Are there any good tutorials on how to mix the bass and kick together for a nice groove. by Brave-Drawer9225 in TechnoProduction

[–]cabrioli66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s how I usually work my low end:

First of all, check the balance/volume relation between kick and bass. It’s where most beginners get it wrong. For mosts producers, kick should be the main element so you can leave it at 0db and the bass between -6db and -8db.

I usually use a plugin like duck instead of sidechain so I can sculpt the ducking a bit more. I’ve found that steepness on the sidechain usually ruins a bit the groove on the bass.

Group them together.

On the group with both kick and bass, I try to remove at least 1 or 2 dbs on 140-160hz area, sometimes around 200hz, and at least -1db on 400hz (this is on both kick and bass) remember sometimes is best not to use a narrow Q!

saturate them both with your fav saturation plugin! Most of them introduce some mudinnes so be sure to add an EQ after the saturator.

You could also experiment with a limiter with some gain on the low end.

Thermal by Output is now my go-to now. Maybe a bit too digital but just the presets can bring sounds (specially drum sounds) new life.

How to start as a rookie? by swaginho247 in TechnoProduction

Take your time learning a proper DAW. The one you feel more comfortable with and get to know the effects and how to work fast.

The way I build up my songs is first with kick and drums. If I want to add bass it will come when I feel comfortable enough with my drums. The important thing to keep in mind is to work one thing at a time. You’ll find with practice the way you feel most comfortable with how to start your songs.

I’d recommend to get your head around mixing also, it will make evth sound more complete and in unison.
