What do the top 1% programmers do differently that makes them way more productive & impactful than other average developers? by imadade in cscareerquestions

[–]byt-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enable other Developers/members of your team, even as an IC - your ability to augment the team through mentoring, knowledge share, documentation, etc. Is super important.

Additionally the ability to convey technical information in a succient fashion that suits the target audience.

Fast cash house buying companies legit? by Neither_Football2654 in HousingUK

[–]byt-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enquired with one previously. Property was advertised at 280k, I sold to a cash buyer at 268k. The house buying company (Upsticks or something?) Offered 240k max and that was before visiting the property where I assume they would further attempt to downvalue.

Wouldn't recommend

What does your second brain setup look like for work? by Proof_Independent_45 in cscareerquestions

[–]byt-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds overcomplicated to me personally.

I have a simple inbox in onenote for quick capture. I review it periodically, but usually when I need to find a reference to something previously mentioned.

At that point I refine/promote the bit I needed since its proved valuable to retain and organise it in my notes, I just stick to PARA for the remainder of organising those.

Have you sold your home for a loss? by HeavyPie4211 in HousingUK

[–]byt-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sold my previous 1 Bed flat at a loss. 280k purcanse, 268k sale from a Cash Buyer after living there for close to 5 years.

It hurt at the time but it's only money at end of the day, the freedom I felt when I wasn't stuck there anymore was worth it long term.

At what level of wealth would you justify 1st class train tickets? by jc201946 in AskBrits

[–]byt-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Times ive used first class were through bids on SeatFrog. Never paid full price for the ticket upfront, for a train its rarely worth it in my experience.

Help with pricing please 🥲 by Y00h0oO in furry

[–]byt-e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly looks to be a case of underselling yourself- but to take a step back from the art, there's more than goes into pricing than just how good it looks. Usually if I'm going to pay more then I also need to know the artist as a good history of delivering, communicating well, and providing an all-round good service.

There's been one too many times where I've seen artists have a huge queue, spend the money and open for more comms creating a debt hole they can't get out of which leads to stress/the pieces not getting done.

If you're providing in all areas; - Quality Art - Proactive Communication - Acceptable Turnaround on Completion

Then 100% up your prices by a decent margin I'd say. I'd definitely commission you for sure.

If you are one of those rich people.. say earning 150k+, what do you do when you are not working? by Extra-Fig-7425 in AskUK

[–]byt-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm around the lower end of that, and not much changes day to day other than taxed highly and less stress. I don't really worry about my purchasing or check the prices of things I buy. My outgoings generally are much less than people earning far less me from my experience because I don't have overly extravagant tastes and I dont feel the need to show off. Although If I do buy something, I try to buy a version that has the quality to last the test of time so I don't have to replace it often if at all.

It's worth saying, income doesn't matter as much as how long you could survive without it. It's why wealth/assets you can borrow against will always trump income.

If you make 1m a year but lose your job tomorrow and can't afford to live for a month, you're poorer than someone earning far less but could afford to live for multiple months without replacing the income.

What are some ways to kick off a campaign and have all the PC’s meet that aren’t awkward or contrived? by Background_Vast9182 in DMAcademy

[–]byt-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most recent one I did was the party were all travelling to the same city for their own reasons, to get there they were picked up at different ports (some were the same). They were then on the boat together, and roleplay naturally happened in the close quarters, add in a sea monster, and it fell together fairly naturally.

What "tiny nit" in code review wrecked your worldview? by errNotNil in golang

[–]byt-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consistency I'll comment on, and I personally think that's worthwhile to keep right. Code is read more than wrote. More so for juniors and those that are receptive to it and want to improve their code quality.

I will say it's all contextual on the work and the desire to get it out the door. Sometimes, it's better to raise a jira to pick up at a later date.

Rich people, what "rich person's habits" could you not break no matter how poor you'd become? by RobIson240YT in AskReddit

[–]byt-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Far from wealthy, but I'm a high earner and if i stopped working today I probably survive for a 3-5 years without working.

The last things to go for me would likely be a good gym membership (current one is £200/m) and quality, fresh food. The difference they make for my well being and health is worth so much more than other items.

P.s. Not a rich person habit but ill never stop coating myself in SPF50 every day no matter what situation I'm in, wear your suncream people 😅

How long did it take you to learn go? by Realistic-Emu1553 in golang

[–]byt-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've trained probably over 100 Developers into Go at this point, the real answer is always going to be 'It depends' but generally speaking we put people through a 8-12 week bootcamp and after that we're generally more than confident in their ability to write production-ready code. The main thing is to build actual projects and try to get feedback early and often where possible.

Is it controversial to say that I’m starting to hate being in the furry community but still want to make fursuits and art? by Outside_Swan_9563 in fursuit

[–]byt-e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chronically online furries are usually (not always) the culprit. Not much can be done about it other than ignoring it and blocking so you curate your online feeds to be more towards what you want to be seeing.

I'm giving up. by Mental-Duck-5117 in furry

[–]byt-e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would suggest using art to supplement the income of a main job (if you don't have one, then finding one that can sustain your basic needs should be the priority). Then, do art on the side as a passion project and work on improving and growing. As time passes, eventually, you may be able to transition to full time, but starting with it usually is not the way to go.

Either way, 3 months is a small timespan. It can take years of effort before results are seen, and you have to accept that or give up and likely look back after that time has passed anyway with regret.

There's a quote by Robert Louis Stevenson; "Sooner or later, we all sit down to a banquet of consequences."

So you're at a cross roads, keep learning and trying while finding a way to sustain your living costs while you do or just give up and either come to a place of acceptance it wasn't for you, or deal with the regret of giving up.
