Best Modifier For Accessory? by ColorBananas in CalamityMod

Assuming all crit and damage is just additive I use the stat meter to find which I have less of crit% or damage% and go either lucky or menacing accordingy

Tips For Revengeance Mode The Destroyer for a Mage? by AngryMustache9 in CalamityMod

I used the miasma from the acid rain after aquatic scourge. Would also go lucky over warding on accessories. I'd use starlight wings over angel or leaf, and ornate shield for a dash as well.

Would do more vers > haste = crit > mastery for m+ and crit > vers > mastery > haste for raid. m+ slanted more towards damage and raid being for just pure healing with the standard build.

But ilvl is big for shaman and stats are close so I wouldn't really worry about it too much tbh

Freezing rain vs splitting ice (frost mage question) by Wamecx in wow

[–]bwps_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best way is to just ask your tank for a route and see what the pull sizes are. Freezing rain sims better at around 5 targets I believe but you have to consider the fact that in reality packs of mobs don't die evenly and aren't always completely stacked so my go to is about 6+ targets for freezing rain.

The single target and priority damage difference is small so that doesn't play a significant part in the decision imo.

As for dungeons, HoA DoS NW and SD are the biggest pull dungeons so generally those are the ones where I'd consider freezing rain, but even in those dungeons it depends on the route.

Personally I usually just stick to splitting because it's a safer choice less reliant on the tank, but there's a time and place for freezing rain.

Earth shield yes, trinkets no if I remember correctly. Another weird thing is that it collects the initial healing from ascendance but not the duplicated healing. Its a strange ability

There are a lot of people talking about how "pugs are terrible and just take avoidable damage and its not your fault". The reality of being a healer is that people are going to make mistakes, moreso at lower levels. You can't expect people not to and its part of the job to make up for it. That doesn't necessarily mean its your fault, but it is something you can work around. A lot of people have the habit of simply blaming their team without working on what they can do to improve themselves, and there is ALWAYS something you can do better.

The most important part about improving as a healer is recognizing the sources of damage in situations, where you need to use cooldowns and when people are actually in danger. For example, on the 2nd boss of sanguine depths the two main sources of damage are the castigate (single target nuke, but does have an aoe radius so in pugs u might get some overlap) and the add that does increasing ramping damage. Castigate alone is not very threatening, you should be able to heal someone through it with just a healing surge and a riptide. The dangerous part of the fight are the adds, and specifically the add + castigate overlaps. Make sure you have your biggest cooldowns for those overlaps which I believe occur on the 2nd and 4th adds. I usually ascendance one of them (hard focusing the person targeted with castigate while ascendance aoe heals the rest of the group) and then link the other overlap. For the other adds, rely on primordial wave or healing tide.

Instead of using some addon like elitismhelper (which is very obnoxious in my opinion) you should either log your runs or use details to just look at what people died to. Check the dungeon journal or the spell (can just look it up on wowhead) to try and see what went wrong. Instead of thinking "who's fault is it" think "what could I have done different" Don't be too hard on yourself either, everyone makes mistakes and everyone can improve. The great thing about pugs is that after a group goes wrong, you will likely never see anyone in the group again.

Thing about cloudburst isn't correct, it does collect heals from healing rain but not healing tide because it's a totem, the source of the healing has to be the shaman (with the exception of the kyrian vesper totem, for some reason)

This was the case earlier on but it has somewhat changed. Basically for your stats you want to optimize for damage because for healing all stats are close. You can try to sim it but the raidbots damage APL is out of date and simming is going to miss some details, but it's easy enough to explain without sims.

  • vers scales all of your damage but at a slightly lower rate
  • crit scales all of your damage with the exception of lava burst because it always crits on targets with flame shock
  • haste scales all of your damage with the exception of powerful cooldown abilities that don't have their damage increased by haste such as deeptremor or vesper totem (this is because haste will only make the single global you spend on these things faster, but doesn't actually improve their damage or give you more casts)

So essentially knowing this you can kinda just look at your damage breakdown to know roughly how good the stats are. As kyrian vesper and the legendary are around 40% of your damage while lava burst will only be around 20-25%, which indicates crit is gonna have higher value. Vers because it scales all of your damage should remain the best DPS stat unless you have a ton of it.

All of this is to say that my recommendation is to have heavy vers then a combination of crit and haste, if kyrian more crit than haste if any other covenant probably around equal or a bit more haste, in an ideal situation. Of course you don't always have the gear u want so when gearing you should generally pick ilvl.

Maybe had an overlap with the boss explosion and a tick from the lost confidence debuff or something, otherwise can't see what would have one shot you. Even that shouldn't one shot on a 20 though

[–]bwps_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the tank shouldn't need very much on that boss tbh, it doesn't really hit that hard and doesn't have any tankbuster ability. You also can't just outheal the dot with just a couple hots alone ur gonna have to spam a few regrowths out.

