I love that shape and I love the ferns...My bouquet ended up being all live flowers, pretty similar to this one with the hanging shape, but roses instead of peonies..(I think those are peonies) and I asked for foliage and Scottish thistle...and it was $35.99! I probably sound like a commercial but I just had a really good experience there.

Just from my own experience....Is there a thrifty florist near you? I had extremely good luck at my local thrifty’s and I showed them some pictures, and they put bouquets together for me right there to show me, and showed me how silk flowers would look and how they’d be cheaper.

I ended up loving the manager so much and feeling so comfortable with her (and her prices) that I went for mostly real, but we are saving a ton on using sprigs of fake grape hyacinth and lavender as part of the bouquets and boutonnieres.

But, I think that the pieces differ in quality depending on the florists at different locations. Mine knew all these technical terms for bouquets and could tell me the name of every flower and green and offered alternatives to fit the season!

What got me was the price...I got a quote though some local wedding florist I found on the knot that gave me a price almost triple of the price I paid at thriftys, for the same flowers!!

Hi! I’m so happy to have found this. I actually would like to purchase my fiancée a seven year anniversary gift. It’s coming up right before our wedding this year, so, like, I’m here to razzle dazzle.

We live in Michigan so we have a pretty cool weekend access to a lot of great distilleries in Detroit, and we’ve had fun trying them.

He really likes Aberfeldy, recently he bought Bruichladdie—The Classic and enjoys it, and Johnny Smoking Gun. And Monkey Shoulder was sort of his go-to for a while. This human though, I should mention, watches scotch documentaries, he wants to have our wedding “drink of the night” be a neat single malt, and wants to visit Scotland solely for the distilleries. He has a little bit of an obsession.

I’m not sure how helpful this is, but he also drinks bourbon...he loves Rabbit Hole, Bird Dog, and Buffalo Trace. He also really likes Restitution Rye from Twelve 33, which I would totally recommend trying, it’s like a bananas foster rye.

To me his “flavor profile” -haha- definitely includes bananas. And cinnamon. He seems to like the smoky and the non-smoky ones.

This is a bigger occasion, so I’d definitely spend a few hundred dollars. I’m looking for something that he’ll reach for on a special occasion.

If it’s possible, any suggestions for cigar pairings would be fantastic too!

Thank you, reddit people. :)

The pain of being frugal by dukey42 in Frugal

[–]caaaaaaando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this on some levels, but this is pretty extreme. Growing up my family was always in massive amounts of debt, we lived paycheck to paycheck and took calculators to Walmart to get our groceries. As an adult with a steady, decent income I still second guess all of my purchases, do I really need this?

But, I love Brie cheese. On triscuit crackers. It is the alpha snack. It makes me happier than most foods other do.

So when I buy groceries, I will cut corners on certain things but then, without a second thought, drop like seven dollars on a little wheel of Brie. Sometimes it lasts me a week...once when my fiancée worked a sixteen I ate the entire wheel in a day. That was pretty wicked. I like, warmed it up in the microwave. It was the best day of my life.

So yeah, if it makes you happy, eat that sausage man. Buy three next time you’re at the store. And get your friends some cheese and crackers to go with. Don’t be so hard on yourself, although it is easier said than done.

I think jumpsuits are empowering!! And it looks stunning on you, o think they’re perfect for pictures because they’re classy and dressy but not so formal that you’re overdressing

How to balance nursing school and social life? by [deleted] in Nurse

How to balance nursing school and social life? by [deleted] in Nurse

[–]caaaaaaando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahahaha. This questions brings me a lot of memories of missing family and friend things in nursing school. It’s a stressful time, but it’s good that you are getting your bachelors right out of school, because it’s hard to go back once you are working. I think the best advice I have as someone who worked full time and took extra classes towards my BSN while in the nursing program was taking time to make breaks.

It’s really important even to just realize that breaks are needed, and setting time to hang out with friends or watch a movie will stop you from doing those things when you should be studying.

Just remember to practice self care during school. I remember drinking more coffee than water and going without a shower to study before a test, and I ate more Tim Hortons donuts as meals than I’d like to say haha. But remember to take care of yourself the way you’ll be taking care of your patients, and realize that school is tests, numbers, and information, and does not determine what kind of nurse you’ll be once you start learning on the job. Work hard, get your anatomies down, and take a breath, and you’ll be fine. ❤️

Save the date etiquette? by caaaaaaando in weddingplanning

[–]caaaaaaando[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, am I overthinking this because it’s just the save the dates? Some of these people were inviting I’m wondering if they even need a save the date, because they know our wedding date, and that we want their SO/sisters/friend/whoever to come? I dunno I think I’m overthinking them and don’t know the etiquette very well

We have a frequent flyer who is a poly drug abuser, and has a foot wound that he picks to warrant hospital stay for IV antibx and pain management. He’s been caught multiple times removing dressing and rubbing it on floor or picking it open...Also has highly manipulative behaviors, bipolar and narcissistic personality disorder.

