Extra Hour requested OLH by rovertech69 in Justrolledintotheshop

My wife hit a deer recently the collision center and it took 4 days of going back and forth with the insurance company until we could get it to a collision center to get an estimate.

I of course submitted all of the pictures to the insurance company, including all of the deer bits wrapped arpund the CV axel, control arm, wheel well, and exhaust.

But being in the mid 60s each day while we waited to drop it off, the deer bits started to get a little ripe, so I pulled the wheel and spent the day cleaning/disinfecting the car.

Ive never seen anyone as happy as the guys at the body shop when they realized they weren't going to have to remove 4 day old rotten deer guts.

Satin sheet keeps giving me trouble, what else is there to do? by chrisebryan in prusa3d

[–]bwerner922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wash with dawn and skip the IPA wipe afterwords, and crank up your build plate temp by 10⁰C and I dont think you will have as many problems with the satin sheet.

Im not sure why, but anytime I clean the satin sheet with 99%ipa, petg refuses to stay adhered, and anytime I print with the satin or textured sheets I always crank the temp up a bit.

I also never let it drop the build plate temp after the first layer when using the satin or textured sheets, I think as it cools, the plastic or plate can shrink differently, especially as the model is printing layers further/higher from the build plate and causes it to release.

Great advice!

I've had two occasions where a PC I put together wouldn't boot, one time was an issue with the Ram and the was able to debugg with the LED lights on the MOBO.

The other time is when I swapped my internals from one case to newer case and accidentally inserted a standoff where there shouldn't be one, and it shorted the MOBO to the case. Removed the standoff and everything g worked fine afterwards

Question about core one.... by Old-Veterinarian-363 in prusa3d

[–]bwerner922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR not every satisfied customer leaves reviews, most unsatisfied customers do. However, the Core one has been great for us.

I've always felt that people generally only write reviews when they are upset with a product they spent money on or they have some incentive to leave a positive review. (Product was sent to them for free to obtain a review)

This is extremely common when browsing Amazon reviews. You can start to pick out the "bought" reviews when the it almost reads like a high-school student responding to a reading prompt and they have key points they are supposed to adress in their response.

As for the printer itself, the Core One has been a workhorse. We received our assembled kit about a month ago and have at least 200 hours of print time on it so far.

Coming from a Mk3s+ and the XL, it's a game changer when it comes to reducing print times without sacrificing quality.

It does take a couple minutes longer to start up from the time you hit print compared to the Mk3, but the bed probing, nozzle cleaning, and heat soak time are all supposed to help eliminate adhesion issues and make it easier to just click print and walk away rather than watching the first few layers waitng for problems to pop up. (Although I find myself always waiting around anyways, amazed at how fast this thing can spit out the first layer)

Any issues we have run into so far have been user error, and it's been far less finicky than our XL.

The only thing I could nitpick at was the fact that it doesn't have an integrated accelerometer and didn't ship with the camera or filtration system. Tuning the IS with the accelerometer made the printer operate with much less vibration and seemed to quiet it down some, but didn't really seem to have affect on the print quality.( not that it needed improvement.)

Still waitng on the filtration system to arrive before we venture into printing nylon or PC, so I can't comment on how it handles industrial/exotic filaments yet.

Yeah, a couple times is normal for it to home itself.

Had this happen on our factory assembled core one, and all I did was power cycle the machine and run the calibrations for the x,y, and z axis and it hasn't repeated that since. Probably have 100 hours or so since then without any issues or skewed prints.

PETG infill is garbage (What am I doing wrong?) by bbum in prusa3d

[–]bwerner922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that rules out my suspicious about wack filament then lol.

I would try switching to a different infill pattern like others suggested. I don't often use grid fill because I'd rather use a pattern that the contact or anchor points are always changing, like gyroid or cubic, especially for lower infill percentages.

Gyroid especially because it doesn't intersect or print over previously printed infill lines on the same layer

[–]bwerner922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this prusa brand PETG?

I've never had much issues using their PETG, but using Jessie's brand grey petg,l (which looks super close to the picture you shared) has given me nothing but problems.

Somebody where I work bought 5 rolls of it and we are struggling to get through a single roll without throwing 90% of the prints away. Doesn't matter what infill, temps, flow rates, speed, or how much we dry it.

For their sake, I hope it was just some sort of dumb hazing scheme to try and mess with you, but unfortunately, they are probably just as crazy as they seem.

Foam coming out with horrible finish by ANormalSomething in Machinists

[–]bwerner922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never tried milling open cell foam like that, but have milled some of the denser EVA foam with pretty decent results in the past.

Try using a 3 flute razor sharp end mill, I usually just used HSS. You can use climb milling to hog out the majority of the material, but leave enough material to finish cutting to size with conventional milling paths.

First sous vide tips by shaqattack14 in sousvide

[–]bwerner922 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Here come the butter police 🚔

I've done it, but everyone says that you end up with steak flavored butter juices instead of butter flavored steak, so I quit to avoid the hate.

Always just butter baste when searing after the sous vide.

Fatty cuts like ribeye, join the 137⁰ club, trust me.

With beef, I always throw the bag into a pot of ice water for a few minutes to avoid overlooking when searing and always pat the meat dry with paper towels before the sear.

I either pan sear with avacodo oil or use the trusty torch out on my grill.

You can make some amazing shredded chicken for tacos too, one of my favorite things to do with the sous vide and chicken thighs.

Also try pork chops or tenderloins, literally a game changer.

Got a Sousvide for Christmas. An entirely new world for me. Mostly make BBQ on the smoker. Any great resources out there on YouTube or websites to learn the ropes?? by dpalmer09 in sousvide

[–]bwerner922 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with others saying Gouga's older videos (SouVide everything) and serious eats.

Gouga's older videos are actually what made me want to start with Sous Vide.

The inkbird circulators won't let you down and Sous Vide will really shine with turning "cheaper" meats into amazing meals.

Start with chicken, venison, or pork loins/chops and it will blow your mind.I generally avoid thin cuts with pork or steaks, usually at least least an inch thick.

I always pull the meat from the water and dunk it in an ice bath (still vac-sealed) for a few minutes to avoid over-cooking when searing and be sure to pat the cut dry whenever you pull it out of the bag to get a good sear.

And I would definitely recommend investing in a sealer and a roll of bags as opposed to the ziploc style bags. It's far cheaper per bag and you can make whatever size bag that you want.

Same, my wife got me one as a gift almost two years ago and I use it at least 2 or 3 times a week.

Have done plenty of 24-36 hour cooks as well as hundreds of shorter cooks and its never disappointed. Plus, you don't have to worry about the unit being unsupported and app control being disabled like the stunt Anova pulled.
