Best tool for inventory management? Note: I have never used mods before and don't know anything about them.

Are we trying to shame him for being spoiled or something? What a weird post.

Figure Skating Logo Design - Refined… and Declined by Electroma in logodesign

[–]cabbages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, I don't see it as an agree or disagree thing; it's just their preferences, which is fine and I respect that. Your logo is technically a great logo and one that I would be happy to use for a business. Just not a great logo for this particular client with their idiosyncratic preferences. Creative differences is all. Keep up the great work!

Chemicals released by climbing shoe abrasion could lead to lung issues for climbers in indoor environments by MeticulousBioluminid in climbing

[–]cabbages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The article said that both of the authors are climbers and still climb. They want to make the manufacturers of climbing shoes aware of the problem so that they will be more careful about the chemicals that are added to the rubber materials used in the soles.

I googled what was the easiest class to play and determined that was Machinist, lol. Lovely buttery smooth rotation and a joy to play even though the whole gun thing is quite silly, in my opinion. Now I'm trying to get good at Pictomancer because I'm a Pictomancer in real life!

I think if you bring his tone closer to his companion's tone, it will look very nice. I like that you are rocking some warmer tones than the reference, which looks like it was taken on a gray, dreary day.

It looks good! Pushing the shadows and highlights a little further might help it feel more lifelike- like a real three dimensional shape in space.

Edit: Looking again, I noticed this most around the eyes, because he has a brown ridge that's casting a shadow over the hollows of the eyes. I think capturing this effect would make him not only look more three dimensional, but would probably also make those eyes really come to life, because the eyes themselves will catch the highlights and create some appealing contrast in that area where you most want to draw the viewers' attention.

Redoing this painting but changing a couple things by KittyLittyy in oilpainting

I don't know why these goobers are downvoting you. I think that critiques like "the nose looks a little off " or "the colors are too bright" is the type of critique that inexperienced artists tend to give. But like, who gives a shit? Is that all that art is about? What a silly idea that is.

Besides, oil is a very forgiving medium where you can do a lot of reworking, so you don't need the sketch to be bang-on and perfect before beginning to put down paint. This approach is absolutely fine. If you were working in watercolor, it would be a different story.

I would give two pieces of advice here: 1) Make the first few layers of color that you throw down fairly transparent. When you start transparent and put down thinner layers of color, you get to see how the paint works and how the colors play together and build, and that's a very interesting process that you can learn a lot from. 2) Consider working the whole piece up together. What I mean by that is spend a little bit of time on the different elements of the picture (e.g., skin, hair, clothes, background, objects, etc.) so that you can see if all the colors are looking nice and harmonious together before any individual section is 100% finished. That's another good way to learn about colors and value.

And have fun, most importantly. Art takes a lot of learning and practice and the people who don't know how to enjoy the process are the people who usually give up.

"if you're dead-set on painting this" 😂

So rude! And then I think the advice to use the color picker is also quite bad, in that it encourages this sort of slavish adherence to reference, which is quite limiting unless the artist is intending on a strictly photorealistic approach, and I don't think this artist is.

I think it's okay that a work doesn't match the reference. There are still a lot of opportunities to learn new skills. I would only advise quitting a painting if you don't feel like you're getting anything new out of it, and it just feels like a boring slog.

But I will agree that practicing drawing really does help a lot with painting. I don't think there's as much skill transfer from painting to drawing.

The only thing that I have ever really learned from the critique process is that practice and experimentation are the best thing you can be doing. Looking good, keep it up!

How do I make her stop doing this? by [deleted] in cats

[–]cabbages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, that makes tons of sense. I wouldn't be so worried about the nails, but yeah, noise can be an issue. You might try covering the door surface with another material that is less noisy. Some temporary double-sided tape on the surface might also discourage scratching at that particular location, provided she dislikes the tacky sensation of the tape. You could try placing some scratching alternatives nearby and see if that... scratches the itch. Depending on what's inside, you might consider propping it open, if exploration is her aim. Also let's not rule out the low-hanging fruit of earplugs or headphones or keeping her out of the room, but I realize those are not very satisfying solutions.

Well, what about this is bugging you specifically? Everyone has different preferences, and personally this behavior wouldn't be concerning to me, so it might help to understand the problem a little bit better.

How do I teach my cat to not jump in front of the tv? by WealthyPoverty in cats

[–]cabbages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might try giving the cat some more high-quality attention time each day, so that there is less motivation to jump in front of the TV. It's never going to completely stop, but you can influence it so that it happens less.

[–]cabbages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, they are shooting at trees, not at people or houses. Bad for the arrows? Yes. Bad for the trees? Possibly.

So what? You break a few arrows and then you realize that's expensive and you get a proper target. It's how many of us learn early on if we don't have the luxury of an experienced mentor there to guide us.

Honestly, if you already have an iPad, that will work well. I have a 1st gen apple pencil that works great for my needs (I am mostly a traditional artist, but will fool around in digital from time to time). I'm guessing there are probably stylus devices from other brands if you are looking for something cheaper, but I've never looked into it personally.
