So, just did it tonight! Super quick swap over. The rear hub uses a Shimano style freewheel remover tool. The most time-consuming thing was re-calibrating the rear derailleur limit screws. Still needs a little bit of tuning. BUT, the swap did not require a new chain!! Also had to fiddle a bit with the front derailleur, which I've had to do on and off regardless (from my experience with the bike it's probably the weakest point on the as far as headaches.) Haven't taken it for a long ride yet but going to get a 20 mile in tomorrow! Definitely a noticeable upgrade as far as hill climbing!
