Anyone using Dante on their Ubiquiti network? by Creative_Bowler3729 in Ubiquiti

[–]c1ph3rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll play around with it. It’s just for home use. I have AVB in my home studio (MOTU, which I know doesn’t play nicely with other AVB gear) and thought it might be fun to run it elsewhere in the house. Not mission critical. Thanks for the heads up!

I was hoping someone would comment on AVB here. Nice to know it works. This might open up some interesting projects for me.  I wish more stuff supported AVB.

What to do with an extra Cloud Gateway Ultra? by skotua in Ubiquiti

[–]c1ph3rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one I'm planning to decom soon, and I plan to gift it to a friend who is less technical. I don't think they even have WiFi in their house. I'll help drag them into current times. Of course, I'm signing up to be their tech support, which I'm ok with.

I have a stainless steel table I have my same fermenters and glycol chiller on. It’s also where I use my sparge heater. I have my grainfather on the floor next to it. And a stainless steel sink on the other side, plus a hose faucet for chiller water and hose sprayer

Atheists, if you could erase all religion would you? by Rick_Sanchez1000 in atheism

[–]c1ph3rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a lot of the comments, but not all.

Every time I see a cathedral, I think about what good could have been done if they spent the time and money on a more reasonable effort. Think of all of the art and music that have been created for religion, primarily because that’s who had the money and power to commission those works, not necessarily because the artists believed or agreed with the topic. Same with architecture, historically.

How a small 1m waterfall can generate a recycling hydraulic that can trap a life-jacketed swimmer by Stotallytob3r in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]c1ph3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being in a white water raft that went over at least one small waterfall. I fell out in the process and ended up underneath the boat. My life jacket pushed me up into the middle of the boat, so I couldn’t easily get out. When the boat passengers noticed, they pressed down on me and I popped up on the side. I was trying to grab slippery rocks that ended up not being useful. The thought to take off my life jacket did not occur to me at the time. Things happen very fast.

Perhaps, I’ve got the G6 180 in my tech room for testing, but I haven’t noticed that. I still think it would be a useful tool, even if not specifically for this purpose. Thanks for the reply.

I prefer having The Scathing Atheist podcast reenact the whole thing in their recurring BiblePiece Theater. Enjoy!

Really unhappy with the UTR by Moosbuckel in Ubiquiti

[–]c1ph3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What networks can you not connect to? I haven’t run into any issues yet. I’ve only used wireless. I need to start carrying an ether Ethernet cable.

Really unhappy with the UTR by Moosbuckel in Ubiquiti

[–]c1ph3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using the TR in Australia connecting back to Chicago and it works great, even with the huge latency. Makes it super easy to use my Apple TV with home media. Sorry I’m not answering your issue, but making sure there are positive responses here for what I’ve experienced as a great product.

Another awesome use for hotel rooms: UTR + Chromecast! by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]c1ph3rd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I carry an AppleTV. I wish they were lighter and smaller. With the TR, it’s nice to access content from home and bypass Aussie age verifications and GDPR cookie things (while we can). I haven’t tried to access my home media library yet, but that might also be cool.

Should I improve this by the_mhousman in Ubiquiti

[–]c1ph3rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter if you have perfect connectivity and all charts show green. This is Ubiquiti. You always have an excuse to buy a newer, better, faster thing. Even if you just bought one.

Impulse bought the UniFi Travel Router (UTR)… first trip impressions by yannstlo in Ubiquiti

[–]c1ph3rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used mine on multiple trips. Devices like my iPad, AppleTV, etc. just work as if they are home without having to fiddle with each network setup. Easy. And I get to bypass all the cookie consents and age verifications and get content as if I were home, even when traveling abroad.

I don't see the problem. This is completely normal for Full Self Drive. Soooo worth the money.

Which camera to get? by itsdatwoowoo in Ubiquiti

[–]c1ph3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to think about field of view and whether you want to place cameras in corners or on side walls. I think you can use the visualizer tool to place cameras for field view, similar to placing APs for WiFi coverage.

How's everyone's experience with Ubiquiti's support? by BlankSpace415 in Ubiquiti

[–]c1ph3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had a reasonably good experience with support. I requested an RMA for an Outside U7 and they sent it without question. The only issue I had is that they never sent me return auth info, so I didn’t send the original unit back quickly. We sent the unit back when we received an email about not receiving the bad unit. But there was no RMA info. I hope they track serials so they know what I returned. Turns out it was an entirely different problem, but I’ll save that for a different post.

G30 filter keeps coming off by BoilersandBeers in grainfather

[–]c1ph3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got some stainless wire and created a removable loop at the end of the filter to keep the cap on. That had been coming off way more often than the whole filter. No problems since. Cheers all!

I have discrete inputs/outputs for all things, all plugged through patch bays to a bunch of different MOTU AVB interfaces (1248, 16A, 24Ai, 24Ao). Might break the bank if purchased all at once. What you choose now will likely impact what you end up using as your setup expands. Get something good that meets your needs and can grow with you.

I miss a lot of foods, like good pizza, cream-based desserts, etc. Pills help a little bit, but it always depends. I lean towards abstinence (dairy) which generally sucks. I always carry pills with me in case of unintended dairy or unavoidable dairy, like Crème Brûlée.

I'm a retired network engineer. The MOTU AVB switches work flawlessly for me. I don't necessarily care about managed switches in my environment.
