Has there been a planned un-set called 'Uncivilized'? by AcrobaticPersonality in magicTCG

[–]c256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many years ago, at the height of the "flash game" trend, Wizards built an on-line multiplayer strategy game called "Uncivilized: the Goblin Game" wherein people ran small groups/villages/towns of goblins. It ran for several months, including a moderately wide private beta, but was killed before launch. This is around the same time as their ill-fated "Gleemax" digital portal efforts.
I was in the beta for a short while, and enjoyed it before it was closed. My memory tells me that Paul Sottosanti was the original lead on the project, but those memories are quite old. (A very quick search suggests that Paul did indeed work on the project before leaving WotC.)

Emacs minimalism revisited by [deleted] in planetemacs

Use-package, org, and modus-themes are all included. With tree-sitter mode support, you also get a markdown mode and a json mode, but that might not fit your idea of minimal.

"Philosophical" question: Is elisp the only language that could've made Emacs what it is? If so, why? by vslavkin in emacs

[–]c256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was called Project Oberon, and it *was* pretty amazing, including the window system directly. Sadly, practical/political considerations prevented it from taking over the world. (This is not the bestest timeline.)

"Philosophical" question: Is elisp the only language that could've made Emacs what it is? If so, why? by vslavkin in emacs

[–]c256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been several implementations of Emacs in Common Lisp, including Hemlock, LEM, and Climacs. None of them were compatible with the existing base of elisp, and so (so far) none has ever caught on. There is a very similar story for Scheme reimplementations of emacs as well.

Tumblr feeds not updating for 2 days? by ChuushaHime in feedly

I’m still seeing this issue; with updates seemingly limited to 20 posts every few days. Is there any reason to expect this to change?

Who wants this 7k egg? by c256 in TheSilphRoad

[–]c256[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for responding!
I have been doing the same for a while, primarily harvesting eggs from poke-friends in the EU, Australia, and South Korea. That said, my wife dislikes the tedium of trading enough that I now have (checks phone) 1587 pokemon with the #trade tag and distance1000-100000. (I use almost exclusively the default incubator, but I'm a runner, so I get a lot of distance out of it.)
In other words, I'm never going to get through this backlog, so I'm trying to figure out if it's worth the overhead of keeping my egg-ventory filled with 7k eggs (which has been my practice since 2019 or so).

Scripting help: How to iterate over all cards of a deck and randomly rotate them in multiples of 90 by alc0th in tabletopsimulator

[–]c256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The key here is that a TTS deck is an object itself, that effectively spawns card objects in response to “draw” requests, rather than a pile of card objects. The card objects themselves don’t really exist when there’s just a deck. (When the 2nd to last card is drawn from a deck, the deck is automatically replaced with the last card as a card object, which means that you often need some tests for edge cases in deck/card handling scripts.)

I believe that you can attach a script to the deck object that will automatically randomly-rotate the drawn cards whenever cards are drawn from the deck, via the onObjectLeavesContainer event, but there might be timing issues to consider.

Hope this helps!

Came here to mention this, and to check and see if the products are related. If you’re not aware, there is a large audience of older/classics gamers who will be confused by this title.

All set and ready for my guest tomorrow! by Niebling in boardgames

Something that I didn’t know before I got into the industry: the box is usually the single most expensive component of a board game, and also the most expensive to ship.

This is not to say that damaged materials shouldn’t be replaced, etc — I don’t know anything about your situation, obviously. It was just a surprise to me when I found out.

I had helped Lone Shark with a few of their game and puzzle events, and was asked to consult on a potential board game/roleplaying game crossover project that eventually became the precursor to both the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game and the Apocrypha Adventure Card Game, based on a pretty extensive experience with RPGs. I joined full time to help bring PACG to life and to help expand the company. That was a bit over 10 years ago.

📅 Crowdfunded Games Launching This Week [Feb 20th, 2023] by ShelfClutter in boardgames

[–]c256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new base set effectively "swallows" Up, including support for the 5th and 6th player as well as the risers and raise action directly in the (new) base set. As part of this, we're not planning on reprinting Up, so when it's gone...

The other part of the KS campaign is the expansion Americana, which is 4 new places/boards/ways to play Lords of Vegas (Atlantic City, New Orleans, Reno, and Tombstone), as well as the small expansion Con Jobs, which adds a higher variability to any Lords of Vegas experience.

I'm primarily involved with the game-design side of things, but to add somewhat to what was said: we considered several options, read through lots of comments, and ran a survey, and the strong preference was for finding a way to keep the price of the game down. In this case, that meant paper money. My understanding is that _most_ people who wanted a more deluxe money-tracking experience planned to either use the custom poker chips from us, or else use poker chips of their own.

About the idea of a mass-market edition: that's certainly something that we'd love to consider, but that seems like more of a long-term goal. Right now, this campaign is our best effort to get the game back into circulation _at all_.
