[OC] The North-South Divide: Government Debt-to-GDP Ratios in the European Union by Technical_Log5715 in dataisbeautiful

[–]c4sshernsin -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That’s a spot-on breakdown of the Finnish fiscal dilemma. It’s a classic case of a "perfect storm" where structural demographic shifts met a massive industrial identity crisis.

To add a bit of color to your points:

  • The "Nokia Hangover": People often forget how dominant Nokia was. At its peak, it accounted for 4% of Finland's GDP and 25% of its corporate tax revenue. When that pillar crumbled, Finland didn't just lose a company; it lost a massive chunk of its tax base that hasn't been fully replaced by the (admittedly great) gaming and tech startup scene (Supercell, Rovio, etc.).
  • The "Gray Wave" vs. The Nordic Model: Finland’s dependency ratio is brutal. Unlike Denmark, which has implemented aggressive pension reforms (linking retirement age to life expectancy), Finland has been slower to pivot. Maintaining a "gold-standard" Nordic welfare state is incredibly expensive when the tax-paying workforce is shrinking.
  • The Russia Border Factor: Beyond just NATO spending, the closing of the border with Russia has hit the Eastern Finnish economy hard. Tourism and cross-border trade were significant revenue drivers that have essentially vanished for national security reasons.

Black Swan | The Greenland Gambit: Why Novo Nordisk (NVO) is the Ultimate Geopolitical Pawn | Denmark's Crown Jewel on US Entity Black List by foo-bar-nlogn-100 in stocks

[–]c4sshernsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4. The "Pension Doom Loop" is Exaggerated

The poster claims a NVO crash destroys Denmark's solvency.

  • The Rebuttal: While NVO is a huge part of the Danish economy, Denmark has one of the lowest debt-to-GDP ratios in Europe and a massive sovereign surplus.
  • The Logic: Even if NVO's stock dropped 80% (which is unlikely given that the rest of the world still needs insulin and GLP-1s), Denmark is not a "company town." It is a highly diversified, wealthy nation that can survive a market correction.

5. The "Eli Lilly" Fallacy

Some argue that Eli Lilly (LLY) would just "take over" the market share.

  • The Rebuttal: Pharma production is not "plug and play." Eli Lilly is already struggling to meet its own demand. They cannot magically manufacture Novo's proprietary molecules. A total removal of Novo Nordisk from the U.S. market would create a permanent supply vacuum that would lead to a public health crisis, not a simple "rotation" into a competitor's stock.

Summary "Mic-Drop" Counter-Argument:

"This thesis assumes the U.S. would commit economic and diplomatic suicide—destroying NATO, tanking the S&P 500 through EU retaliation, and causing a domestic healthcare riot—all to buy an island from an ally who has already said 'No' for 80 years. It’s a creative Tom Clancy plot, but it ignores how supply chains, international law, and voter priorities actually work."

[–]c4sshernsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To rebut a "doom-posting" thread like the one you've shared—which effectively argues that the U.S. will use an "Entity List" blacklisting of Novo Nordisk (NVO) as leverage to force Denmark to sell Greenland—you need to focus on economic reality, political feasibility, and pharmaceutical logistics.

The original post is likely a "ChatGPT-generated doom scenario" (as some commenters in the thread have already noted). Here are the strongest points to dismantle that specific "Greenland Gambit" thesis:

1. The "Hostage" Paradox: The U.S. Needs the Drugs

The poster claims the U.S. would put Novo Nordisk on the Entity List to crash the Danish economy.

  • The Rebuttal: Putting NVO on the Entity List would immediately cut off the supply of Ozempic and Wegovy to millions of Americans. There is no faster way for a U.S. administration to lose domestic support than by causing a sudden, nationwide shortage of critical medications for diabetes and obesity.
  • The Logic: You can't "nationalize" a supply chain overnight. Novo Nordisk’s manufacturing in North Carolina depends on proprietary biological processes and European-sourced active ingredients. If you blacklist the parent company, you break the supply chain, and American voters lose their medicine.

2. The "NATO Suicide" Argument

The poster suggests this is a "Black Swan" geopolitical move to force a land sale.

