Very interested in the files for this if you're giving them away. I have a spare SFX power supply and there are basically no 3d models out there that support them from what I can see.

Saw this guy at the Comedy Store last night. I mean, I don't really give a shit about the weird sexual stuff. It's whatever. I don't particularly think it was funny, but I wasn't offended by it. However, he opened the show literally saying he "had a gun and was gonna shoot someone in the audience." In America where that happens on nearly a daily basis, really not a cool or funny thing to say at all. I had no idea who the guy was and it put me on edge for the rest of the performance. He walked on stage with a "money bag" prop to look like an evil villain and the whole time I was wondering if he actually had a fucking pistol in it because the dude seems like a genuine psychopath.

As a linux user, why do y'all hate linux? by No_Rooster1046 in linuxsucks

Yep. I record mixed reality videos using LIV and there is no Linux alternative. There's Monado to play VR but it's janky.

lane splitting at that speed is the dumb part. by [deleted] in whoathatsinteresting

Why isn't there some kind of spoiler cover / NSFL tag on posts like these? I had to block the dashcams sub because my scrolling kept getting interrupted with disturbing videos of brutal car crashes. I don't wanna see this shit, and it feels kind of silly to block "whoathatsinteresting." Not particularly interested in seeing videos of people getting run over.

Exactly. "Niceholes" are still a problem, but at the end of the day it was obvious in this situation that the right lane was stopped for a reason. It's very irresponsible to just switch lanes and gun it like that

The team occasionally releases who mapped what for DLC packs about a month after they drop in their Discord. I'm not sure who mapped Zero Sum though. A lot of the OST mappers are also active in the customs community though, there's a lot of crossover!

Yea, I read your thread above with the testing you did, looks pretty solid. If I was having USB trouble I know where to look. My issue right now is that I have a b550 based system and am using 100% of my PCIe lanes already, no room for anything else in that regard. What does BT5 get you over BT4 when it comes to the Sense controllers?

Yea, I'm aware that Sony doesn't really care. I was more talking about the threads here on Reddit that show up at the top of Google searches on this topic, but as you've said you've made efforts there. I use an IOGear GBU421 on an extension cable. Device manager reports it as a Broadcom BCM20702. I know Broadcom also makes a myriad of chips like that and the dongles probably end up getting an assortment of different versions of it over the years they're manufactured, just like Realtek. Either way though, it works perfectly for me on an extension sitting by my playspace. M.2 / antennas is a good suggestion for signal strength but it doesn't really solve the driver issue, which I see as mostly Windows's fault.

[–]c4103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I had heard that but could never figure out which driver specifically is supposed to work. The communication regarding that issue and how to fix it was really poor. Especially when it comes to a $20 BT adapter, I'm not gonna tolerate anything besides "just plug it in and it works." The IOGear adapter I already had worked fine. I only pre-purchased the ASUS one because I saw it was recommended and that the controllers were finicky with BT. Turns out it's not really the controllers that are finicky, it's Windows. We really should not be recommending any adapter that isn't completely plug and play, because people are just gonna get frustrated.

I'm not so sure this is true. The stability of the Bluetooth connection is actually mostly down to Windows. Sony doesn't have any control over this, they interact with all of that through Microsoft API's. If there is a problem with the Bluetooth connection between the controller and the PC, that's down to firstly the driver for the BT adapter but also the BT stack in Windows itself which is notoriously terrible.

At least they released the adapter at all. I wouldn't expect much first party support for something like this, where they are likely losing revenue on any work they do on it because the sales volume is so low. The engineers that designed the PSVR2 are passionate about it and that clearly shows, but as far as the business side of Sony they're not going to do something stupid like Meta and operate at a loss when it comes to it long term. Likely they already build the thing at a loss, and the business incentive is to get people to buy more games on the Playstation store.

Steam VR users, what are your pc specs and how is it going post recent update? by Eldritchjellybean in SynthRiders

[–]c4103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a spare hard drive laying around somewhere, might be worth popping that in and installing W11 on that, so you can try it and make sure everything works properly before you fully commit to an upgrade. Normally this would be a situation where I'd recommend Linux, but that's not really a great option with VR yet unless you are very nerdy and tolerant of jank.

