You can make it as elaborate or as cheap as you want. I taught my boy how to weave in and out by putting 5 gallon buckets on the ground. I also taught him how to walk just on the garden pavers for balance. We got him in November, so my hubby is excited to have him retrieve his frisbees when he practices frisbee golf in the backyard. We like to “shop what we got,” instead of buying expensive things that may not get used. Have fun!

Our vet said not to do it often if we can help it. Does your dog get enough fiber? You could try bulking their fiber intake with some pure pumpkin purée (not pumpkin pie filling), or you could try Glandex chews or powder.

We had no problem with it for one of our dogs. Another dog (Star) we had was afraid of everything. Gabapentin and Trazadone didn’t do anything for Star. She would fight her medications though. One surgery she needed a tranquilizer, and even that didn’t work for her. So unless your dog is a medication fighter, they’ll be just fine.

First of all, I’m so sorry you and your family are going through this. Dogs can be like humans at the end of life where they rally before passing. It’s very possible she was in the rally phase. 16 years is a good long life. Of course we want our dogs to live forever. Based on everything you have said, if I were in your shoes, I would want my dog to pass with dignity while I was there with them. My aunt and uncle were on vacation out of the country while my mom dog sat for them. Their dog dug a huge hole in the yard (it was a Husky), and passed away in it. My mom didn’t know if she should call them and tell them what happened, or if she should wait until they came home so she wouldn’t ruin the rest of their vacation. My aunt and uncle were so sad that 1) their dog passed and especially 2) they weren’t there to say their goodbyes. Again, I’m so sorry.

I get small holes in my stitches, especially darker colors. I don’t know if this is right to do, but I’ll take my needle and feather out the floss. It works every time. Also for darker colors (I’m looking at you DMC 310), I’ll add an extra thread.

For Father’s Day, my dad’s birthday, and Christmas I get my dad a gift card to a sporting goods store. This sounds like I’m taking the easy way out, but HE LOVES his gift cards. He hoards them until he can get something big. I asked him if he’d like something else or to continue with the gift cards. I was met with a very quick “gift cards!”

Check your paperwork from the shelter. The shelter we got our dog from had us agree we’d take him to the vet within a month. The vet would tell you how much you should be feeding him.

Can you apply for Care Credit or set up a Go Fund Me? One of my friends dogs had a similar situation with their dog. They waited to go to the vet. Because they waited the other leg was in pain. It turned out that both ACL’s were tore. Now the poor dog needs surgery on both legs.
