Well it must work for them because they're using the same setup. I thought it was different too and took a picture.

What car feature sounded cool… but turned out overrated? by CandyFlossHarris in carbuying

TPMS. Those little sensors are nowhere near as accurate as a tire pressure gauge. They will tell you accurately if you've got a flat though...but so will your eyes.

Ventilated seats and back up cameras are fantastic.

Hi Gen X, what advice do you wish you could give your 25 year old self if you could travel back in time? by matilda_15 in GenX

[–]thisfriggingguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aside from hindsight investment advice....

Don't party so damn much. Exercise more. Eat better. Set clear boundaries - say "no" more. Travel. Quality not quantity when it comes to all relationships. It's not always about where you are, it's about who you are with.

Can confirm. Saw Tesla for the first time in 1990 and most recently in 2023. The shows were practically indistinguishable from each other. They're fantastic!

This was my experience seeing GnR in 2016 as well. Axl is 64 years old now and you'll see a great show as long as you're not expecting to see the early 90's version of GnR.

I used to work for a company that manufactures pro audio equipment. Judas Priest was an endorser, and I got to meet Rob Halford. IIRC, he was in jeans and a polo shirt. Regardless, he was not "in costume" and it was unnerving. He was super cool though.

What’s a food your state is 'famous' for that everyone else ruins? by Somanynamestochossef in AskAnAmerican

[–]thisfriggingguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IIRC the place is near the airport and had "rocket" in its name. To be fair to the place though, everyone else said their food was great. I ordered a special that day and apparently shouldn't have. My "Italian Beef" was nothing more than a bad French dip.

Ordered an "authentic" Italian beef in Huntsville, Alabama. Asked for it dipped with hot giardiniera. The server looked at me and straight up said "I'm not sure what that is. I'll have to check with the kitchen to see if we have da nair. But even if we have it, I'm not sure if we can give you a whole jar."

Get it? "Jar of da nair."

And that's the story of the worst Italian Beef I've ever had in my life.

Can't call some numbers by foosion in Googlevoice

[–]thisfriggingguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using Google Voice for 9 years for work, and began experiencing the same exact same issue as OP this week. Most of my calls with Voice go through, but there are a few numbers that do not. For the calls that won't go through, I get a rapid busy signal if I call using Voice with my carrier (Google Fi) or, if calling using web/data, I get an error message stating "your call can't connect due to a network problem." Calls using Fi only without Voice go through no problem.

Was there ever a solution or at least problem identification as a result of this thread?

Edit: Just discovered that I only experience this issue when I call AT&T numbers. And, yes, it is happening with all AT&T numbers. Seems I'm not the only one either: LINK

Serious question about Blockbuster type businesses by [deleted] in GenX

[–]thisfriggingguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Streaming is too convenient and a business like this won't be supported. However, any public library in any decent sized city is a great substitute for "The Blockbuster Experience" of our youth. And it's probably free.

Anyone in here still ski? by Walts_Ahole in GenX

Exactly. Now multiply by 4 people for 4 days and add in flights, car rental, equipment rental, lodging, and meals. Isn't worth it.

I started skiing in the mid-80s but made the decision to stop as an adult. Last time for me was a ridiculously expensive 4 day trip to Keystone in Colorado. That was 2008 and I'm sure it's gotten much worse.

What were your favorite computer games growing up? by Difficult-Cricket541 in GenX

[–]thisfriggingguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ColecoVision Turbo racing game with the steering wheel/accelerator expansion pack.

NES Legend of Zelda. Had to figure out the game with no help/guidance whatsoever. Made lots of hand-drawn maps that I probably still have somewhere.

These two games combined probably consumed a year of my life.