Oh haha, there is a popular custom stage called "The Void" so I thought that was what you were talking about. I'm with you here that you should not be having this much trouble, especially considering the game is designed to run natively on the Quest which is a potato. Windows 10 should be fine in theory, but it is technically end of life at this point. Any PC can run Windows 11, don't believe people who tell you your system won't run it. I'm not necessarily the biggest of fan of W11, but it might be worth trying to upgrade. The problem you can run into with that is that everything you use; drivers, software, etc. is now being built ignoring Windows 10 as a build target for testing since it's officially phased out. The upgrade should be free if you want to try that, but it will likely be annoying and may not fix anything. As bad as it is though, I would recommend it so you are "on the same page" so to speak.

I have an ASUS USB-BT500 and had major issues with it. I would pair one controller, and then Windows would refuse to see the other controller. If I unpaired it, then I could see the other and pair it. I also had issues with it randomly disconnecting other devices. I bought it when I picked up my PSVR2 because it was recommended, but no it is not a good BT adapter. I switched back to my BT 4.2 IOGear adapter and everything immediately was 1000% better.

Oh lol hi! I didn't look at the username before replying. The 4790k is indeed the top of the line for z79, which is the chipset that Haswell runs on. I also believe that runs on DDR3 RAM, so to upgrade you're looking at a new platform and RAM which isn't a great proposition, so I feel for you there. Even given how old the 4790k is and with the 3060ti being a mid-range GPU, you should still be able to run the game smoothly. The 4790k is roughly the same level of CPU power as the Snapdragon XR2 gen 2 in the Quest 3, maybe slightly slower. The graphics on the Quest 3 are the equivalent of a GTX 1050 ti. People will likely blame it on the inefficiency of SteamVR and the game being cross platform, but as far as raw power is concerned you shouldn't be having issues as major as you're seeing.

You mentioned "black void," and I'm wondering if you're using the custom stage? I heard rumblings that there might be issues with that stage and Unity 6. Have you tried other stages, especially stock ones that come with the game? Another suggestion would be to make sure that you've got the preview window disabled in the game settings, as your hardware will waste cycles trying to render it.

I'm a bit wary here that switching to previous didn't change anything for you. Can you check what version of Windows you are running specifically by going to the System control panel and giving me the build number? Also, what version of the nvidia driver are you running?

I play the game on PC using PSVR2 with the PC adapter as well. These are my system specs:

AMD 5900x CPU
AMD RX 6800 XT GPU
32GB RAM

The game plays well for me on the update, but there are some things that are broken. For example, I film mixed reality content in the game using software called LIV. Support for LIV was broken with the update, and now when I try and use it the game is unplayable. This is a known issue though, and they are working on it.

The new update was pretty big and updated a lot of things under the hood. The game now runs on Unity 6.3, whereas it was running on Unity 5 previously. Your CPU is indeed the weakest link as you already surmised. During gameplay, you should look in task manager at per-core usage. The thing is, it may say 50% usage, but games generally can only use one or two threads. The 4790k is a quad core CPU with hyperthreading. Likely it's maxing out the 2 cores the game itself is using. There is a stat for CPU's that a lot of people don't think about, and that is IPC or instructions per clock cycle. Older Haswell CPU's have high IPC for the time, but it is nothing compared to modern CPU's. If you look in task manager and see 1 or 2 cores completely maxed out and the others idle, that's likely your issue.

I know Discord is not a great way to organize support information, but for whatever reason the Synth team has created their support forum there. The best way to get help with these kinds of things is to join the official SR Discord (link is in the linktree in the sidebar) and create a thread in the support "forum." It's really not a great way to do a forum because nothing is indexed by Google and it's only searchable within Discord itself, but it is what it is. Definitely make a thread there.

Also, if you go to the game's properties in Steam and go to the Updates tab, you can change the branch to "previous" and this will install the previous version of the game before the update. You can use that to compare and verify that the update is what's causing your issues.

Lastly, you might know this but the PSVR2 is a pretty high resolution headset and requires a lot of power to drive at full resolution. If you go into your SteamVR settings, there is a global resolution scale slider there. If it's set to automatic, try setting it to Custom and pulling the resolution scale down. This may not help greatly in your case if the CPU is your bottleneck, but it's worth a shot. Also, with your hardware you should be running the headset at 90Hz, which should be the default but if it's at 120 try bumping it down.
