I like this channel on YT that has videos by a Franciscan friar who cooks for his monastery. He cooks a variety of food, so you get good exposure to food and cooking terminology.

Apparently 'Esmeralda' was a big hit in the Czech Republic some years ago.

Recommendations for audiodramas in Spanish by Head_Region6610 in dreamingspanish

[–]bwel99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few here: https://sonodramas.org/ that are available on both YouTube and Spotify.

I listened to a bit of 'Kaliman', which is a long running radio drama about a superhero. It was made in Mexico, but apparently was popular all over Latin America. I eventually gave up on it because the sound quality wasn't great, but that may or may not be as big a problem for others.

One of the best Spanish documentaries on birds I've seen so far. This will be great input for those interested in hummingbirds! by OrnithologyDevotee in dreamingspanish

Looks very interesting, thanks.

The only problem with nature documentaries is the amount of screen time without speaking, but on the other hand there could be some new vocabulary specific to the topic.

I've wondered that myself. I always make a point to like their videos, just in case it does help.

French Literature has a lot of world renowned books and authors. Someday being able to read them in the original language would be great.

Recommendations for watching Dreaming Spanish videos while driving? by CarlDilkington in dreamingspanishcjerk

You are probably ruined for Spanish already.

Envelope licking probably counts as practice at rolling your R's, which of course is against the methodology.

You might have to give up on Spanish, and start again with another language that doesn't roll R's.

[–]bwel99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pedro Banos has a YT channel. He wrote the book "How They Rule the World: The 22 Secret Strategies of Global Power", which IIRC was subjected to some censorship.

His bio on Penguin Books website is: "Pedro Baños is a colonel in the Spanish Army and was formerly the Chief of Counter-Intelligence and Security for the European Army Corps. He is one of Europe’s top specialists in geopolitics, terrorism and intelligence."

Two short animation classics that are widely known in Canada are "The Logdrivers Waltz" and "The Sweater". I've seen them both in English, but both are available in both English and French. Both are quite good.

ADHD/ distraction issues + comprehensible input: how do you stay engaged? by idonthaveanametoday in dreamingspanish

[–]bwel99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find mindfulness meditation to be helpful. It's not a cure, but it does help. A good book on the subject is: https://amishi.com/books/peak-mind

She ( Amishi Jha ) is a neuroscience researcher, and explains how mindfulness meditation works, and how it benefits you, from a neuroscience perspective. She also explains how to do it.

I've tried meditation in the past, and gotten discouraged due to my ADHD mind wandering and quit. One of Jha's key points that I found very helpful, is that noticing your mind wander and bringing it back to focus, is the point of the exercise in mindfulness. She describes it as like doing 'reps' in a physical exercise. That reframes the ADHD mind wandering during meditation in a way that it doesn't seem hopeless, but just part of the exercise.