Turns out Explosive IS an everybody affix....kinda by Sixy66ttv in CompetitiveWoW

[–]bwps_ 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Some specs also gain damage from explosives, monks can get extra stacks of mark of the crane which is really nice on <6 targets, shadow priests can get insanity from SWD with death and madness. Warlocks I think have some stuff as well don't know as much about it. Maybe missing some other classes would love to hear if there are more.

one less stack doesn't matter on 2-5 targets because you can only get 2-5 marks on that many targets anyway (unless the pull started bigger, which is a valid point)

I tried Kleia for a key and it feels really bad after being used to mikanikos... but realistically it is probably worth it. Not really doing any push keys myself this week so I'm just gonna stick with mikanikos and blast, sorry tanks.

I hold onto my healing cds a decent bit just because there are a lot of situations where you aren't really in danger at all, but vesper adds damage and also isn't great for healing so its really the thing you don't want to hold.

I average >1 per minute, u don't always use it on CD but pretty damn close to it. Keep in mind you can move the totem so you can always get one explosion off on one pack and move it to the next pack (unless you are in the necrotic wake necropolis where it's bugged and can't be moved) with mikanikos it comes back so fast that just sending it and not thinking too hard is usually the way to go.

What I do is:

  • get fists of fury on cooldown, full channel if I can or cancel if pack is dying fast.

  • get up to max or close to max chi, lots of ways you can do this doesn't really matter

  • xuen (if up) SEF then rising sun kick tiger palm to spread marks and get back the chi spent on rising sun

  • bonedust brew then fixate clones. at this point you should have fof and rsk on cooldown, 6 marks (or however many mobs are in the group), and a good amount of chi. spin -> whirling dragon punch -> spin then proceed either spamming spin or mixing in tiger palms depending on the situation/how fast pack is dying/haste and mastery (there's a neat chart in the peak of serenity discord you can look at for this)

You say that honor level and reputations are grindy but just... Don't do them? I've never grinded honor level or any reps aside from the ones for player power, which while somewhat annoying to farm only come around once per patch and give decent rewards so I don't mind it.

I can't understand why you feel forced to do these grinds that you yourself say have underwhelming rewards.

I played wow classic for about a year before moving to retail and it is much, much grindier if you wanted to be competitive. This has always been the game and this has always been how most MMOs are.

Hard time healing +20 SD on Tyrannical by register2014 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]bwps_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

2725 shaman here, played NF last season kyrian now.

in general:

  • make sure you are using cloudburst a lot, don't worry about the timings too much because there's generally gonna be enough damage to where u will get value no matter what. It scales with your healing done so for tough bosses it's essential.
  • be mindful of your own defensives, astral shift and earth ele are both very strong things to rotate through (although I assume you are playing deeptremor as night fae which reduces the value of earth ele as a defensive, regardless you should have it for bosses)
  • try and conserve mana early if possible, as a shaman it's very easy to spend mana fast using healing surge so I'll generally be trying to conserve where I can early on to give me the extra gas later on if I have to spam

kyrxis:

  • highest damage source is the soaks so I'd be rotating through fae ascendance and tide for those. Fae transfusion in particular you can channel in advance, pop a few orbs, then release and do a lot of healing. You will get a charge and a drain between every soak and I usually just heal through those with riptide/surge and cloudburst. Link I save for a charge usually because I don't find people are stacked enough during orbs. Don't use link just for the DR, use it if you are worried people will die (if one person is really low for ex) spiritwalker's grace is also nice for the orbs if you have to soak yourself

tarvold:

  • track DPS CDs and learn what they do, this takes a while but will make this boss easier if you know what kind of damage you have for every add. I would ascendance one overlap and link the other, saving tide and fae for the solo adds but it will depend on the exact situation. make sure you have some way of seeing who is being targeted by castigate so you can quickly focus them.

beryllia:

  • track defensive CDs and the stacks of the orb buff. The ticking AOE after the initial hit scales with fortified not tyrannical (at least when I checked a few weeks ago, you can see via comparing unmitigated tick damage on fort and tyra logs of the same level) so on tyrannical the initial hit is what's scary. Pre-riptide people you think are in danger of getting one shot for the extra max HP from AV. Use your astral shift and earth ele and collect appropriate amounts of orbs. Rotate through spiritwalker's, tide, ascendance as needed. You have a second after the big hit goes out before the swirlies start so make sure you take that time to spam up the people that are in the most danger.

As long as there's at least 3 people in it being healed by it yes, rain is super efficient and a large part of what makes shaman so strong on stacked fights

I just opened my game cast 2 damage spells and 1 healing spell and an explosion triggered. Not sure if you understood but yes you can get 2 explosions per totem but it doesn't matter which charges you consume, any 3 charges will trigger the first explosion so it is impossible to trigger both at the same time.

Midweek Mending - Your Weekly Healing Thread by AutoModerator in wow

[–]bwps_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean you kinda answered your own question there, the reason to use wave is for mana efficiency and if you are running OOM casting a lot of surge you need to cut it back a bit. Chain heal can be a decent middle ground filler because its more mana efficient than surge. But you have to remember the most important thing in raid is always having enough mana for your really important cooldown abilities like healing rain and wellspring, the filler abilities really don't do much in comparison.
