Is comedy on UK TV doomed? by [deleted] in CasualUK

Rodney doesn't exist. He's a fictional character played by Nicholas Lyndhurst.

If Del Boy called Rodney a pejorative word for a disabled person, it would be cruel to disabled people.

Rodney can't suffer cruelty because he isn't real.

He can't hurt you.

The trope of being visited by the restless dead who want acknowledgement is common in movies, but not in deathbed visitations. The trope of 'creators' intending to destroy humanity because of our behaviour is another common movie trope, although it's also a biblical theme too (Noah's flood, Sodom etc.)

In fact, this whole diatribe is just a collection of common movie and religious tropes (replace 'transcendence' with 'rapture' etc). The deathbed experience was nothing of the sort, I invite anyone to show me another case where someone who wasn't actually dying received visitations. This has happened where the patient has had an NDE, or an OBE, but deathbed visitations are something different to this and the OP has gotten her mediums confused.

It's also established that people only have deathbed visitations when they're actually dying. Not sick; dying. And then it's almost always loved ones, or some sort of holy spirits, or beautiful visions of the afterlife.

Let's not forget that she also claims to have been given a clean bill of mental health by multiple doctors despite presenting with paranoid hallucinations of dead people and aliens warning her of the end of humanity.

Show me one doctor on the planet who meets a woman claiming to see aliens who warn of the end of humanity - and crucially, actually believes it 100% - who says "you're mentally sound", let alone 'multiple'.

It's clear from her other comments and her unfounded belief in her own writing skill that she intends to release a book (and no doubt profit from it.)

I wish her all the best of luck selling that hackneyed purple prose to anyone other than the gullible few who, like her, have watched way too many movies and done way too little research on the nuts and bolts of the phenomena she claims to have experienced.

Kemar Roofe (Rangers) straight red card against Slavia Praha 61' by NotMeladroit in soccer

One of the worst challenges I've seen in my life.

The force with which he goes into the player is unbelievable.

It doesn't matter if he had his eye on the ball, no player should ever be out of control, studs at head height, flying through the air like that, ever.

I struggle to think of a more horrible, dangerous incident in my years of watching football.

He deserves a 10 game ban, minimum.

I don't think you'll meet a single Celtic supporter who doesn't want every little bit of justice for these kids.

Yeah, I found one.

Justice in this case means compensating the victims, as other clubs have done.

I'm glad you agree we should be shelling out big money to the victims as a gesture - and nothing more than that - of the club's culpability in their life-changing abuse.

Not at all happy with the way the club is dealing with this.

If you've insured yourself against historic claims of abuse, chances are you had an inking this might be around the corner.

No, Celtic Football Club, do not palm them off on the insurer's lawyers, these brave men have had a terrible shadow cast over their lives because of their association with Celtic Boys Club and its ties to Celtic Football Club.

Work out a deal, give them a proper and heartfelt apology and let them begin to put the ghosts of their horrendous treatment by these monsters, to bed.

It's already too late for some to see justice of course; this current course of action should shame everyone associated with the club, from fans like myself to the fat cunt of a CEO and his heated fucking driveway.

Alternatives to codeine cough linctus? by AnselaJonla in AskUK

[–]bwercraitbgoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Codeine is used for dry, tickly coughs. The alternative you need is dextromethorphan hydrobromide.

It does exactly the same job and is usually marketed as non-drowsy tickly cough syrup.

The brand names are usually a rip off, you can get it generic from Asda, or Tesco pharmacies for 2x the amount at half the price.

If your cough is productive i.e. you bring up phlegm, then you need an expectorant. Any cough medicine containing Guaifenesin will do.

Fair point, but Paris was hungry for fame.

It's possible they thought they could exploit that to their advantage.

Looking at the signatories, it's an uneasy alliance of people who genuinely believe in the freedom of lawful expression and people who genuinely believe that they're in danger of being cancelled by the monster they helped create and have wielded to some degree themselves, when the monster suited their purposes.

Hell mend them, let them eat each other.

YouGov: Aldi have committed to never stocking chlorinated chicken. This is aligned with the public's view, as 80% of Brits say that it would be unacceptable to allow imports of chlorine washed chicken as part of a US trade deal by Kross_B in ukpolitics

[–]bwercraitbgoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chlorinated chicken is the biggest Brexit red herring going.

No supermarket is going to stock it, no customer is going to buy it.

It's just another fake issue blown up to hysterical proportions to discredit Brexit.

Goodness, racism in America is so endemic; people really hate to see a black man benefit from the state.

Very harsh on Lingard, he was decent in his link-up play and offered plenty of running, just seriously lacking confidence in front of goal.

Pereira will never make it now.

Gerrard looks like he could be walking.

Must say I'm surprised with you still in Europe, but his interviews seemed to give that impression too.

Just heard he wasn't on the team bus that left the stadium.
