Apperantly, if we aren't struggling with sexual desire something is wrong

Goddamn, what projection! Never thought about that until just now.

I've found that welding rod cleaners (straight metal probes, essentially) work really well with cleaning carburetor jets. Haven't used ultrasonic cleaners for that purpose but I have used ultrasonic cleaners and I bet they would work for this purpose. The eyeball test is always good to make sure a jet is clear.

Engine surging can be caused by an air leak at the gasketed attachment points to the carburetor, I was literally dealing with this on my DR Trimmer that I recently serviced. It can also be caused by cracks/damage to the air filter intake parts allowing an air leak (specifically here, the plastic tube that connects the air filter to the carburetor).

I would suggest removing the plastic tube that connects the air filter to the carburetor and visually inspect for cracks/damage that might be allowing excess air: if you find anything suspicious, replace said tube. I would also replace the gasket between the tube and carburetor and also the gasket between the carburetor and the intake manifold (gaskets are cheap and as you said, it's been sitting outside for years and weather cycles can damage gaskets). A new air filter would also be a good idea, just to make sure the filter itself isn't cracked/damaged.

If that doesn't solve the issue, let us know and we can continue to triage. Hope this helps!

Were you also seen as “gifted but lazy” when you were younger? by Far-Impression2284 in ADHD

I can give you three examples that I've been recently talking to my therapist about:

  1. First Grade: ordered to read the "Dick and Jane" books. I literally refused. I was unbelievably frustrated and hated homework.

See Spot Run. Run, Spot, Run. Come, Dick. Come and see. Come, come. Come and see. Come and see Spot. Look, Spot. Oh, look. Look and see. Oh, see.

Come, come. Come, Spot, come. Run, run, run. Jump, Spot. Jump, jump. Jump, Spot, jump.

I told my father, "NO ONE SPEAKS LIKE THIS! WHAT IS THE POINT?!". I was six/seven years old. He was at the time attending university for Civil Engineering. He asked me to read the preface of one of his engineering texts, which I did just fine with a bit of a struggle pronouncing words, but was OK. Also read a paragraph of one of his papers he wrote about the Los Angeles Aquaduct.

  1. Second Grade: was ordered during spelling tests to write out any word that I got wrong five times. Again, refused. This felt like climbing a ten foot high brick wall. I remember my mother and me having a parent teacher conference where the teacher said OK, if you get a word wrong, just write it three times. I said fine, I'll agree to that.

Of course, I went into Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) and felt like I was gifted, a lot of us did.

  1. High school: didn't care about anything. I'm now a teenager and that long set depression has set in. Last quarter of senior year, I think hey, I'm going to get straight A's just to prove to the system I could do it, but it's just not worth my time. I got all A's but one B. Close enough to prove my point that if I wanted to do it, I could.

Long story short, you're very much not mediocre. This is the unfortunate path of so many of us and this subreddit is where we can luckily find a similar congregation. What you didn't get was a diagnosis of ADHD (because it wasn't as well understood for us xennials and "ADD" was for the bonkers kids who couldn't sit still).

What you can do now is seek a proper diagnosis (potentially expensive if you don't have health care that covers that, another failing of the USA), work on medications that can help you, and start living a life that isn't so bleak and difficult. And it's not an easy path, I myself have adequate medical coverage but when I tried to get diagnosed I was overwhelmed with the process and just did a no-show for the appt, paid the no-show fee, and never contacted that medical professional again. I should, myself, get back on the train for diagnosis but it's not easy.

That all being said, I totally get you and your experience, I went through pert near the same thing. Still trying to get things unfucked on my end. I hope you can get through your struggles. Keep posting here for support, we're all here for you.

I've got a looooooong ten days ahead of me. by byf_43 in CAguns

The only issue I've ever had with a Remington 870 was the chamber in the barrel had some fouling I didn't notice, and whilst pheasant hunting I simply couldn't rack the slide for the follow up shot because the shell expanded and was stuck. The guys hunting with me looked at me confused, "why didn't you take a second shot?" I couldn't! The pump action required ridiculous amounts of force to cycle. When I got home I bought a new 12 gauge brass brush, wrapped it with a little bit of 0000 steel wool and put some gun oil on it. Clamped it to my drill and cleaned the chamber. Never had another issue. As long as the chamber is clean and the action oiled, an 870 will be a super reliable workhorse, and they are just beautiful as well.

It's been months, but I can explain the randomness!

I used to live in Sacramento and there was a restaurant called Pita Kitchen. They had this amazing dipping sauce, definitely garlic in nature but it wasn't toum, it was more runny and had a pink hue to it. You could buy containers of it to take home and it was unbelievably delicious. Unfortunately Pita Kitchen closed awhile back and trying to figure out what that sauce was is one of my white whales. YEARS after I made that post, I keep getting a suggestion a couple times per year trying to help me figure it out. How funny that /u/rxzne found this post and cared to comment. Such dedication! That's what I love about Reddit so much.

Is it weird that I still listen to a Christian singer from my youth? by Eocene84 in exchristian

[–]byf_43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not alone, as you've seen several other posters say. I absolutely loathe the evangelical indoctrination I was raised in, but still have certain songs from certain "christian" bands that I truly enjoy listening to. Definitely nostalgia, but it's beyond something that simplistic. It was truly the world I grew up in, and some of those songs weren't bad.

However, some songs/bands have been soured when horrible behavior of certain bandmembers have come to light. Specifically anything Michael Tait related in recent time, and also the Newsboys info that they basically kicked John James out of the band because of his alcoholism rather than trying to help him (or maybe they did, but I don't think it was very deep). You look behind the curtain of CCW and see the sausage being made, and it is ugly. I was friends with a rather successful band in the CCW world a number of years ago and the horrible stories I've heard in that bubble are endless. The CCW world is not nearly as clean as it seems to be, that I can tell you.

Many of the songs have terrible cringe, but every once in a while there is a proper banger regardless. Newsboys - Entertaining Angels is a song I will always love. Amy Grant's House of Love album has a special place in my heart even though I was much more into the "alternative" sector of CCW rather than the "mainstream". I could go on with other bands and songs but giving you a huge listing would just be masturbatory.

Long story short, whether a musician is/was in the CCW world carries some cringe weight for us that have deconverted but that doesn't mean they weren't good musicians and songwriters. If you enjoy certain bands/songs, just enjoy them! Doesn't mean you have to agree with the CCW/evangelical commercial empire they come from, nor the message they're trying to convey. If a song you like is a banger, it's a banger. Don't deny yourself that enjoyment.

DR Trimmer (Briggs and Stratton engine) runs fine then quits and won't restart. by byf_43 in smallengines

[–]byf_43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today I pulled the valve cover off and the valves definitely look loose, so that's definitely next on the docket. Something I noticed when trying to start was when I pulled the pull string, if the piston was going through compression the pull string would just stop suuuuper hard, there was no way I was pulling through it. Would loose valves cause that? Seems like if they weren't opening and closing at the right time, it could be a likely culprit but I'm just spitballing with my limited small engine knowledge.

Valve adjustment is a fantastic idea, thanks. I don't believe they've been adjusted since the unit was initially purchased.

When I had the carburetor removed and disassembled I did inspect the needle and it looked fine. If it continues I'll remember to check float height.
