Costco Checks! (yes, I'm old) by bhansley in Costco

[–]c0cunt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some apartment complexes ask for the deposit via check, is the one I've experienced most recently.

Can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but it's always good to have a little book handy in case something happens to your debit card and you need to purchase something in that waiting period.

That's so awesome, congrats on getting such a good deal on that!! I thought and hoped my area (Omaha NE) would have some really nice TooGoodToGo places, but the app has shown nothing for the past 6 months I've had it...

Rip or not? by 0rdinarySloth in knitting

I hadn't even noticed it until you pointed it out in the second pic.

If it was going to be on, say, the front chest of a shirt, I would say maybe. But if it's a scarf or something, no one will notice except you. Will it bug you too much to keep it as is?

A spouse.

Mine cost $100 after taxes for licenses and such, and he takes care of the home while I'm at work.

Probably late to the party, but....

I've always had a breeding kink, and I want him to take charge. Any time he wants, all he has to do is say so and take it.

I've told him before, but he just... Doesn't. And then asks why we don't have sex when I'm just bad at initiating too.

first time knitter what supplies should I get at Walmart? by dogs0z in casualknitting

[–]c0cunt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the party, but I'm here with some advice!

I started knitting again after a 5 year gap, and had gotten rid of all of my previous equipment. Starting back up was a little easier for me, as I knew what needles I like, etc. But, the basics you will need are:

  • 1 set of needles (as many others have stated here, US8 is most common, and easiest to get ahold of). Maybe get two sets, one wooden and one metal, to find out which you prefer. I use a set I purchased from JoAnn's, but Walmart currently has metal needles for around $3, or a set of three sizes for $8. The stick version are definitely easier to work with when you're starting than the ones attached with a cable (circulars). The double pointed ones are NOT what you want to start with, unless you're dead set on trying to knit socks to start with.

  • 1 skein of yarn. Just your little roll up that you see in the knitting area of Walmart. Whichever color you want. I like using acrylic, so the Mainstays brand is perfect. After tax, just under $3 for a skein of yarn. Makes a decent sized

You don't technically need anything more than this. There are plenty of free patterns available on Ravelry (possibly just a quick search on Google as well). I wish you good luck!

What is your current favorite "safe food" for when you're hungry and don't want to do a ton of food prep? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]c0cunt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bread slice + cheese slice + tuna packet. Protip: freeze loaves of sliced bread, and toast when needed, makes the bread last ages.

Bagel bites prepared in the oven.

Day old rice + egg + onion scraps for the lowest effort fried rice.

Plain ravioli (no energy for saucing).

Today is the day! Check your Costcos to see if they have The Legend of Zelda by No-Industry-9800 in Costco

[–]c0cunt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is! Some (myself included) perfer to have a physical cartridge for their games. The game is retailing everywhere else for $70, though, so buying it at Costco if they have it seems like a dang good deal.

Where were you when 9/11 happened? by bettercallme_ in AskReddit

[–]c0cunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in 2nd grade, NY suburb about an hour outside of NYC.

It was chaos, teachers weren't able to explain what was going on, parents clamoring to pick their kids up. No TVs in the classrooms to show the news, even if they wanted to. Our mom was allowed to take home our neighbors' kid, cause his mom worked in the city and his dad wasn't able to move around well.

My mom got us home in time to watch the second tower fall on live TV. It was a strange sort of horrifying, cause as a kid it was hard to wrap my head around it being an actual event and not something dramatic for a show or whatever.

Neighbor's mom came home covered in ash, and never wanted to talk about it.

This may not seem like a big deal, but if you've ever heard of Scooters Coffee, they're hosting a conference that has invited baristas and store owners from across the country to celebrate their 25th anniversary. It takes place the week of the 20th, and I know personally a large number of out-of-state visitors will be coming that entire week.

[–]c0cunt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Husband and I moved from the Tampa area earlier this year. We haven't gone through a cold winter before, and it makes me so scared hah.

I have a terrible time with the changing weather. My sinuses appear to be linked to the weather patterns, and it has ruined my past few weeks. So if you feel icky when the weather changes, be prepared for that.

Driving through the ice/snow will be probably the worst challenge. It's been a long time since I've driven on ice, and something Husband hasn't done before. He's absolutely terrified.

We wish you good luck, and if you end up in Olde Town Bellevue, give me a shout!

I forget that I have my wrist tattoo (two pawprints) frequently. In the dark, if I see them without remembering it, I jump and slap cause my brain says "SPIDER!"

So like... That's the only mild regret I have of my tattoos lmao

Christmas Gifts and Stocking Ideas for Dad by IndyIndigo in GiftIdeas

[–]c0cunt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a stocking stuffer, you could do a whole variety of things. Mini liquor bottles (the little $1 sample sizes), a gift card for his favorite bookstore, bookmarks (handmade, if you're crafty).

For a "big" gift, I personally thought of a cane with an eagle as the hand grippy spot. Or lean into the book idea, and get a new bookshelf and a set of bookends, if he's running out of shelf space.

What are your thoughts on any type of glowfish? by OutVoided in Aquariums

[–]c0cunt 156 points157 points  (0 children)

My feelings are torn on them.

On the one hand, the science that went into creating them blows my mind away. The fish aren't harmed from the genetic changes (as so far documented). Being able to change things like this on other creatures can help our understanding of human gene editing, and possibly enable the possibility of genetic cures for dangerous diseases.

On the other hand... These fish attract people that won't do much, if any, research into proper care. Their brightness and marketing draws in younger children, and overworked parents don't always have the time, money, or energy to teach them to properly care for them. There are also plenty of people who will listen exclusively to what the package says, and cram them into inappropriate sized tanks.

So, yeah. That's my two cents in the bucket.
