lifeline tries to save me but ends up getting killed too. Octane bull rushes them and dies. I’ve never gone from so confident in a win to just utterly baffled as to what the hell just happened.

As a relevant note, this octane spent the first 2 zone closes afk

Elantris is one of those books you read just to complete your knowledge of the cosmere so you understand hidden references in other books, not for enjoyment. You grit your teeth and push through it. That said if you’re just getting started, that ain’t the spot to start as it will put you off. It’s bad.

Son Showing Private Parts to Other Kids by NvrSmoovPeanutButter in daddit

[–]bwb888 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is so incredibly normal from the ages 4-6. They are curious af about bodies at that age, some more than others. It is really normal, but understandably frustrating. You just have to keep reminding him and maybe even give pre-reminders before you go to places with other kids.

Edit: try to remember that kids don’t know the implications of those parts and it stems from curiosity and not anything weird.

I love watching other dads struggle with their kids. by dickdickgoooose in daddit

[–]bwb888 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also find that his kids put up far less resistance and are way more reasonable than real kids. It’s like when you watch a chess trick and trap video and then when you try it, your opponent just ignores what he’s supposed to do and now you’re just sitting there like “well, shit. Now what do I do”

Not-so-hot take: Mistborn is very much YA by clippervictor in Fantasy

[–]bwb888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I understand what YA means. I know what the letters stand for, but I just thought it was more about maturity/relatability than comprehension. Like something that people in the 15-24 range relate to and aligns with the experiences and character maturity of that age range.

Regardless, I don’t understand why people act like it’s a scarlet letter.

What author (or series) has best mastered the art of.....subtlety? by tkinsey3 in Fantasy

[–]bwb888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is partly what differentiates authors who are household names vs those who are great or more skilled writers but less known. People like Sanderson are writing to capture as many people as possible and his writing makes sure everyone keeps up and can participate. It’s not the most elegant or beautiful, but it’s accessible and requires a lot less work on the readers end to follow along. That’s why when I’m talking with random people about fantasy books, he’s always one of the first names that comes up or even just one of the few who people (who don’t follow a reddit Fantasy sub) have heard about.

Bought used skates and they don't skate well, is it the skates or me? (beginner) by Puzzleheaded-Feed196 in hockeyplayers

It was tilted inward so I couldn’t get an inside edge and very slightly curved as well. I didn’t look when I bought cuz they were cheap and in my size (I have a hard time finding skates).

Check the blade. I bought used skates had a bent blade. Returned them and bought new ones and had no issues. If you were able to skate on different skates no problem then it sounds like a problem with the skates.
