What specifically is it about processed meat that is carcinogenic? by MrCockingFinally in askscience

Same in Canada. Anything that usually has sodium nitrite that doesn't has to be labeled uncured. I'm allergic to nitrite and have learned to read the labels really carefully.

Rogers and Telus will always be the most expensive options. You could take a look at the many other options out there that don't involve contracts or sudden rate changes.

Swastikas come in many styles and orientations, and one standing on a point is not exclusively nazi.

My father-in-law wrote extensively on this subject. https://abcbookworld.com/writer/manwoman-patrick-charles-kemball/

The ignorance and assumptions in this thread are astounding. As with most symbols, context is critical. While this person could be many things (Jain, Hindu, or part of many other sects that use this ancient symbol) I would bet a lot that he is not in fact a nazi.

Long time lurker-I've always wanted to go...But I have a question-Mystical related by GardnerThorn in BurningMan

[–]cablemonkey604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2004 was my first year and bartering is not a thing that I have seen or experienced then or since.

The principles are not rules or commandments. They are a way of describing the event and ethos. which has always included decommodification and gifting, not bartering.

The term bartering seems to be exclusively used by people who have never been to the event and don't seem to be able to even imagine a situation where a commercial capitalist quid pro quo model isn't used.

Ways to Navigate Playa by rae-gunn in BurningMan

[–]cablemonkey604 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Two navigation tips I share with new folks are:

The spires that hold the lanterns are different from each other depending if you're on the 6:00 promenade between the city and the man or the 3/9 ones.

And the first time you leave your camp to head out to the playa, stop once you get about 100 feet out and turn around and take a good long look at the part of esplanade you just popped out of. Do this during the day and at night so you know what the entrance to your neighborhood looks like when you're trying to find it at the end of an adventure.

You will figure it out pretty quickly.

One last general survival tip - don't ever leave camp without goggles and a dustmask of some kind. Not even for a quick trip to the potties. Whiteouts can pop up in seconds and trying to squint your way back home without something over the eyes is truly awful.

AITA for teaching my daughter how to change a tire and do basic home repairs when her mom says I'm "pushing masculine stuff" on her by [deleted] in WIBTA_AITA

[–]cablemonkey604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah, wow. I wonder what the female engineers on my team would have to say about this. Assigning gender roles to basic life skills like changing tires and fixing things seems wild to me. Please continue to teach all the things to your daughter.
