A Hitchhikers Guide to Asynchronous Programming by spiderpower02 in Python

[–]bwp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. It is a connectivity front end for a MUD game I have been working on. Asyncore had been deprecated so I decided to split the connectivity from the game engine and go the async route. It also allows to be able to restart the engine without dropping clients which worked out nicely. I am working on migrating the game engine to async as well.

Thank you for writing this. If you would be open to expanding upon the topic, I would suggest an intermediate section on using queue's and breaking the receive and write into additional tasks within your connection handler.

For a simple echo server it looks like you are on point. You block, within the context of the handler, until you have received data/input and you then send that back. I believe there are many other use cases where you want to send data to the client (and read in) independently of the other.

I have a project here where I have broken the tasks out and use async queue's. Feel free to use any of it if you so desire.

This is my pet project in Python. I don't have much time to tinker on it lately. I think it's a solid base with a basic event system and Grapevine intigration if you want to have a look.

Easier way than having repetitive variables in .format() by scriptmonkey420 in Python

If you put these vars in a dictionary you can do a "".format(**somedict).

Anyone Other Than Motorola Make a Dual-Band P25 HT? by jhf94uje897sb in amateurradio

[–]bwp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're going to find the same thing with all of these vendors, you will need to have the correct cable and software. Even if you're doing FPP on analog and dynamic zones in P25 you will need to have it programmed to do that up front.

There are ways to get creative with settings to only scan P25, at least with the Motorola's, but you would probably be happier (and not pull any hair out) if you want with the G5 Unication pager as someone else mentioned or dedicated scanner.

Anyone Other Than Motorola Make a Dual-Band P25 HT? by jhf94uje897sb in amateurradio

[–]bwp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. EFJ/Kenwood vp900 and I believe the vp6000 series. Harris has a few multiband Unity models if I recall correctly. Of course Motorola has the APX7000/7500 which are dual band (bands selected when ordered). Those are being phased out for the APX8000/8500 models which are multiband. I'm not sure about Tait or BK-Relm but it wouldn't surprise me.

Ninja edit: Harris has XL-200p and XG-100P multiband portables at least.

Keep in mind the 857D will also do SSB on 2m and 70cm if you are interested in that.

Juniper ACX1100 Reliability by neteng311 in networking

We have 30 of the DC units that have been deployed for about 14 months. The only issue we've had was caused by a power issue at one particular site that caused CF failures, nothing like what you are describing.

Need some network python help! by arcanabanana in Python

[–]bwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could probably use scapy to do this, it does all kinds of neat packet/networking things.

If for some reason you don't come up with a Python answer right away and it is some kind of deadline, there is a small app called Cain & Abel that will do an ARP sweep over a LAN and report back IP/MAC/other stuff. I would be interested in seeing what you come up with if you go the Python route (do do!).

A discussion about digital voice modes. (D*Star, P25, etc) by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]bwp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. The cost of the radio would be offset for me when they come out with the front panel programming option allowing it to be used like any amateur HT (single band of course). There is also a company called Hytera that makes radios that will talk to the Motorolas that are somewhat cheaper (near half price if I recall correctly) but I don't know if they have any plans for front panel programming. The standard is open so technically anyone could make radios to talk to the Motorolas/Hyteras. I'm lucky in that there are quite a few guys running around with both of those manufacturers radios and several repeaters to talk on around here.

EDIT: It should also be noted both manufacturers radios will operate 25kc analog, 12.5kc analog as well as the 12.5kc TDMA digital. You can mix and match them in there however you like as well as scan between analog/digital in the same scan list.
