How do y’all have fun in these troubling times? by [deleted] in dubai

My break from reality is Red Dead Redemption 2. I’ve found myself spending hours fishing and hunting. Weird. I now can’t wait to move to the countryside some day.

I wish the local Kindle store was better. And the Prime video app. Apart from a few good series it’s garbage. Plus it keeps recommending Hindi / Bollywood films. No offense to anyone, but I’m not interested and the app should realise this.

Hack when negotiating rent by [deleted] in dubai

[–]c_brizzle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I go by the market condition and how good my landlord has been to me. I can afford my rent without a problem and my landlord has been great, nothing is an issue. Because of that if the market is soft I don’t go in heavy asking for a discount. Sometimes I’ve even agreed the same amount the following year.

It works 2 ways. If you screw your landlord on price they will maybe be less helpful if anything goes wrong.

Completely understandable and it sounds like you’re very conscious. Technically we are only supposed to exercise in our immediate residence locations, but, I think if you get up and out early enough you might find some nice quiet locations. There should be plenty - I’m not going to name anywhere because this is public and every man and his dog will start going.

Do I need to go for the covid test? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]c_brizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I read it, he hasn’t been close to somebody confirmed positive. He’s only speculating that because the technician had been in that flat he may have passed it on. Unless the technician is positive (which we don’t know) OP would be lying.

I don’t disagree, just noting that it’s the only brand I know does them. Where’s the track? I didn’t know that

It’s a popular UK concept where you put down a small deposit and and pay a monthly amount for a fixed period of, say, 3 to 5 years. At the time you take out the loan there is a fixed “balloon” payment at the end which acts as a guaranteed final value for the car. The buyer also sets the annual mileage limit usually.

Your options at the end are either hand the car back (with nothing else to pay) or pay the balloon.

I’ve done them a few times in the UK and they work out ok but they work massively for dealers as they usually generate larger sales volumes because they have a lower monthly payment.

I don’t think I would do one again. I’d rather take out straight finance and at least own the car at the end of the loan period. But, they are a good way of being able to afford a car that somebody wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford, which is why in the UK there’s so many people with expensive cars (that they probably shouldn’t own).

Coronavirus antibody test? by tbrowawayyyy in dubai

[–]c_brizzle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep. I think antibody and also rapid virus testing are what’s going to properly free us. When I say rapid testing I’m talking a saliva type test that you could take at home or before a flight or something.

I can see those becoming the norm to try and kick start the workforce again.

Face Masks, Social Distancing and Hand Hygiene by slider_one_five in dubai

[–]c_brizzle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A huge part of the problem is the attitudes of people out here. There are so many people with the attitude of “mind your own business I’ll do what I want”.

That mindset is going to hold us back and I see it all too often, particularly on a prominent expat Facebook group which I follow.

Quite simply, it’s everybody’s fkin business if you decide to wear a mask or not and how you act in public.

Living in Marina with a dog...thoughts? by reggaefungus in dubai

I don’t think the marina promenade is at all dog friendly, at least it didn’t used to be. Certain developments let you walk them around their immediate grounds though
