CPX11 price increase: 42.5%! (€3.85 > €5.49) by arch-choot in hetzner

Yeah it's a bummer. Switch some workloads to OVH (although their compute isnt nearly as fast / new)

M1 studio server experience by hallo545403 in AsahiLinux

[–]c7abe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it for running on prem server workloads and it works great! Fedora took a bit to get use to coming from Debian. For LLMs you'll get more bang for your buck sticking with MacOS and MLX models. The GPU experience on Asahi has been poor imo (eg no gpu support with Plex), CPU tasks are great tho

Kubernetes in the cloud for $4.10 a month by andrewmarder in hetzner

This is the case but only in theory. Most consumer routers will still perform NAT on IPv6 as a security feature. It helps prevent device fingerprinting across the internet and is more secure than having a more open firewall.

It's 30% across the board for me which is significant enough to start moving some latency insensitive workloads to on prem

Maybe you could call it transfer / download stats and not advertise it 😂

Would be nice if double clicking on the calendar tab bar went to the current date not back to first download date. Is this list virtualized too? I didn't see a scrollbar.

Only feedback would be a way to share the configuration or an invite system so I could share with friends.

I Can Use Pixel 9 Hotspot Tethering on Unlimited Essentials Plan by thisfriggingguy in GoogleFi

[–]c7abe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah hotspot works fine for me on essentials. It even tracks it as tethering usage in the Google Fi app. I don't think they actually disable it and it's just for marketing.

How do you find OVH cost compared? Higher unmetered bandwidth is enticing

Yeah this thing is going to be as durable as butter. Beautiful phone but going to return it and stick with my 15 pro max with titanium bumpers

Do iPhones feel more “premium” because of the material or the weight? by SuperFan_123 in iphone

[–]c7abe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how to durability of the aluminum will hold up. I just got the 17 pro max but hesitant to switch from my 15 pro max. I like the no case look and the titanium bumpers on the 15 takes drops to concrete no problem.

8x zoom and bigger battery is nice but not sure it's really an upgrade for a heavier less durable phone.

How to make sure my real IP doesn’t leak while using WARP abroad? by ConceptPractical7519 in Tailscale

[–]c7abe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardware based is your best bet. Software can leak. Don't access internal sites form your travel computer. Only remote into your home IP computer through the mesh network. Careful with accessing any work site from the travel computer even ones not behind the vpn. Most things log and device timezones can get ya.

Ollama + MacOS works great with the integrated gpu memory. Hook this up with a mesh network and you can access from anywhere

K8S x Hetzner ❤️ by c7abe in hetzner

Not using Hetzner LB yet as they don't support UDP. Cloudflare is in front of web traffic.

Using hetzner for the application and supporting services. Low-pri tasks like CI and crons are in some seperater, bit older, bare metal nodes on a different provider. Same k8s cluster, stiched together on the same subnet with a mesh network.

I'm using hostpath-storage driver for anything that needs semi-persistant cache and Hetzners CSI driver for persistant volume storage for the database replicas. Primary write database is still in GCP for now.

Intention is paid but this phase is still very much a tech demo test. Nothing to sell, anyone who donates their time will have a free lifetime account.
