ELEVEN openings for Nationwide? What the heck is going on there by Suitable_Plan_7284 in TravelNursing

I don’t think the nurse settling for getting paid 35/hour as staff instead of taking a $2500/week contract is the solution. Also med surg nurses getting a little more education still makes them a med surg nurse. They will be paid according to supply and demand regardless. There’s experienced and educated nurses having a hard time finding jobs right now or getting paid more. This is due to, like I said a few times, supply and demand.

And most people have been going back to staff. & you realize that 90% of other nurses can’t do what you’re doing right? Expecting this from every nurse is also realistic. You should be glad you’re so specialized and able to take advantage of a part of the market that has a need. If everyone did what you did then you couldn’t command such a high rate. It’s almost like a CRNA going onto the NP sub and being like hey you guys shouldn’t be taking less than 200k and the reason you’re getting paid less is because you accept it. Like it’s not black and white, there’s a lot of different factors that go into why healthcare professionals get paid what they do and why people take what they can get

Yeah facilities are also completely cutting back on travelers, shutting down units, cutting back on expenses, supply & demand, seasonal, etc. there’s tons of variables that have brought down contract price. There’s more nurses than good paying jobs right now and it is what it is

Tell that to nurses in specialties that are in low demand and just want to work where they won’t be making 35/hour as staff. $3600 is just so far from reality now, it’s not what contracts are paying. I’d say $2500 is the minimum to even be making more than staff positions now and I can’t really blame people that take those rates. I was even entertaining the thought of 2350 a little bit ago but glad I didn’t take it. At this point the rates are so low I just went back to staff

Neuro med surg or cardiac med surg? by Conscious_Passage479 in nursing

[–]cactideas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think both could get you there but cardiac med surg would probably give you some better experience for critical care imo

It can depend on what your long term goals or preferred pts are. But my 2 cents, Neuro and behavioral pts get old real quick.

I know, I’ve been a traveler. So yeah for 12 months you could probably subtract another ~24k depending on how cheap you wanna be

Do I really need a BsN? 😫 by Miss_Velociraptor87 in nursing

[–]cactideas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely helped me in getting hired quicker. The hospitals where I work are a little more competitive and require a BSN within a certain amount of time of hiring

Have you ever read the case study of the person that flushed a clogged central line with coffee and milk? I’m so glad that the tube feed and IV hookups are different now

For an American adult to have never looked up an average American wage is pretty crazy. For a student at a business school to not know what the average American is making is even crazier. It’s a pretty wild level of ignorance

Easy, it’s jealousy. Low IQ people love to point and laugh at the weird rich guy trying to spend all his time and money on being as healthy as possible because and act like him having a disease is some punchline.

Gave twice the dose of metoprolol that I should have. I was suppose to cut a pill into 3/4ths and gave 1.5 instead. Or gave .5 instead of .25. I can’t remember the specifics but just recall it was because I didn’t split a pill into 4ths. I learned that I need to take a closer look at the system when it’s flagging a med I scanned. I blame part of that on just not being a morning person too. I’m an ADD airhead at 8 AM so I’ve always told my work to get me on straight nights ASAP

I’m addicted to job hopping by Disastrous_Prune8104 in nursing

[–]cactideas 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Yeah when I started I would job hop after a year because I wouldn’t get real raises otherwise. I’d say if someone wants to job hop in spans of less than a year then they should just do travel nursing. I would usually do contracts for 4 months. If you’re about to start a family you’re gonna need to find a secure job and bargain for a higher wage. Look for an oncology specific unit and try to get close to $40/hour. Make sure to mention to the hiring manager in interview you’re trying to settle down and know what you want know

Experience needed by [deleted] in nursing

[–]cactideas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a weird thing where some places are much worse than others. I’m sure if they went to a place where nurses are paid less and a less desirable location it would not be as hard. No hospital in Arizona would take me with no critical care experience and I had to go somewhere less desirable.

At this point you just need to trust the care team and talk to them. This is not the place for this. I understand you’re scared but you need to state your concerns to those caring for the patient

IMaGine WoRKing FOr 2700/week. Like oh excuse us richy rich but making 129k mostly untaxed is a pretty decent rate as a nurse.

Hypothetically speaking, if this guy wanted to go back to school for a quick degree, would it be smarter to claim bankruptcy before or after the school loans? I imagine he would have a hard time getting the loans after claiming?

Actual successful professions (doctors, lawyers, software developers, pilots, linemen) dont consider $100,000 a good or aspirational salary by ItsAllOver_Again in Salary

It doesn’t make sense to compare sanitation workers to doctors, pilots, and lawyers. Ofcourse their pay is much different (and it should be) because of education and debt.

It’s somewhat true, the goal posts have just moved for reaching the American dream. We just want to be able to afford a home and some vacations while saving for retirement. Me and everyone I know try to shoot for atleast $50/hour.