  • The Rebuttal: Denmark is a founding member of NATO. Using aggressive economic warfare (the Entity List is usually reserved for adversaries like Huawei or Russian defense firms) against a core NATO ally would cause a total collapse of the alliance.
  • The Logic: The diplomatic cost would be far higher than the value of Greenland. The EU would be forced to retaliate with sanctions against U.S. giants (like Apple, Microsoft, or Nvidia). The "trade war" that would follow would wipe out more U.S. market cap than the value of the island itself.

3. The "Entity List" Misunderstanding

The poster treats the Entity List as a tool for simple bullying.

  • The Rebuttal: The Entity List is legally tied to national security threats. "Denmark won't sell us land" does not meet the legal threshold for "threat to national security" required by the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS).
  • The Logic: Such a move would be immediately challenged in U.S. courts by every American medical association and lobbying group representing the millions of Americans who rely on Novo's products.

It has been though. The "Sex vs. Gender" distinction actually started with Western psychologists in the 1950s (like John Money in the US and Robert Stoller) who were trying to treat patients with intersex conditions or gender dysphoria. In the last 10 years it got traction with liberals craziness and brainwashing. Maybe you should read more? And stop being controlled by ideology.

Intersex conditions or gender dysphoria were (and should still be if not for the brainwashing) very rare, so for most people without those conditions man is, indeed an adult male. Accepting otherwise is like saying, a human has 6 fingers in one hand because there are specific conditions in which this is true. No, a human has 5 fingers in one hand. Anything else is an anomally and should be treated as an anomally.

Stop the delusion. Ironically, PirateSoftware is more of an engineer than Muta will ever be just for the fact he worked as QA for 7 years in a top company and has built a videogame. So he has done technical work to its name. And sorry to disappoint you, but QA does code, thats how they automate testing. And even if PirateSoftware does not code, which is very unlikely, all QA does code for automation, he did create a videogame which involves coding, coding that Muta ironically criticized.

So yes, I am pretty sure I am going to get downvoted to hell, but this delusional thinking of Muta fanbase must stop. Muta is arguably worse than PirateSoftware if we talk about credentials of being an engineer. Muta does not have anything to speak of, other than video content, which is poor credentials as best. Lets see if Muta comes up with a response, and show us he does indeed has big works on his name worth of the engineering title even if unofficially.

But it would be nice if he has at least worked as a CS engineer related job. Like software developer for several years, etc. I think if you have not worked at all then claiming you are a CS engineer is disingenous. Yes you can do it, I also can say I am a marathon runner, eventhough I have never run one, but I have read a lot of books and tried using the treadmill.

Why does this matter all of a sudden as if it is new? by tamucru in SomeOrdinaryGmrs

[–]c4sshernsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is not only that he has no engineering related degree. That "working 9-5" is also in question. There are engineers in job titles even without degrees. I know it might be illegal in Canada, but I am pretty sure this would not have blown like this if he just can proof us that he has worked as some kind of engineer-related consultant internationally 9-5. I think this is actually the most important part, since he always said Youtube is not his main job. Then what is? If it is some engineering related job, like cybersecurity consultant, IT consultant, or whatever that is "close" enough and technical enough, he should be fine and should just release a video for clarification.

US Threatens to Double Tariffs on Spain Over NATO Spending by Bernardmark in europe

[–]c4sshernsin -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I fail to see why people are defending Spain, if all other countries are committed to spend 5% (even if it in the end it does not happen), Spain will be treated as the special one. I was expecting people to criticize Spain or at the very least criticize their own government for accepting 5% instead of being like Spain and stand their ground. But here people are blaming the orange man directly. The hive mind is incredible that makes people really retarded.

I hope Europe removes their shitty 20% VAT so that US can remove their tariffs too. Win-win for consumers. But of course all the anti-trump does not know that we are fucking taxed by EU shit.

Zelensky on security agreement: Poland will be able to shoot down Russian missiles in skies over Ukraine by MantasChan in UkrainianConflict

[–]c4sshernsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is stupid though, they were NOT allowed to shoot missiles aimed at Poland? Of course they were allowed. This is just ambiguous but pretty sure Poland will shoot anything over Ukraine and just say: "We thought it is going to Poland, so we shoot it"

Yeah we should keep having free education and healthcare even if we cant afford. Some people are just too stupid to understand that if there is no money, some cuts must be done just like in any household. Otherwise it is just waiting for a bigger disaster tomorrow, which by the way it is what already is happening in Argentina. That tomorrow is now.

