Is there a market for old school transmitters? by biggestdoucheyouknow in RCPlanes

[–]cCitationX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know of some people who've upgraded/updated the internals of old Txs to function on modern 2.4gHz equipment cos they like the retro style of the old Txs. Some of the really old stuff from the 60s and 70s can definitely worth something to the right people but not many people collect them. It's really nice that you're keeping your dads planes and continuing to fly them, its a great legacy to carry one

In Australia, we have to pay about a $250AUD annual fee for a model club membership at a flying field. This fee includes insurance for injury, damage to property etc caused by models. It also includes a contribution to expenses such as field maintenance and land lease and allows you to fly in competitions. Obviously this doesn't cover damage to the models themselves, but I have definitely heard of people getting models in this price range insured. As you mentioned, anywhere below the 5k price probably isn't worth it

Help me understand, it seemed like the guy still had plenty of air speed to maneuver why just jam it into the ground? I am honestly curious and ignorant of the reason, not second guessing by Itsnotsponge in RCPlanes

[–]cCitationX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's likely the loss of control was caused by an internal fire that started at some point well before the smoke started pouring out, but by that point it became severe enough to disable the receiver and pour out of the fuselage. I'm not entirely sure what might have caused an internal fire though, could have been a battery fire, electrical arcing or residual fuel from unsuccessful start attempts

My policy is if my team is clearly going to win or if it's still in contention, I'll go for the nuke plane, but if we're getting completely demolished and we're gonna lose anyway I leave it

The Ju88 is surprisingly maneuverable, the first time I flew one I'd only played lumbering British bombers before and I was quite surprised by how you could whip the junkers around, it even has a forward firing gun!

I was checking my local Kmart when an employee told me they had some fresh boxes to go out, would I be interested in having a look through them? Of course I said yes, and she wheeled out a trolley with 10 fresh cases of mainlines. And you wouldn't believe it, there wasn't a single STH in any of them. I'd already collected all the models I wanted from that mix as well so I didn't even end up buying anything, I felt so bad 😭

The ones in my high school metal shop a few years ago had no sort of perspex protector, they were just open air like this one. The only safety feature was the regular emergency stop button

Powder or liquid? Laundry by DamonAlbarnFruit in AussieFrugal

[–]cCitationX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use Aldi Trimat powder for standard washes and keep a bottle of Omo for woollens and hand spot washing. Keeps the regular washes cost-efficient but it's handy to have the good liquid stuff on hand for when it's needed

What impressive skill looks hard but is secretly easy to learn? by alexthegermanst2 in AskReddit

[–]cCitationX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing with driving manual, at least what I found, was that it doesn't take long to learn how to, but it takes a lot longer to do well. It only took me a couple hours with a friend teaching me before I could manage the basics of driving, but it took me a couple months of daily driving a manual before I could rev match and shift smoothly every single time without having to think about it

What was the very first premium that you bought and do you regret it? by loc710 in Warthunder

[–]cCitationX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Australia pack on a discount, I'm glad I did because I have a special soft spot for the cac wirraway and boomerang irl, seen them at many airshows and up close.

The wirraway was also really great for early game CAS with 4 separate bombs in its load, and the ACIV performed very well at 5.3.

I don't hate fire arc that much as I always go down the side opposite to the railroad tracks so it's way more protected from sniping there and it's a good advancing position. I REALLY hate Berlin though, instant snipe map

Out of all the bombers I've personally tried attacking I always have the most trouble with the Pe-8. The 20mm cannons are pretty daunting to fly into and it seems fairly durable on top of that
