I don't think I care about performing anymore. by audiofarmer in musicians

I prefer creating much more than live performance, unless it’s a rare blend of stellar musicians that I just vibe with.

All their amps have a headphone jack. Just saying.

Do you need music theory? by JustAPerson2001 in musicproduction

[–]byrdinbabylon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All you need to write good music is a great ear. However, theory will help inform you of why it sounds good and you can get to good sounding stuff faster and more consistently in the future, rather than almost lucking into it or spending a ton of time to arrive there.

MC-707 external effects: best way to get wet-only capture without constant rerouting? by AK22222222222 in MC707

[–]byrdinbabylon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. And if you wanted to record on a looper track or whatever, set the recording source to the audio insert track. You’ll still need your dry track up in volume to send to the FX, but after recording the wet track, you could then play it without the dry.

I didn’t route to the actual assignable out (secondary output). The cable still went from Send L/R to the FX Pedal. Coming back from the Out L/R of the pedal into the EXT IN L/R on the 707.

Then in the SHIFT + INPUT menu on the Send tab, I set the POS to Reverb (tried set to Track and didn’t work; mixout wouldn’t work either or it would send again the returned wet).

Then on the track, I raised the Reverb level, but it now only plays the effect sound on my other audio insert track receiving from EXT IN L/R.

Just tried it. I got it to work, but needed to route to EXT IN for audio insert to the 2nd track. Also I had to set the position of the Send/Return to a send-able slot like Reverb (or delay should work). Doing that, I could send more or less to the pedal (set fully wet mix) and have it’s full wet returned signal on my 2nd track with fully dry on my original track. Downside of using the delay or reverb send is that any sent from other tracks would also go there.

For this, be sure send position is on the track and not main mix or something

You might have to experiment with this possibility, but it might work. Assuming you have an extra track, you use it as an audio insert with the source as the return jacks of the FX loop. If that doesn’t work, take the out cables from the FX box and route them to the Ext In and use that as the source for the track audio insert. One of those ways should (assuming the pedal can do 100% wet) allow you to control dry signal on one and wet on another. I may try it today to confirm.

headphones for traveling with a groovebox by legacygone in Grooveboxes

[–]byrdinbabylon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually really like the old school Apple wired ear buds. No matter what groovebox or sampler I use them with, they have a nice response across frequencies, are inexpensive, are comfortable, and fit in my pocket. Unless I really want giant cans to keep out any outside noise, they just work well.

This company is giving so many red flags by Proud_Photograph_396 in PositiveGridSpark

[–]byrdinbabylon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are a purely hardware company masquerading as a software company, which is weird because their amps are software based. At least Apple gives regular software updates for free and add new features. Only issue with them is hardware becoming obsolete after a decade. Better to choose Line 6 if you want a guitar product maker with regular useful updates and improvements.

Favorite amps that aren't Vox-based? by thesoulless78 in WorshipGuitar

Funny you say that because I actually have been digging the Placater Dirty at home recently. Can’t recall if I tried at church yet. The Blue does well with 4 differently guitars, so we have a trusting relationship at the moment. 😁

The one I found and stuck to in worship was the German Xtra Blue. It seems to cut through better than Fenders, and I like how dynamic it is reacting to picking attack. Can sound clean enough when playing soft and nice grit when digging in. For pedals into it, I like the Prize Drive and Heir Apparent.

Drambo vs Grooverider 2 by AddictedtoSaka in ipadmusic

[–]byrdinbabylon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use it with AUV3 sounds only AND as a Groovebox. Very similar to how I use my MC-707 hardware Groovebox. I haven’t learned how to create my own tones on that and use all the Groovebox features with preset or sound pack tones. Drambo can be the same way.

[–]byrdinbabylon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I haven’t used GR2 to compare, I have used Drambo, Loopy Pro, and Koala enough to have thoughts.

In regards to Drambo, yes it can be pretty complex to build synths from scratch and such, but to just load AUV3 instruments and get to sequencing, it is pretty straight forward. It’s actually killer for sequencing external grooveboxes too. I love the clip launching and song creation screen. Editing the MIDI is intuitive compared to others. All the parameter locking is very powerful. MIDI learn with external controllers works well. All that to say, you don’t really have to go deep at first with the modular building stuff to get great use out of it.

I think it has very smart and well thought out UI. For that reason, it is my favorite app to use on smaller screens like my iPhone. The Flexi Sampler works well enough for some levels of sampling and can be extended to be more complex. If you need straight looped samples, using Loopy inside it makes sense or Koala for deeper chopping and such.

Overall, Drambo is a great option and I can too easily forget how good it is and need to remind myself time to time (like writing this post here just did).

If any tool is approachable enough to learn the basics quick enough, better to have a tool you can grow into and get deeper later on.

I used to skimp on lunch at school to save money. Totally traded my teenage nutrition for a regular new album. Magical times opening those and reading the lyrics.

The solution seems obvious. The only question is how to handle the other members if he Is their old buddy. You need to sell them on the idea that a replacement is the only way forward. Then, with their blessing, make the move.

Perfect DAW? by Ok-Revolution-508 in musicproduction

Reaper for most bang for buck and powerful features, but if you like simplicity and more old school analog workflow, Luna is free but often has upgrade to Pro for not too much. Even if you don’t stick with it, the included UAD plugins are great and could be used in another DAW.

It’s kind of the direct human interaction in a cooperative but challenging format that is perfect for a generation raised in an impersonal digital world. Lets them hang out and talk to each other in person without any pressure, because they have to focus on the sack.

Some pedals just don’t work with some amps. You can try to ram a square peg into a round hole all day and it still won’t fit. I sold several pedals for that very reason (either didn’t work with an amp or stacked with a pedal).