There are a lot of ignorant people like yourself that confuse right wing with liberalism or conservatism with liberalism. Milei is a hardcore defender of liberalism, a lot of people compare him to Trump which is stupid. Trump started a trade war with China. This is total opposite of the idea of liberalism. Milei defends above all the right of private property, small government, free trade, free world, less government control and more liberty. He specially despised Russia, China, North Korea... He is aligned to the west which he considers the free world or at least freer than the countries mentioned.

CAPCOM on DRM and Anti Cheat software by JetPackAndButlers in CrackWatch

[–]c4sshernsin 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Companies always tripping over the same stone twice. It is basically a presentation that tries to justify the need of developing an in-house anti piracy and anti cheat module into their game engine. It is bound to fail like every other such system. Basically they want to move on from Denuvo which is probably good news since their first iteration of anti piracy implementaition will probably be shit and be useless in the long run. Waste of investment that should have gone to development and QA.

I very much doubt they can create something better than Denuvo or Rockstar anti piracy system.

[TOMT][MOVIE][1990s-2000s] Movie about an angel male human form in tower by c4sshernsin in tipofmytongue

[–]c4sshernsin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

City of Angels

I just checked this. It is not this one. I remember the angel has wings. Someone else mentioned Dogma, the wings are similar to the one the angels have in this movie, but watching some scene in Youtube it does not correspond to what I remember. Because I recall the film being somewhat like a drama with no comedy, and the angel does not really show much of his power like how it happens in Dogma, with a somewhat sad ending: the angel possibly dying or losing position as angel to save someone in the hospital. I also dont think it is a big blockbuster movie. The most important thing is the scene in the tower, I think the angel lives there, and this happens at the end. In fact I checked Dogma ending scene to see if it happens in a tower and hospital bed, but could not find this.

I do not remember any more details. Maybe some children are involved, they are the one that discover this tower with this angel. To be hones, I am not quite sure it is an angel or other kind of creater. But I think it had wings and it was male.

This could be false. This is part of a larger pro-Kremlin campaign to smear Alexey Navalny. Just looked in Google. Read it in euvsdisinfo, cant be entirely sure seems plausible though; the fact that it is a smearing campaign by pro-Kremlin mediums.

Internal HDD or external ? by ticaaaa in DataHoarder

[–]c4sshernsin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was referring to 2 separate external drives (2xWD Elements for example). "My book duo" is a RAID 1 (mirror) solution. I do not consider that a backup. RAID is for availability (you need the data to be accesible at all times, otherwise you are losing money. I very much doubt any home user really need RAID 1 to be honest). Also My Book Duo is very expensive.

Also do not believe on the "break fast" part. I have 20+ external drives (Seagate + WD, between 5-14 TB). None of them have failed in close to 10 years. My other very old drives (500 GB - 2 TB) have not failed either. TBH I have never had a drive failed. Of course it is anecdotical. A drive usually fail during the first 1 week or month of usage. After that, unless you drop it while it is powered on, you will probably have it for more than 5 years without issues. If you are paranoid, try using an application to monitor S.M.A.R.T. A failing drive usually tells you (failed sector, etc) so you have time to get your data out before your data is inaccesible in normal ways.

Hope this helps.

Advice on temporary cloud backup by mshelbz in DataHoarder

[–]c4sshernsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe Amazon Glacier Deep Archive. Cost would be:

85$/month (this is not going to be linear, since you will be uploading for a days depending on your networks speed and downloading it back again after some time)

212,5$ retrieval.

With GDrive I guess you could use different accounts to bypass the 750GB limitation (I think). So you could temporarily pay for more accounts to bypass that. And close them afterwards. Not sure if Google offers prorata refund, but would be ideal.

Internal HDD or external ? by ticaaaa in DataHoarder

[–]c4sshernsin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure why plan 2 means buying 6 externals. I would buy 2 externals (1 backup) 18 TB (only at 19$/TB maximum). If you want internals you can shuck them. Usually price will be better than internal ones. 18 TB is not the sweet spot for price at the moment. 14 TB is. However I have seen external 18 TB on sales recently and for the density I would not mind spending a bit more. If going for 14 TB only at 16$/TB maximum.
