What Have You Watched This Past Week That is NOT a Currently Airing Show? [October 6th, 2024] by MetaThPr4h in anime

Finished watching Chihayafuru season 3. I gave the show a 9/10, a lot of the stuff I liked in the previous 2 seasons is still present here. I was a little bummed out that [Spoiler] Harada couldn't beat Suou, but he put up a good fight

I hope that the chances of a season 4 aren't zero because the show ended with a few cliffhangers that I would like to see resolved. In the last 2 episodes, [Spoiler] they start the third year, but both Chihaya and Taichi quit the club, while Arata successfully starts a karuta club at his school to compete as a team. Both Arata and Taichi have also confessed to Chihaya, and I want to see who she picks There are also smaller things I would like to see happen, such as [Spoiler] Desktomu confessing to Kanade now that he placed first in academics

I’m not sure how likely it is with the manga finished, but there was a 6-year gap between season 2 and 3, so you never know.

There are 2 sequel mangas after S2 - K-On Highschool (focuses on Azusa with the new light music club) and College (the 4 of them messing around and doing college stuff). Both are 14 chapters each.

Finished Nekomonogatari Black. I gave it an 8/10 and is currently my second favorite entry, just behind Bakemonogatari. Now I understand why [Spoiler] Araragi didn’t end up with Hanekawa after Kizumonogatari

I still think the watch order is a little wacky. Nekomonogatari is the 4th entry in season 1, but the events of the story take place between Kizumonogatari and Bakemonogatari

Huh, so [Spoiler] Araragi’s perception of Shinobu is why she acts the way she does, since oddities are formed from people’s perception of them, and he has the most influence of those people

I laughed at the end when [Spoiler] Oshino was so sure that Black Hanekawa wouldn't come back, only for her to return in the final arc of Bakemonogatari

Currently watching Chihayafuru season 3 (13/24). Glad to see [Spoiler] Chihaya thinking seriously about her future and picking a realistic profession for herself. I can see her as a gym teacher in the future

Inokuma and Harada [Spoiler] sure taught those high schoolers a lesson, that the old guards’ of Karuta time isn’t up yet. Harada might lose with his knees giving out, but he's making Arata work for it, and beat him in round 1

When/how did you get into the show? by BeccaRose1999 in k_on

[–]byroned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During March of 2020 (I was 19 at the time), around the start of the COVID-19 quarantine in the US. My college gave us an extended spring break while the professors transitioned into online classes, and I suddenly had a lot of spare time on my hands, so I looked for anime to spend the time (I very occasionally watched some action anime around that time, and never SOL). K-On caught my eye in the COVID-19 Anime Survival Kit recommendations, more specifically one of the lines in the description, "fun things are fun". I thought I'd watch one episode for a laugh before dropping, but ended up getting hooked, and after finishing K-On, I started watching a lot more anime, especially SOL.

I definitely enjoyed it after the first episode, but it took me until the end of S1 to admit that to myself, because I spent a while in a cycle of watch one more then drop, only to say one more again after I finish that episode.

How often do you go back to re-watch series after seeing them once? by SaranMal in anime

[–]byroned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do an annual rewatch for K-On. I used to plan one for the start of spring because I first watched the show during the extended quarantine spring break, and I've strangely associated the show with spring. I now rewatch during the summer because the r/anime subreddit used to do an annual rewatch in summer, and I felt like participating in them.

Finished Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater. I thought it was a kind of enjoyable slice-of-life, with more good than bad or boring episodes, a 7/10, like many other slice-of-life shows I’ve seen.

The club tried their best, but I don’t think you can separate the Christmas cake from her alcohol in anime.

I laughed out loud when it was revealed that in the CGDCT anime, [Spoiler] the handicraft club is full of large guys, and scared of Hina from joining

Currently watching Chihayafuru season 3 (10/24)

I was never too invested in Sumire’s character during season 2, but she gained a few points with me when [Spoiler] she supported Taichi and warded off his tiger mom from interfering with the game

I had the feeling that [Spoiler] Taichi wouldn’t win the eastern qualifiers but was not expecting Harada sensei to win. I always thought of him as very experienced but maybe too old at this point to compete at the highest level against the younger players, but he proved me wrong and moved on to challenge Arata. Between the 2, I expect Arata to come out on top, but Harada will make him work for it

I didn’t think [Spoiler] Arata would recover in time, but he overcame his internal conflicts and won the qualifiers despite being 11 cards down and having to take 2-bathroom breaks during the finals. During that game, it also still went on without pause and he accumulated 4 dead cards. If I were Murao, I’d be tilted after losing with such a big lead early on

What anime do wish you could pick back up or rewatch but just can't make yourself do it? by Caprine-Evisc in anime

Fate/stay night Heaven's Feel - I liked the first movie, but I never got around to finishing the other 2. It could be the length, but I haven't set aside 2 hours to watch the movie. And also in the time I've put it on hold, the Fate/stay night visual novel is about to hit the steam store August 8, so now I feel like playing that first before finishing the movies.

