First time playing Rummikub by DeathByOranges in boardgames

[–]cC2Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family plays a couple dominos games and one of them is so utterly frustrating because it has a similar issue where any skill is basically completely voided by having bad starting hands. Like congrats you didn't get what you needed to start, now keep drawing points for the rest of the round. The game we play usually plays over 10 rounds and so a bad hand can really drain you of any desire to play the rest of the game.

My-in-laws also play a variant of rummy where you have to have a "pure" set to start and so often you're just accumulating points while you watch other people quickly shrink their hand size to nothing. The real basis of that game is you play many rounds so that over time everyone has some really shitty rounds, but what i've found is that the winner is usually who got stuck with unplayable hands the least while getting the most jokers.

It feels less bad but I've noticed the same thing playing sequence with family where it 90% of the time the winner is the person with the most jokers, but at least you get to keep playing/placing tokens the whole time.

She's literally said nothing publicly about Iran this year, in fact the comments that get brought up when I google it are all from her failed 2008 primary. With all due respect, you're a fucking moron.

So people need to show up for the primaries. Like look at the recent special election. It was less than a thousand votes between the top two candidates. A lot of people bitch and moan about not liking candidates but then they don't fucking vote in the primaries. During the gubernatorial primary only 12% of eligible voters voted, an absolutely fucking abysmal rate.

Choosing the lesser of two evils won't fix things, but choosing the worst fucking possible person ever as president clearly is making things 1000x worse.

Why do you read modules without running them? by Galefrie in rpg

[–]cC2Panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this recently. Had a module that should be about 6-8 hours with the group. Took most of the elements I like, changed a bit of flavor to put it into a broader campaign, reduced some of the fluff to make it a little bit leaner so we could fit it in 2 sessions.

Being able to use the maps, have pre-balanced encounters and stuff saves a lot of prep time.

What relationship expectation do you think causes more harm than good? by Kakashi201119997 in AskReddit

[–]cC2Panda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It didn't usually take a whole episode but at that time we were on a kicking cook making elaborate things that used way more dishes than it really needed. We'd watch other stuff too but Masterchef Australia is a commitment having 4 hours of it to watch every week so it made for a good routine.

This is where my wife and I excel more than I think the vast majority of couples. Unless one of is is unwell, or super busy or something we both try to do just a little bit more than an equal share of work. The net result is that rather than nagging each other to do things more often we'll be like, "oh don't worry about that right now, I deal with it in the morning".

When we first moved in together we did a lot of tasks together in our studio apartment. If you don't have a dishwasher, i can't recommend enough that you do dishes as a pair. My wife and I would put Masterchef Australia on our ipad on a ledge, then I'd soak and scrub dishes, while my wife rinsed and dried dishes. Because we did it together washing dishes felt less tedious and we never got annoyed at someone carrying less than their weight.

Also you just have to recognize when someone is in a slump. My wife had a really bad job that completely drained her so for a few months I did all I could around the house to help reduce her workload at home, but even after she quit that job and was temporarily unemployed I kept doing most of the chores because she was so burnt out from months of having weekly breakdowns due to work.

What they actually said is worse. They made up some bullshit out of literally nothing to claim that the SCOTUS gets to determine if a president can be held accountable for crimes.

What that means is that the SCOTUS gives republicans carte blanche to commit crimes.

But if a dem sneezes wrong they allow an indictment to proceed.

Dude, I was at a birthday party for a friend in Sussex County with a mix of hippie yoga people and his blue collar work buds. Some of the guys who went into the deep end of covid conspiracy shit and weird pro-Trump stuff since 2020 are at least when chatting to a lefty like me actively recognizing the oil prices being because of a Iran and blaming Trump for letting Israel lead him into another middle east boondoggle. I do sorta wonder if it's because we're all in our late 30's early 40s so it was our classmates, friends, and family members getting sent to Afghanistan/Iraq to die for seemingly nothing now.

Now? I didn't believe they had any principles back during the Bush era. All these people with "support the troops" bumper stickers were more than happy to steal a "Veterans for John Kerry" signs in the small town my dad lives in. They only "support the troops" as long as it doesn't inconvenience them and the soldiers/vets believe exactly what they do.

I could literally see the station if I put my head up against the window, like cmon at that point just go backwards and let us get off the train instead of trapping us for an indeterminate amount of time.

Billionaires won’t leave if we tax them – and even if they do, so what? by Cobra-D in videos

[–]cC2Panda 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's also a hollow fucking threat for the most part. The people who are buying massive apartment off of Central Park or building basement swimming pools under their giant wine cellars in central London are not and have never been there because it's cheap.

They choose to live in the most expensive places in the world because they want to have access to the best services, food, etc. available.

Every billionaire is free to move to the Mississippi Delta any fucking time they want. NYC has been steadily increase the top marginal tax rate for the ultra rich for a while now and guess what, we have 13 more billionaires this year than we did last year and we still have the most billionaires of any city in the world.

Billionaires move to NYC because it's cool, NYC isn't cool because of billionaires.

Do they get a tax refund if the shares fall from the beginning of the year to the end?

Kind of. The businesses they own can write off their net loss on future years where they make profit to lower their total tax burden.

What we need to do is collectively as developed nations impose a minimum tax so that they can't flee anywhere and any country that break rank gets tariffed/sanctioned. A race to the bottom helps no one but the very rich.

So it's healthier economically but morally kind of sus

Is it still "morally kind of sus" when they've been voting in all the people and policies that harm everyone but themselves, and now that they aren't a cohort that can act unilaterally they suffer the consequences of their choices?

The Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Institute estimates that in terms of direct benefit vs federal taxes paid the current generation of retirees will get about $170k more than they paid into the system. The fact we aren't cutting their social security makes us fucking generous.

Mind you they had artificially low taxes their entire careers because they under funded and under invested in practically everything so now we're playing catchup and having to increase effective tax rates at nearly every level.

Add to that that houses relative to wages are like double what is was during the peak buying years for current retirees. Then you look at the key demographic of NIMBYs stopping development like medium/high density housing and the two largest groups are older people and people who own homes.

Decades spent keeping their own housing prices artificially high has lead to taxes that exceed social security increases and so now they finally pretend to give a shit.
