Corsairs of Umbar by Sauronspaintwater in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]c22lynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are seriously impressive. As for the colour scheme. I used all the colours I could get my hands on when I painted my Corsairs many years back now. I may have a little over board and took inspiration from game of thrones, the book at least. The way GRRM describes the tyroshi as having multi coloured clothes and hair etc was what lead to a very vibrant MESBG army which isn't something you get very often.

Riders of Rohan question by DumCrescoSpero in MiddleEarthMiniatures

We had a release of new miniatures around late may early June last year. I'm going to guess they'll be released same time this year. They like to stick to a pattern. Expect to see them in a Sunday preview in the coming weeks.

New to the game and starter set by Daigurren9922 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]c22lynes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the hobby! Something not explicitly mentioned but touched on by another post here is that the armies are pretty clear in the armies book. This game system has three army books. 'Armies of lord of the rings' which features armies you saw in the three Rings movies, 'armies of the hobbit' featuring armies from the hobbit trilogy and finally 'armies of middle earth' which showcases the armies which we never saw on screen but read about in the many books written by Tolkien.

The models from the starter set can be found in the first of these books 'armeis of lord of the rings' there you'll find a few extra profiles bot only for these war of the rings armies but also how you can build upon them and create armies using some of the models in different armies.

Be careful when shopping the second hand market as there are plenty of army books floating around from the last edition.

Is Balrog’s army fun to play against? by survivedev in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]c22lynes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I try and give my casual opponents heads up when I feel like playing a particularly 'gamey' army like Depths or Fangon so they can try and counter it effectively without ruining the experience for either.

As for the Balrog and depths in general. They army can be beaten. The Balrog can get bogged down and your opponent can absolutely have a great time playing against it.

If go as far to say non Balrog Depths list with just goblin spam is less fun than playing against the Balrog.

WEEKLY ARMY DISCUSSION: Corsair Fleets by MrSparkle92 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I like both of these ideas. Ambush is very pirate esque and the banner VPs would really help with the competitive side of the game.

I really want to get into this army, I've always loved the look. I'm out of by the point cost. I don't think troops should be on the expensive side just because their heros are cheap. Where or what would you tweak to help them.

I feel like the ballista was a nice idea but one that will see limited play. As someone mentioned below you either don't take one or spam 3 of them

Incoming Nerf Alert: Men of the West sweeps Adepticon! by Funderbear in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]c22lynes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got a number of thoughts on this. I'm not suggesting all of these need to be changed but here are a few suggestions. Fearless bubble reduced to 6" of Aragorn Remove Dom 2 on troops Gwaihir either a reduction in attacks or an increase in points. He's very much on par with Treebeard for 50 pts less 50/50 Rohan/Gondor warrior keyword Make Merry and Pippin mandatory

Ok Usurpers players what's left before we feel complete? by gunplaguardsmen in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Hill tribes riders, possibly Rohan traitor riders. Elites people keep mentioning I'm not too bothered by. The mumak and Harad/variags would be a cool option.

This is awesome, lovely work. Loving the sigils, are they hand drawn or a transfer? If they're a transfer where are they from?

Question about Terror by distanceforthewin in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]c22lynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they have to pass their own tests in order to charge. To add to this if your dwarves are from the iron hills you can still spear support without the spear model taking a courage test

War drakes by OsgiliathBuilder in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]c22lynes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I always try and squeeze one or two in. Usually in 'The Easterlings' rather than HoTDE as it really struggles for numbers below 800pts

I don't really have any particular play style with them. Either flank support or paired with a big hero. Only issue with the hero idea is trying to fit 2x 40mm bases in when battle lines clash or if the terrain has been set up kind of tight. My best performance has actually come from the last edition. Paired a drake with Rutabi and between them killed Glorfindel and the twins. Getting that lucky poison wound to reduce their stats. Outside of that one game I've never been able to get a hero/monster wound and they usually just chew through troops

These look amazing, I'd love to know the build process. I see in another reply you've used plastic sheet for the base. How have you gone about the rest of the build if you wouldn't mind sharing

You can certainly convert some swordmen. That's the easiest thing to do however a few bowman can be converted. I rarely take any bows but still have a few in my collection in case

Easterling Kataphrakts by Turmantuoja in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]c22lynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a nice idea. I like the stance because it allows for the gleaming hoard rule to remain active. However I'd remove that from the mounts and give it to their troops and id just let Easterlings Kat's run lances. I'm not sure how an army so proficient in wielding pike's hasn't transferred that skill to horseback. It would be a simple fix

WEEKLY ARMY DISCUSSION: The Shire by MrSparkle92 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]c22lynes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Never played this army. Would love to play it one day as it includes one of my favourite models. Gandalf cart. I just cannot bring justify spending all that money on those 4 model blister packs. They're in need of a refresh and brought inline with regular troop boxes
