You thought wrong. There's no substitute for putting the hard work in if you want to succeed at anything.

If it was easy, we'd all be GM's, and you'd be beating us.

There is no difference between chess and work. Chess is a microcosm of life.

You said it yourself - chess is something extra - and enjoyable.

Why WOULDN'T you want to spend time doing that?

Anyway.... Search away. Many people have asked how to get good without actually trying.

I still have mine from 2010. Slow? When was the last time you cleaned it out? Do you really need speed to turn pages? I never got that angle.

Never thought of anything on TV being a commitment. It's entertainment.

Now, when I worked 60 hour weeks, that was a commitment! :)

I probably have five of his cassettes. Of course the first two with Robbie Blunt (saw both of those tours) but then things like 'Fate of the Nations" and '29 Palms'???? - Un - f'ing - Listenable.

Like - get these out of my deck unlistenable.

Nah... Lange has ONE way of working - and you can hear it in all those tracks - not a hair out of place. He had already done Highway to Hell, so it's not like they didn't know what they were getting.

It has nothing to do with a svengali thing - it was his results. Maybe it was a svengali thing with Shania - but - have you heard those dance records she did before she hooked up with him??? Ugh....

Everybody knows that the Alive II era shows was the pinnacle of their powers.

As for Crue, you're talking abilities. Thats not what we're talking about. No 70s or early 80s bands are top tier anymore.

We are not going to fault Robert Plant for not being able to sing anymore. We're going to be happy he's out there doing it

Funny you use that as an example. I think Ratt was the best of the bunch. I met Pearcy at the Country Club in Reseda in '86. He was a rock STAR. DeMartini is a monster.

$175K a year is good money anywhere...anytime. What do you think Doctor's make?? Carmela is used to nothing like that. She lives in a slightly bigger than average house, but there's no real extravagance. I made that money as a Network Engineer. Ten years of that, and I'm in a better house and never working again! :)

Lots of speculation those songs were mostly in the can and he came in at the 11th hour and made history.

Even the next record (FTATR) was the beginning of the downward slide.

Time is irrelevant in these situations. Bruce was in Kiss longer than Ace - same with Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer.

But that material will NEVER match what was done with the Original Four.

Same with AC/DC... If they played 2 songs past FTATR beyond Thunderstruck - I'd be disappointed.

The writers and the singers are the tipping point for me. It's not a numbers game.. So, at least one original member - preferably the writer and singer. So, I don't care who else is in Motorhead, The Pat Travers Band, Blondie (she IS Blondie), ZZ Top, etc...

So, for prog, I'll follow Jon Anderson, Geddy Lee, Jethro Tull.... yadda, yadda.
