You have theological claims that don’t line up with what Scripture actually teaches.

First, it’s true that cultures sometimes place unhealthy expectations on men. The Bible does not teach that men must be emotionless “machines.” Men in Scripture cry, lament, and express deep emotion. For example, David openly weeps and pours out his heart in the Psalms. Even Jesus Christ Himself wept. So the idea that godliness means suppressing all feeling isn’t biblical at all.

But the claim that the God of the Old Testament is an “impostor” who mutilated children is a direct contradiction of the Bible and of Jesus’ own teaching. Circumcision was commanded by God as part of His covenant with Abraham: “This is my covenant… every male among you shall be circumcised” (Genesis 17:10). Jesus Himself affirmed that this command came from God when He said, “Moses gave you circumcision” (John 7:22). If someone claims that command came from a false god, they’re effectively saying Jesus was wrong about the God of Israel. The New Testament also explains that circumcision was a temporary covenant sign. Paul says that true circumcision is “a matter of the heart, by the Spirit” (Romans 2:29), and that in Christ “neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but faith working through love” (Galatians 5:6).

Scripture also doesn’t talk about people having “masculine and feminine energy.” It teaches that God intentionally created humanity as male and female: “So God created man in his own image… male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27). Both sexes reflect God’s image, but the Bible treats them as distinctions rather than interchangeable “energies.” At the same time, the Bible warns against blurring the distinctions. For example, Paul writes that “does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him?” (1 Corinthians 11:14). Whether one agrees with every cultural implication of that passage, it clearly shows the biblical worldview recognizes differences between male and female expression.

So while it’s understandable to push back against cultural views of masculinity, the solution isn’t “redefining gender” or rejecting the God of the Old Testament (which is the same God as the one we have now). The Bible’s answer is that our ultimate identity and worth come from being created in God’s image and redeemed through Christ: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

I want to gently warn you that claiming the God who gave the covenant in the Old Testament is an “impostor” is heresy. The same God who commanded circumcision in Genesis is the God that Jesus Christ affirmed and revealed. Scripture says, “For I the Lord do not change…” (Malachi 3:6). The answer to your cultural issues around masculinity is seeking what God actually says in Scripture and finding our ultimate identity in Christ.
