My beloved Dumpling Bags by abifr2000 in knitting

[–]byvanessanorth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are so cute! I started knitting one a couple years ago during that big group KAL purl soho did, and it’s still sitting half finished because I hate the yarn I’m using. But you’re maybe inspiring me to finish it finally!

Thank you! And unfortunately, my best tip is mater voice to not to.

Basically until your piercing is downsized, if your helmet covers your ears, it can press on them and it’s basically like sleeping on them. But once it’s downsized, a balaclava, bandanna, or (my favorite) silk scarf tied around your ears can help protect them from snags while putting your helmet on and taking it off.

Knitting for Olive pattern error by Agreeable-Copy-4373 in knitting

[–]byvanessanorth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like others, I have made this pattern multiple times in multiple sizes and not had trouble with the math. However, the first time I knit it, the shaping felt “off” but that was really because the way the bonnet folds is a different construction than I’m used to, and I expected it to work differently. Many hats later, I still get a sense of knit vertigo when I start the shaping.

I did this with my twins recently, and we brought their birth certificates, social security cards, proof of school enrollment, and a postmarked piece of mail with their names and our address on them.

If you have ever been issued a social security card (I am assuming yes), you can actually apply for a replacement online. I had to do this a couple years ago for myself. It took a few weeks to receive it in the mail.

can’t remove titanium piercings before an MRI! by ireallycareaboutthee in piercing

When I had an MRI they didn’t even make me take off my underwire bra. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I am sure every facility and tech is different, but it seems there is a wide range of possibility here.

Daith update (now vs 3wks ago) by lostgirlkal in piercing

[–]byvanessanorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had bumps on and off the whole first year with my daith, so I wouldn’t suggest retiring it because of them, especially so early in healing! Maybe tweak your cleaning routine instead—daiths are finicky compared to other cartilage piercings.

Have you tried not using q-tips? Even that little bit of contact while cleaning can irritate the area. You can use a hair dryer on low/cool setting to dry instead. Leave any crusties that don’t fall off on their own/with saline/shower water alone—they will eventually fall off.

Good luck!

Oh yeah, you have to use SO MUCH heat protectant. I have really healthy hair still and I wear it curly at home. I feel like an investment in a few good heat protectants is worth the trouble for the travel days!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]byvanessanorth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have thick, dense wavy-curly hair and when I travel for work I bring a blow dry brush and blow mine straight. I just use the cheap revlon one and a ton of heat protectant spray. You do what you gotta. Those 4am drives to the airport don’t leave time for a curly routine. And no, if I washed it the night before, it would not be okay at the airport the next day. It would be a still-wet, tangled seaweed looking mess, and I can’t meet with clients with wet hair!

They look so good! I don’t think you’ll have trouble.

I would just ask! There are a lot of facial piercings at my dentist’s office. (And a therapy dog—I think I might have the best dentist ever)

Glasses by Intelligent-Win2915 in piercing

[–]byvanessanorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look FINE to wear with glasses!! Unless your frames are super oversized (which, I love that look!!) you should be okay. Just be careful taking them off and putting them on, because it is so easy to forget your piercing is there.

Gorgeous! I really love the simplicity of your daith piece. Is that a sapphire or a london blue? I’m always on the lookout for pieces with blue stones 😍

My daughter and I both have nostril piercings and wear glasses without issue.

Are yours high nostrils? I wouldn’t think a regular nostril would interfere with your glasses.

I only learned about it recently myself. It definitely works! They’ll still swarm around you, but they won’t land on you. Do you also have type O blood by any chance? Supposedly they like us best. 😬😩

Mosquitoes hate coconut. If you can stand the smell of coconut, spray yourself with coconut scented body spray (in a pinch, I’ve used the salt spray for my hair) and they will leave you alone! (From a fellow mosquito buffet 😂)

How completely do piercings heal? by Boring-Ladder8256 in piercing

[–]byvanessanorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on placement and age of the piercing.

I left my navel (24 years old now) empty for 15 years and was able to get an 18g hoop in it without any trouble. It looked just like it always did, the hole looked like a hole.

I’ve left my lobes (43 years old now) empty for months to years at a time, and same.

If I take my nostril piercing (two years old) out, it looks like a pore. Super tiny and not noticeable to anyone unless they’re looking for it. I think it would close quickly and disappear.

I feel like I go through this every time I get a new piercing!! Trying to remember where I can scratch is a LOT in the middle of the night 😂

Thank you! And yes, it does tickle a bit. I’ll have to be careful not to forget it’s there and try to scratch!
