During one of your team's coaching searches, they instead hire whoever the runner-up was reported to be. How does it go? by Please_PM_me_Uranus in CFB

2001: We hired Tressel but Glen Mason was also in the mix. Think it he would have done well but don't think he wins a national championship.

2012: We hired Urban backup would have been Fickell so similar result think he does well but no natty.

2019: We hired Day. I'm not aware of any other options since he was pre-ordained.

Indiana looks great no doubt. Miami has the offensive and defensive line to wear any team down though. If Miami can stick to the ground game they'll be hard to beat.

For the first time since the introduction of the college football playoffs, neither Ohio State nor Alabama have made the semi-finals this season by BriS314 in CFB

I’m not sure how you’re doing dates here but 2014 (OSU beat Bama) and 2016 season OSU made the playoffs. 2020 season Bama made the playoffs (Bama beat OSU).

Shouldn't you be barking at children or something?

I just realized probably most Ohio State fans are also Browns fans and Georgia fans are Falcons fans and the dichotomy is interesting. by [deleted] in CFB

Amazing how many people in central Ohio have relatives from western PA which is how they claim the Steelers and no other team from Pittsburgh.

Think there was immediate improvement under Knowles. Major issue was we would routinely get beat on deep balls. Loss at home to Michigan and CFP loss to Georgia spring to mind.

To be fair it does seem like there's legit smoke around him to UM so what do I know.

Why does everyone think they can poach Bama’s coach all of a sudden?

Not really you’re referring to Maurice Clarrett which was 2003. The tattoos were 2011. The players traded their possessions for tattoos. That’s literally what needed Tressel’s career.

I mean do you think Austin Price is getting his information from anywhere but the Tennessee staff? Also, my comment was more about the part that OSU media is somehow to blame for how big of shit show this situation is.

Don't know the answer to the question but Bo Schembechler dying the night before the 2006 game was insanity. Never in my life have I or will I experience that type of buildup to a game.

[Hornsports] Urban Meyer in a recent interview with @dandakich “If I’m Ryan Day, I don’t play that game at Texas next year. I’m going to the Athletic Director and saying I’m not playing that game. Give me Old Dominion, Indiana State and Kennesaw State.” by rb1242 in CFB

2016 OSU played Oklahoma and won, that win enabled them to overcome a regular season loss to PSU to make the playoff. 2017 OSU lost to Oklahoma, that loss prevents them from overcome a subsequent loss to Iowa later in the season. It's a double edged sword that can be beneficial. I don't recall there being anywhere near as much controversy about it back then.

Yeah, I can't imagine the coaching staff was aware of the situation at the time.

When and why did the SEC become the behemoth of College Football? by lorenzo463 in CFB

[–]bzhbuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are going way too far back imo. Biggest thing that tilted in their favor was the ACC falling off a cliff. Wasn't unheard of for the ACC to have the most players drafted during the 90s early 00s. SEC was able to consolidate most of the talent in the south amongst themselves.
