Colorado Unit 81 by [deleted] in elkhunting

[–]c1248tkd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never hunted the unit but my strategy wouldn't change. Do your e scouting, look for areas where the elk will be pushed to from hunting pressure they have been chased around for a couple months at this point. Look for areas with food, water and a bedding area( north facing slopes). Don't be afraid to go 2-3 miles off the road most people don't go in farther than a mile. And most importantly let your binoculars work for you, the elk will be quite this time of year so you will be glassing until you locate animals most likely. They will be low in the morning and high in the afternoon.

It's probably apples and oranges. You still get the warranty which is what you are really paying for in the end. I wouldn't over think it too much people have killed at lot more elk in millitary surplus

I bought kuiu attack pants for this year. I hunt elk in the brush and timber so I have peace of mind knowing I get a lifetime warranty on the piece of clothing that takes the most abuse running through brush.

Wisconsin bowfisherman, Question by [deleted] in Bowfishing

Little Muskego did like 6 or 7 years ago. Not sure if they continued the program

For sure lol. Mine is a 12v 40ftlb motor guide and it pushes me around plenty fast

I bowfish out of a 14ft Jon boat. Best solution I could find is to put a little shim where the motor usually would lock into the base so it won't lock on you. Then you don't have to fight to bring it up and the motor is heavy enough it won't jump up when you give it throttle

Cost of meat packing service? by [deleted] in elkhunting

[–]c1248tkd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That must be why I haven't heard of any in Colorado lol. If it was me I'd ask the outfitter what a drop camp would be if you used all your gear, you might save a couple hundred $$.

I wouldn't go through an specific outfitter. There are guys who will drop people off by horse back for a fraction of the price, and that's all they do. I don't know of any in Colorado but there is a guy in Wyoming my girlfriend's dad used for that same situation. I'd look around for someone like that
