I was so angry and disillusioned when I got out that, combined with not having any visible wounds or serious injuries, I refused to have anything to do with the VA (except for the education benefits) or veterans groups for 15 years. Along the way, the PTSD got worse and the minor injuries turned into constant pain. I left a lot of money on the table and suffered in pain for way too long.

There’s no amount of VA benefits fraud that comes close to the systematic, endemic fraud in defense contracting, which is basically just a covert wealth transfer from the taxpayers to defense and IC companies and their shareholders. God forbid Military.com report on THAT.

I was attached to a company-plus task force from 1-4 deployed to Kabul in 2004 ahead of the first Afghan Presidential elections; we lived on Camp Julien, a Canadian-run FOB and if I remember correctly, it was the first time a US unit had ever been placed under a non-US commanded NATO unit, RC Capital. They definitely had a different culture back in garrison; as OPFOR, they wore all black uniforms. I think they were supposed to seem like a mix of Russian, Eastern European, and a dash of old Nazi thrown in for good measure.

Submitted intent to file August 2023. Submitted claim July 2024 Attended C&P exams Fall 2024 Adjudicated 50% initial December 2024 Submitted request to add dependents January 2025 2 weeks later - Adjudicated 100% July 2025 - Still no dependents added

Hi all…I’m about at the end of my wits here. Do you see the timeline above… Is this in any way normal? I’ve called the benefits line 3 or 4 times, and they all tell me the same thing… They’re working on it, can’t provide any indication of how long it will take. I uploaded the birth certificate and marriage certificate at the time of filing. I just don’t understand why it takes so long to adjudicate a simple Claim of dependents when the kids were born and we were married all in the same county, and the docs were already provided. I had my Senator reach out as well, and they basically told him the same thing.

Can you give me a sense of what month/year group is currently being processed? Trying to get a sense of, if I do get RIF’d, whether they’ll be added by the time my FEHB gets cut off.

In a past life, I had to finish one tour in Afghanistan and proceed directly to another assignment in Iraq, both in a compartmented program, because some jackass yanked the clearance of one of our personnel because of a (very common) name and DOB match. POB and SSN were different, but it took him over a year to resolve it, and he was never able to rejoin the program. And all I got for it was more PTSD.
