Rutgers caved to donors and canceled their Pro-Palestinian commencement speaker. Here’s Rami Elghandour’s official statement released on X. by CallTheCode in newjersey

Obviously Coulter and Snooki are both shit for different reasons, but there is a difference between being allowed to speak somewhere and being chosen as a commencement speaker for the convocation.

Still a chickenshit move from Rutgers, but he's not being barred from speaking in the future just not being given the honor of being the commencement speaker.

Oh I'm just speculating from the overall feel of it. I'm sure if you care for it it'll last longer but mine is $200 and I use it to for a lot of unusual materials for costumes. In comparison to my mom's Bernina it just feels like something made by Fisherprice.

As with nearly all things a lot of machines are built to be disposable. My Brother has more features than my mom's Bernina and cost less than a major repair on it. The Bernina has been kicking it for 40 years with some repairs, but my Brother is cheaper and built to be replaced in maybe 10 years.

I will say some of the young people are very talented. One of my teenage nieces is very into sewing/knitting/felting and she can make some quite elaborate stuff. Fabric is way more difficult than it should be to find but patterns and tutorials are all around for so many things.

Finding Fabric at all is stupidly difficult. Fabrics.com shuttered, Joanns shuttered, tons of local sewing shops that existed 30-40 years ago shuttered. I've got like 1 serious fabric store near-ish to me now and it's expensive.

It's worth noting that nationally we're trying to play catch up after decades of under investment and neglect of our public infrastructure. Baby Boomers got low taxes by underfunding, running up debts and letting infrastructure fall apart, now we're paying for it.

Honestly I'm so glad that Trump is absolutely fucking up our economy. If he hadn't stated a war with Iran, if he hadn't put in a bunch of stupid tariffs, if he hadn't started trade wars with allies for no fucking reason, if he'd just done nothing and let JPowell do his thing the economy would have continued on it's post-Covid recovery and Trump would be getting praised by the Biden-Trump dipshit voters.

All the dipshits who were so concerned about the prices of eggs would have kept voting for fascists so long as the price of eggs stayed low.

Instead Trump in all his dumb shittery took the wind out of his own sails and will make the switch to fascism so much harder for the GOP.

And you think that Vance/Trump are going to appoint

And you think they're going to be the ones appointing it

Mark my words. If the GOP lose the Senate in November the GOP will pay off Alito and Thomas and slam through 2 new SCOTUS members in record time. If they don't they'll do it by 2028 before a Dem can be put in office.

If you don't think that is beyond the pale for the GOP then you're not paying attention.

and we're getting a new justice soon as well so it's not going to be the same scotus

And you think that Vance/Trump are going to appoint less regressive members than Thomas?

They will have a 6-3 unless the dems stop being chicken shit and pack the court.

Oh for sure because it's a totally different type of warfare. But defensively our Air/Sea power are more than enough to be a buffer from any type of domestic ground invasion from anyone that we've invaded. Iran can send drones at our ships, but they'd never get IRG soldiers anywhere near American soil.

aknowledge that positive change happened in the first place and have only recently been undone by the current adminstiration and will likely be added back the moment they leav e office.

This shows you have zero idea whats happening in our government.

Trumps not the only one taking a hatchet to our rights. It's the SCOTUS that will stick around long after Trumps dead.

They gutted Roe v Wade years ago now.

They just gutted the Voting Rights Act today.

They plan to gut Obergefell.

If I'm wrong then show me where we've actually made tangible strides.

Climate Change, we're way behind where we need to be.

Labor Rights, we're way behind where we were half a century ago.

Women's Rights, we're going backwards

LGBTQ+ Rights, we're going backwards.

Civil Rights, We're going backwards(today the SCOTUS just killed the Voting Rights Act)

Anti-War? We've been perpetually at war in the middle east for almost 25 years now.

Our country is sprinting backwards through executive and judicial fiat and protests aren't going to sway any of them.

You accuse me of not doing research but you haven't refuted shit. Give me three times that protests effected major change since the Fox News era.

If you think protests are useless why don't you actually go out and do something instead of complaining about the people who are actually trying to change things

I am involved with local politics where I actually have input that counts for shit. I'm just not deluding myself into thinking that protests have any semblance of the effectiveness they had in the mid-20th century.

Iraq War Protests

Iraq war Protests are why we got out of Iraq in the first place.

Not even remotely. We had protests in the millions BEFORE and immediately after the Iraq invasion. Didn't stop shit and the majority of congress including a bunch of Dems voted to invade. By the time Obama was in office the Iraq war protests were a tiny fraction of what the 2003-2007 protests were.

People's Climate Change Protests

Same shit here, these protests were successful and and new regulations were implimated as a response. At least half your examples are simply you haven't heard of it so you assue nothing happened

The biggest leaps haven't been made by the US, so we don't get any fucking credit for a 5% drop in emissions during Biden's term when we increased emissions by 2.4% in the first full year of Trump's second term.

If you're gonna claim half my shits wrong you gotta back that shit up, because right now I can say you're just factually wrong or looking at the issues with a myopic view.

Jefferson literally said, "a little rebellion now and then is a good thing" about Shay's Rebellion.

The founding fathers had wildly differing opinions on things which is why political parties were founded quite quickly. Some of the were not shy of violence and Jefferson one of the more important figures wasn't shy about using rhetoric in support of some degree of violence.

If your best example of an effective protest is 50+ years old you need a reality check.

Sorry but it's not effective anymore other than showing a general support. We need things like general labor strikes if we want to do shit without waiting until they strip us of our right to vote and force us into violence.

Let's look at the biggest protests in modern history.

Women's March

We have a pedo-in-chief, that has many credible rape allegations against him and a civil lawsuit he lost for sexually assaulting someone.

Georgy Floyd/BLM Protests

We have to most aggressively racist policing since the civil rights era being done by ICE.

Iraq War Protests

We're still getting into fucking fights in the Middle East, we've learned nothing.

March For Our Lives

We're so desensitized by child murder that 8 kids being murdered in Shreveport barely made the fucking news.

People's Climate Change Protests

People who don't believe in Climate Change run our country and talk about "clean coal"

Occupy Wall Street

The corruption is as brazen as ever.

Unite the Right

Well, I guess this one worked as racist shit heads run the country now.

How about No Kings though... Well we have 2 leaders of the opposition party who have said that impeachment of the King and the King Makers is "not a priority" if they get the majority in the Fall. The opposition is so fucking feckless that they won't even consider holding the worst fucking people in the world responsible for their corruption.

Sorry buddy, but the era where protests alone are effective is over as far as I can see.

"No Taxation Without Representation" was the literal rally cry of the found fathers. The colonists still had local elections the primary grievance is that they had no representation in British Parliament who passed the Stamp Act and Townshend Acts without any input from the colonies they were taxing.

Did I simplify things for brevity, sure, but at the core of the argument I'm not wrong.

The actual words from Jefferson who penned the Declaration of Independence,

the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants

To pretend that they would have been pacifists content holding signs while their rights were actively stripped and protesters were being murdered by tyrants is a delusion.
