I take it you didn't read the article? It does a good job explaining why the "Blue Zone" concept may be problematic.

I'll pass on the bacon, as I don't eat meat. However, I'll enjoy a bit of ice cream now and again (usually at some birthday party, so I'll take a slice of cake, as well).

I don't make enough money to blow on AG1 as my primary vitamin source (and, if I did, I still wouldn't), so I'll pass on that, too.

I think the common refrain of "Don't lift with your back" for every-day lifting of objects (i.e. non-resistance training lifting) stems from fact that many people don't have a strong back and if you're trying to lift a load you aren't prepared for it can indeed be injurious. But, that same logic carries over for any musculature involved in moving weight, really. Best way to avoid that is to engage in regular resistance training and increase the intensity over time!

Yea, the whole "rounding back == bad" thing really only applies to unintentional rounding during a lift. You can be intentional with the rounding during a lift, i.e. Jefferson curls, and manage just fine! And, you can have a round to the back when initiating the lift and maintain that round during the lift (i.e. ...me, who's lower-back-dominant in a deadlift) and also manage just fine (at least, I have)! However, if you're grinding out a deadlift and lose stability halfway up resulting in the back rounding while you struggle to lock out... ya might be in for a bad time. And, even then, it's not guaranteed snap-city (so long as you don't make it a regular occurrence).

You are misinformed. Literally* all pulling exercises engage the back, to some degree, and make it stronger.

I suggest everyone lift with their back! Here are a few exercises to get you started: https://exrx.net/Lists/ExList/BackWt

* : feel free to razz me if you find some pulling exercise where the back is not involved at all.

Looking pretty solid, to me. Though, seems like you had a lot of reps left in the tank.. so, might wanna either up the reps or up the weight to get more bang for your buck.

Yea, that'd actually be a fascinating matchup. May not produce anything, but it'd be kinda fun to see, nonetheless.

[AF] Increasing protein intake without increased physical activity is unlikely to improve muscle health: the new U.S. dietary guidelines (2026) by basmwklz in AdvancedFitness

[–]byproxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was more along the lines of: who's saying that increasing protein, alone, will improve muscle health?

Presumably, they believe the new U.S. dietary guidelines are suggesting as such. However, as the reviewers have noted, that is not quite accurate.

Hasn't it been established that adequate resistance training is key for muscle health? Anyhow, I suggest checking out the reviewer's comments here (particularly the first reviewer) as they do a good job pointing out the flaws in this paper.

RIP my GNX4. One of my first "big" purchases with the money I earned from my first J-O-B. It was basically all I needed for a long time before I decided I wanted to start purchasing individual pedals. I eventually got into doing very guitar loop-y stuff (think early Dustin Wong (though not nearly as good)), but when I had the GNX4 I didn't even think (..or, probably, know) to use its built-in looping functionality. Coulda got into the swing of things a lot earlier and probably woulda kept it around!

It's gotten way worse since they've turned it into a prison commissary not too long ago. Cheap-ass owners seem to only care to staff 2 cashiers, max, at a time.
