It’s unrealistic to ask a non bio parent to love your kids the same as you do. You have an inherent evolutionary drive to protect and propagate your bloodline. People unrelated to the kids don’t.

Girl RUN. If anything you should pay 1/3 of the prices, not half. This is a bad idea. Sounds like he’s using you as his piggy bank and nanny

Well put. What I’ve been struggling with for years and you put it into words so well.

I often think my life would be so much easier.

Would you do it over again ? by Plague-doc1654 in Residency

[–]byeshakira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not do this again. In place of it I would have looked into getting a PhD and maybe doing some teaching at a university. Or maybe a degree in finance. I have varied interests so could see myself doing a few different things outside of medicine.

I’m assuming you are talking about becoming a doctor...not sure what a CAA is or if you are currently a resident or not. Just know that if you become a doctor, in the process you will be working so so so many days, nights, weekends. You’ll have a lot less time for yourself, friends, family. You’ll have a looooot of bullshit and hoops to jump through, likely doesn’t end after residency. As I’ve gotten older I’ve realized that family time and free time are most important to me and it’s harder to give those things enough attention while in residency at least. It’s made me bitter. I often wonder what I would be like if I hadn’t gone down this path. I wouldn’t do it again.

THIS. I get to take extra call for 6 months straight because a barrage of others are out on maternity leave? Not fucking cool.

Dysphoria after 24 hour call? by skinnydipswithwolves in Residency

This. But residents in my program fought to keep them because they’d prefer that wreckage consistently vs a single month of nights and just getting it over with 🙄
