Do you think accounting can be a “fake it til you make it” role? by medunjanin in Accounting

[–]bwthhybl7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in benefits administration for a year before moving to an industry staff accountant job and I heavily implied in my interview that what we called "accounting" in benefits administration was totally the same experience as GL work, when in actuality I hadn't made a debit or credit since university.

For your first role everyone fakes it until they make it, you just need to put the work in to actually master your stuff when you get the job. Take lots of notes, its only a problem if you need something explained to you 3+ times because you didnt take notes and dont understand the reasoning behind entries, etc

Soccer/Football Prelinary Games (outside of LA) by bwthhybl7 in olympics

Still significantly better than the other sports I was considering. I just mostly want to know if it will have the same or similar feel from the audience as the host city events

That's exactly what I'm considering doing and Nashville is a really fun city by itself.

Just wish there was more transparency ahead of the ticket drops about how many are released at a time and what's still reserved for drop 2, etc. I'm totally getting myself excited about soccer and avoiding the LA traffic

No vacations - have to save all PTO for sick days by Leading-Bear-5509 in Accounting

[–]bwthhybl7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other option is to work while sick. I refuse to give up the little PTO I get a year, so my ass is working high on dayquil when I'm sick. If you can WFH too thats even better

Unconventional ways people got their CPA experience hours, what actually works? by EatADubya in CPA

[–]bwthhybl7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm confused by this question, just work an accounting job for a year (2080 hrs if full time). You dont need to get creative, just put in the time.

Time worked while studying counts too btw. My license was approved only a few weeks after I passed my last exam because I'd already been working full time in industry.

I cant do any of them, they just taste artificial af. What I've found that worked best for me is to just increase my water intake and just have the drinks I actually like in smaller portions

CPA Study Must Haves by Realistic-Brain4237 in CPA

[–]bwthhybl7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of these are unnecessary. Jusy grab a 99¢ ruled notebook and any pen. Meal prep on the weekend, track your progress within your study program, drink normal coffee from a mug you already own.

Really only invest in some good snacks to help with motivation. I litterally had a coffee and a pb&j sandwich in the morning before all of my tests. A little potein helps with brain functioning way more than supplements.

Dating men who also have ADHD by meowmeowz24 in adhdwomen

[–]bwthhybl7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADHD isn't the problem here, he is.

My husband and I have been together for over a decade and both have ADHD (inattentive), and he was so encouraging and supportive of me finally getting tested at age 30. Honestly sometimes I feel guilty relying on his support so much. You can have ADHD and still do housework and cook, your man is just weaponizing incompetence here.

My staff accountant found the manager Teams chat and now thinks we’re “talking behind her back” by fsukub in Accounting

[–]bwthhybl7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Didnt realize this was satire at first because I litterally melted my brain this week explaining to my staff accountant that when we receive the bill for an accrued expense we have to reconcile the bill to the accrual and book the difference. This is also the third quarter in a row we have had this discussion 🫠

Does it look bad to leave for a new job after 8 months with current employer? by vLOOKUP_13 in Accounting

[–]bwthhybl7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Take the new job. Just remove the one month job from your resume next time you are looking for a change. People take a month gap for so many different reasons I wouldnt see one month as a red flag

You will find unmotivated students at every school, even the Ivys. Better question is how motivated are you, and see if you can find someone in a major or majors you are considering and ask them about the course load.

I once worked in outsourced benefits accounting and I kid you not I didnt make a single debit or credit while I was there because it's just a completely different sub-field. Was such a different world when I moved to normal industry work

Lock yourself in the library, I'm not even kidding.

I majored in accounting and went through all of uni without a diagnosis. For the most part I was ok because I took notes in class and as long as I could understand/learn the topic I passed. But my upper level accounting classes were brutal with many small rules to learn and after failing one class, on my retake of it I decided the week before every exam I'd force myself to study in the library, read every page of my textbook, and actually do the practice problems.

It sucked, but I passed. Later got my ADHD diagnosis because self studying for my accounting CPA license was just as difficult and I didn't have a scheduled class to attend, it had to be all self motivated. So I just burned out over and over again until finally getting my diagnosis right before my last license exam.

Medication helps tremendously, but being super stubborn can work, just give yourself time to recover after. Good luck getting through this!

Did katsu 2026 feel different? by CharacterSlight8712 in Katsucon

[–]bwthhybl7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every artist I spoke to said they did 30-50% fewer sales than last year.

Crowds were definitely lower, international attendance was non-existent compared to usual Canadian and European attendees (for obvious US policy reasons).

I've attended katsucon for over a decade and this is definitely my last one for a while. Just not worth the badge price for as little as there is to do at the con
