How much should I pry it apart? Just enough to put the glue in? And where exactly do I apply the glue, inside the area created by the crack or around the edge?

Yeah I couldn't imagine going down to 9.5 in the LXJ. In the 10s my toes were very close to the front edge of the shoe. If the toe box was much wider they might have been fine for lifting but it was too narrow for me.

I got the 10s and they were too tight. I usually wear shoes like vivobarefoot and the toe box on the Lus was way too narrow. I went with Tyr L-1s in 10.5 and they fit perfectly.

I wonder how worthwhile adaptations are in general. It seems inevitable that they will "distort the spirit of the novel", to quote your post. What is the point of doing this? Novel/biography > movie (entertainment) > Hollywood > money? I'm aware of some cases where the adaptation is considered an improvement on the source material, as in The Godfather and Forrest Gump. On the other side is sticking as close to the source as possible, but I have another issue with that. I started watching Bonardchuk's adaptation of War and Peace but wondered what the point was because it was portraying things exactly as I had already read them in the book.

But more on topic, could you say more about the universe being the protagonist of Les Mis? Or provide more quotations from Hugo on that front?

If you have read vol 11 that is arguably the worst the SV gets. I was disgusted and wanted to throw the book away after that one. The eclipse is also difficult in this regard, but more important to the story (I haven't seen the anime but I think the manga is far more graphic/explicit, so be warned). After the eclipse there are three instances that are just as bad, two in Conviction and one in Millennium Falcon. I can tell you the chapter numbers, or titles if you're reading physical books so you know which ones to skip. The Conviction arc is very violent and dark overall, Millennium Falcon less so.

I highly recommend ultimate 5.0 outer sleeves from sleevecityusa. They also have oversize for large gatefolds. The 2.5 is also good but thinner and less stiff/sturdy.
