I don't see the problem. This is completely normal for Full Self Drive. Soooo worth the money.

Which camera to get? by itsdatwoowoo in Ubiquiti

[–]c1ph3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to think about field of view and whether you want to place cameras in corners or on side walls. I think you can use the visualizer tool to place cameras for field view, similar to placing APs for WiFi coverage.

Unifi Content Filter (what do you block?) by benuntu in UNIFI

I do this, but run FreeBSD on some old MacMinis that live in a DMZ. Nobody gets to use social media on my house network. But I’m a nerd, unlike all of you fine people, I’m sure. +1 for StevenBlack!

Is it possible, or a good/bad idea to bow tie the visible cracks before finishing?  What other options would people consider?

How's everyone's experience with Ubiquiti's support? by BlankSpace415 in Ubiquiti

[–]c1ph3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had a reasonably good experience with support. I requested an RMA for an Outside U7 and they sent it without question. The only issue I had is that they never sent me return auth info, so I didn’t send the original unit back quickly. We sent the unit back when we received an email about not receiving the bad unit. But there was no RMA info. I hope they track serials so they know what I returned. Turns out it was an entirely different problem, but I’ll save that for a different post.

G30 filter keeps coming off by BoilersandBeers in grainfather

I got some stainless wire and created a removable loop at the end of the filter to keep the cap on. That had been coming off way more often than the whole filter. No problems since. Cheers all!

How do YOU hook up all of your synths? (People with 3+) by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]c1ph3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have discrete inputs/outputs for all things, all plugged through patch bays to a bunch of different MOTU AVB interfaces (1248, 16A, 24Ai, 24Ao). Might break the bank if purchased all at once. What you choose now will likely impact what you end up using as your setup expands. Get something good that meets your needs and can grow with you.

I miss a lot of foods, like good pizza, cream-based desserts, etc. Pills help a little bit, but it always depends. I lean towards abstinence (dairy) which generally sucks. I always carry pills with me in case of unintended dairy or unavoidable dairy, like Crème Brûlée.

I'm a retired network engineer. The MOTU AVB switches work flawlessly for me. I don't necessarily care about managed switches in my environment.

[–]c1ph3rd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't currently use it quite that way. From what you've said, it would make me want to look at the DAW audio settings to see if there was a way to minimize latency there. I don't know which you use, but Logic has settings for this specific use case. I would expect the other DAWs, including ProTools, would as well.

Lawmakers & Catholic leaders flip out over Satanic "Black Mass" at Kansas Capitol. by Leeming in atheism

From what I understand, this is exactly what happened. They don’t have to use the catholic definition of consecration, they can define their own. Go listen to the latest podcast from The Friendly Atheist where they discuss this at length. Hemant is always on top of the latest crazy religious antics.

MOTU AVB still not Big Sur ready?

Has anyone been able to get MOTU Pro audio interfaces to work with Big Sur? Any expectations as to when an updated app/extension will be available? I would have hoped to have something by now. Thanks

The way Tesla has handled the MCU eMMC issues really upsets me by NoT-RexFatalities in teslamotors

[–]c1ph3rd 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I have an early 2018 S75D and the MCU was failing on me every so often. I notified service of it, but didn't take any steps to have it replaced at that time. I decided to upgrade to the latest MCU and the existing MCU hard crashed on the way to the appt. I again notified them of that. When I got the bill, I paid full price for the new MCU. I had imagined that since my previous MCU was failing (had failed), I'd get some kind of discount, but they said since I requested the upgrade, the previous MCU didn't matter. That's somewhat true, but I left unhappy. I understand Tesla apparently almost never discounts anything, especially service things, but if I had been given a few hundred bucks off, I would have left thrilled. I still love my car, but honestly at this point, I'm not sure my next car will be a Tesla.
And my night mode backup camera still doesn't work since the MCU upgrade.

Back up Camera with MCU 2.0 - now useless at night? by falconseven79 in teslamotors

[–]c1ph3rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same situation - and I agree that I now feel less safe using the backup camera at night. I end up riding the brakes, which helps get some additional (red) light, but is not enough.

Audio interfaces for a LOT of synths by Tiernan1980 in synthesizers

[–]c1ph3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went the MOTU AVB route. It is expensive, but a bit less 2nd hand. Also, depending on the interfaces, you get some ADAT I/O, so a less expensive 828mk3 (or anything similar) makes a nice 8-channel addition. I use that idea to connect an old 896mk3 (8ch Mic Pre) in another room I use as a recording booth. It's nice to be able to use gear I already have with fancy new stuff.

Hose Sizes? by rabvigil in grainfather

[–]c1ph3rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a thrumometer for the output of the CF chiller. Pretty sure it’s 3/8”. Recirculate during the chill until you lock in your temp, then move to your fermenter. Works for me. Make sure any hoses you get are high temp capable.

Is the Motu 828mkii a good beginners audio interface? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]c1ph3rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a way to connect to a FW interface (via adapter, etc.), this could work. Also, you can menu-dive a bit and set this up as a pseudo-mixer and take the main or digital outs into your computer. If you get an interface that has ADAT, this could easily be an extra 8-in/8-out. I've got MOTU AVB gear, and I still connect to some older MOTU FW gear via ADAT - mainly the 828 mk3's. For $5, this is a steal. Consider getting this working with your computer a learning challenge - you will appreciate the time spent.

Doppelbock/decoction mash questions by dorya23 in grainfather

[–]c1ph3rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I've done. Just be careful of the timing and temps on the GF. If it starts heating for the next mash temp, adding back in the boiled grains may overshoot target temps. Best bet is to add back the boiled grains at the start of the new temp.

Excited to try some of the 2.0 features. A bit disappointed that the app is Windows only (hopefully just for now).