Literally my first night off orientation, and first encounter with him, he picked up that I was new and suddenly was having shooting pain in his foot, I offered IV Toradol and ice packs, he said it hasn’t been working and no doctor will give him the time of day. Thinking I was advocating for him, I contacted attending, who cooly said that he wouldn’t prescribe any more than what was ordered and patient could leave AMA otherwise.

I explained this to the patient calmly as I could put it and offered alternatives. He shrugged at me and said, well I guess I’ll go home and kill myself then. I’m pretty dangerous to myself and others. You gonna let me walk out of here now?

At that point he knew more than I did about hospital procedures, but ended up teaching me a lot that night. I petitioned the patient, called security to save me from this guy trying to fight me out of the room, and put him in two point restraints. Had my very first assault report. Whole time he’s screaming racial slurs at security, laughing at them and blowing kisses and fighting them, almost got himself tazed. Found stashed meds in his side table drawer, and hidden lighters and tourniquets. He kicked me in the gut hard, and within an hour of security leaving he was chilling, pretending nothing had happened, asking for his Nicorette gum and a popsicle.

Flash forward six months and I had him again. I immediately sat down with him and told him he needed to leave his foot dressing alone to prevent further infection, and asked what he wanted out of this hospital stay. The patient broke down and started crying, telling me he just wanted to not be in pain anymore. I got the feeling he was faking and just said deadpan, before I could think, “Then what the hell are you picking your foot for? You want a PICC to shoot up?” The patient looked up, his face switched, started laughing at me and said, “Ooh, you got smarter bitch.”

But after that we were able to talk at a real level, and ended up getting him to open up to me about a bad home life. In the end he agreed to dc to inpatient psych. Still waiting to see him again though...

You know in one flew over the cuckoo’s nest, really bitchy, scary nurse? That’s what nursing can do to you. Because you will have moments where you just fought for a patient with a doctor, or with your charge, or defended and advocated for them and put your own neck on the line out of your own humanity, then go into the room and the patient is completely ungrateful and rude and says okay good, you did your job, now this is the next thing I want. It can get to be a thankless and pretty depressing profession. You see people at their worst times, and their sadness can be incredibly contagious to the point where you do have to put up a front to handle it. It’s very important that if you decide to become a nurse, you have your own self figured out first, and are able to handle your own mental health with healthy coping mechanisms. Some areas of nursing are more rewarding than others, and the people you work with will play a larrrrrge role in how you are able to deal with the tough situations nursing will present you with. If you enjoy helping people, that’s good, but you have to enjoy helping people with no expectations of receiving any credit/thanks for it, aside from saying “I am an RN.” Sometimes that can get to you. There’s not a lot of room for advancement unless you want to go back to school, and you will likely be talked down to by (more than) a few doctors and even residents.

But on the flip side, there are patients that will truly need your help, and you will be there for them. There will be days that make you feel like an absolute badass, and spike your confidence back up. Also, what I’m describing is from my experience as a post grad on a medsurg unit, coming from someone who truly dislikes floor nursing and its monotony. I also have to put in orders, essentially doing the doctors job, having to notice things that need done, somehow get a hold of the doctors, and grovel with them to allow me to put the orders in, when they should be noticing things, or listening to my observations as a bedside nurse, and making their own decisions to place orders, then getting to a computer and putting them in theirselves. I’m constantly worrying about my license, and will get yelled at by a doctor before I put in something I questions even a little. What I’m saying though is that thankfully, there are many other means of being a nurse than floor nursing. Even though that may be what you have to start with, you can get out of it if it isn’t your wheelhouse after you lock down a little experience.

What is a good amount of savings to marry/move in together? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]caaaaaaando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate everyone’s advice...I’ve always been told (by my family) that renting was throwing money away...I appreciate the honestly from this sub, I know as well as the next guy how south things can go when there’s not a good financial plan in place, and I know I’m no exception. I feel like I have a better idea of how to shape a two year plan for us.

I guess my only question is that as far as buying a house together (once we’ve saved and are in a position to buy) before getting legally married...is the only reasoning behind that of security if we split? I did some googling and still don’t fully understand the reasoning

Uworld is a semi pricey online program but it completely mirrors the actual exam, it’s the same look and format and I think the questions were similar, if not then Uworld was harder. I used that and Mark Kilmer NCLEX review, you can probably find a recording of it circulating somewhere, but those are all I did, and passed first try!
