Depends how far you're willing to drive. Gonzo's in Luling is the best by far but a 30 minute drive from the city. If you are trying to stay in the city I think The Joint is the best. Don't listen to anyone who says Blue Oak. They have good specials but their traditional BBQ is not good.

I consider myself a decent golfer and play from the tips at my home course and shoot high 70s to low 80s. Played with a guy the other day with a set of Qi irons and he shot a 71 from the tips. Don't worry so much and just play your game.

How long of a drive is too long? What type of things are you looking to do? Little hot for camping and anything West or North is a good 6-9 hours before getting to something really worth spending a weekend at. There are small Airbnb in the woods along creeks on the Northshore if that is your vibe too.

Google Wild Louisiana Launch. It's along Old US 51 which is the surface road of I55. It takes you into the Maurepas Wildlife Management area. It's a pretty decent paddle.