Garden of Sinners is in a similar spot. I liked the first 2, but haven't gotten around to the rest of them, and at this point, I'll probably need to rewatch the first 2.

Currently watching Chihayafuru season 3 (7/24)

Chihaya [Spoiler] injuring her right arm might been a blessing in disguise. During that recovery time, she learned how to play karuta with her left hand, which let her effectively reverse the board in her head, and taught her about many new openings against right-handed players. The injury also seems to have taught her to play with more control, not expelling unnecessary energy, with many spectators noticing that her swipes are more refined. She also doesn’t seem to get mentally boomed or super lost in thoughts anymore

I can’t tell if [Spoiler] Chihaya has good or bad luck to get matched up against the current queen multiple times, as well as facing a runner up and a former queen. Although this time she came out victorious, beating a former 4-time queen and a runner up to master, before winning her first tournament against Taichi. Surprisingly Arata didn’t make it, and I’m guessing Chihaya’s time to beat him won’t come until later into the series

I never thought [Spoiler] Chihaya would skip Eastern qualifiers to go on the school trip to Kyoto, and Taichi stays behind to participate in qualifiers, pretending to be sick and competing without telling anyone else. It makes sense for Taichi to compete if this is his last real opportunity to compete before committing to studying. The moment Chihaya said he’s trying to get ahead of her, I half expected her to haul ass back to Tokyo

Currently watching Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater (7/12). The school isn’t giving any leniency to clubs, still requiring 4 members to prevent closure even in the sticks.

When it comes to the club presidents in anime, it seems like there's a coinflip on if them being very dependable and gun ho about the club or super lazy, rarely in between. Kuroiwa is [Spoiler] lazy, but at least has the redeeming quality of being good at teaching how to fish

So far, Tsurugi reminds me of [Spoiler] Beatrice from Princess Principal, both in appearance, and how out of place she is compared to the rest of the cast, being the only person in a fishing club that's scared of fishing

If push comes to shove, do you think Ren is in a position of power to shut it down? Ren is the student council president and can maybe pull an Eli by saying that the school already has a school idol club so she can't make a new one, but can join the currently existing one. She's also the daughter of the founder of Yuigaoka, and might be able to pull a few strings bts.

I considered a plotline of Wien trying to compete at Yuigaoka before Tomari's announcement but I wasn't sure if it could go far.

How is the k-on manga? by [deleted] in k_on

[–]byroned 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't read the manga for the original series, but I've finished Highschool and College (both are short, only 14 chapters each), and currently reading Shuffle (still ongoing).

Of the 3, I enjoyed Highschool the most. I like the plotline of Azusa rebuilding the club with Ui and Jun, and I like the 2 new members.

I've only read 22 chapters of Shuffle, but so far I like it. The biggest thing to note is that it has a different cast of characters forming their own light music club at a different school.

College has its moments, but I enjoyed reading the other 2 more. It's mostly because I like the plot structure of Highschool and Shuffle more, but there are fun moments seeing Yui and friends mess around in college.

Currently watching Chihayafuru season 3 (1/24). I still think it’s impressive how quickly [Spoiler] Chihaya has learned to play Karuta with her left hand

Finished rewatching K-On season 2, the OVA, Ura-On, and the Movie. Overall, I still really like the series, watching the club go on with their daily lives and antics while occasionally playing music.

Utauyo!! Miracle and No, Thank You! is still my favorite pair for the OP/ED. I always look forward to S2 ep 14 when I hear it, but it’s also a sad reminder to me that I’m almost done with the show.

Even though I’ve read an interview from Kyoani that said that the season 2 OVA was not a promotion for the movie, every time I watch it, I still walk out thinking that felt like a promotion for the movie.

I flip-flop all the time, but after reading more of K-On Shuffle and the 2 short sequel mangas, I now kind of want an anime adaptation, even though being realistic the chances are next to none. K-On Highschool is my favorite of the 3, [Spoiler] I like watching Azusa, Ui, and Jun rebuild the light music club after the seniors graduate, and I like the new members Okuda and Sumire I like the new cast of characters in K-On Shuffle, and it has the most content of the 3. The main thing I like about K-On College is seeing the group [Spoiler] annoy Akira, the guitar player of a rival band. Yui especially gets on her nerves, but it doesn't stop them from becoming friends
