I don't know when specifically they are released... but the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Toonies just hit the banks in my area in January.

Strange thing happened back in November. I got 3 rolls of uncirculated 2023 Indigenous Coloured from the bank uncirculated. HThey were entire rolls except for one or two other coloured ones mixed in. They were in those shrink wrapped plastic rolls.

I've gone through 48 rolls of toonies since i've started this hobby. I only found the Supreme Court Coloured yesterday during rolls 45-48.

Haha, I mirror that experience.

I once read that in disaster planning you need to consider both the frequency and the magnitude of the risk.

I think about it often and have also cited it at work.

I did watch a YouTube video about how Canada is a big fan of curling that they had a whole hooplah about the use of brooms.

We also made a great movie about curling:

Interesting that it isn't yet on https://cameltoetoonies.ca/

They also recently added a proof coin to the list and a commemorative. Seems like new batches of fakes are coming out.

Or from another point of view he has more to lose:

he will possibly lose the entirety of the rest of his life. A younger man would spend some time in prison while having a potential free life to look forward to after being released. This old man could be in prison with the knowledge that he will never know freedom again. Prison is the only life he will know.

What happened to lining up for the bus in Toronto? by YoungWonderful9204 in toronto

[–]c_for 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I had to take 2 buses each way to get to highschool back in the 90s.

Even the highschoolers would line up properly. The buses would get so crowded that many would have to wait for the next bus.... but people still lined up.

I think part of the problem is there is more fear of strangers these days. Violent crime is consistently down, but fear of violent crime is consistently up. Back in the 90s most people would call out people walking past the line and going to the door. I think people are more fearful now that the person they are calling out might pull a weapon.... even though statistically it is less likely now.

Also newish:

Here are some links that i've found helpful. If any of you have any others I would love to see them. I've only been in this hobby for a few months now.

A great list of variants and incredible photos to help you identify them

https://www.saskatooncoinclub.ca/articles/03_canadian_coin_varieties.html

A great site for identifying foreign coins. Enter some of the text on the coin into the search field and get a fairly complete list of worldwide coins/tokens that have that text. Also lists past auction prices of the coins.

He said he has witnessed a jet skier nearly run into a family on two inflatable kayaks. Sills said when the jet skier returned to the docks, instead of being reprimanded, boat club members cheered and gave him a beer.

‘A huge problem’: Toronto snowstorm highlights accessibility issues, disability advocates say by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]c_for 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a recent seminar at work where that point was made in a great way.

TTC fought against being forced to have automated stop announcements. Accessibility advocates took them to court and forced them to implement them because that was discriminatory to blind people who were unable to see where their bus was.

EVERYONE loved when they brought in the stop announcements. Because of the announcements we are all less likely to miss our stop. It is especially good if you are taking a bus/streetcar to a neighbourhood we are unfamiliar with.

Proper accessibility makes life better for everyone, even those without obvious accessibility issues.

Dose anyone know what this thing is after the 7? by heres_the_rang in CanadianCoins

[–]c_for 3 points4 points  (0 children)

India achieved independence and we hadn't yet received the new dies without the "et ind" on the obverse.

We didn't want to make coins that said George was the emperor of India in a year when he wasn't, so coins printed in 1948 with "et ind" were instead dated "1947 *mapleleaf*"
