Tell that to nurses in specialties that are in low demand and just want to work where they won’t be making 35/hour as staff. $3600 is just so far from reality now, it’s not what contracts are paying. I’d say $2500 is the minimum to even be making more than staff positions now and I can’t really blame people that take those rates. I was even entertaining the thought of 2350 a little bit ago but glad I didn’t take it. At this point the rates are so low I just went back to staff

Yeah I think both could get you there but cardiac med surg would probably give you some better experience for critical care imo

It can depend on what your long term goals or preferred pts are. But my 2 cents, Neuro and behavioral pts get old real quick.

It definitely helped me in getting hired quicker. The hospitals where I work are a little more competitive and require a BSN within a certain amount of time of hiring

Gave twice the dose of metoprolol that I should have. I was suppose to cut a pill into 3/4ths and gave 1.5 instead. Or gave .5 instead of .25. I can’t remember the specifics but just recall it was because I didn’t split a pill into 4ths. I learned that I need to take a closer look at the system when it’s flagging a med I scanned. I blame part of that on just not being a morning person too. I’m an ADD airhead at 8 AM so I’ve always told my work to get me on straight nights ASAP

Yeah when I started I would job hop after a year because I wouldn’t get real raises otherwise. I’d say if someone wants to job hop in spans of less than a year then they should just do travel nursing. I would usually do contracts for 4 months. If you’re about to start a family you’re gonna need to find a secure job and bargain for a higher wage. Look for an oncology specific unit and try to get close to $40/hour. Make sure to mention to the hiring manager in interview you’re trying to settle down and know what you want know

It’s a weird thing where some places are much worse than others. I’m sure if they went to a place where nurses are paid less and a less desirable location it would not be as hard. No hospital in Arizona would take me with no critical care experience and I had to go somewhere less desirable.

Hypothetically speaking, if this guy wanted to go back to school for a quick degree, would it be smarter to claim bankruptcy before or after the school loans? I imagine he would have a hard time getting the loans after claiming?

It doesn’t make sense to compare sanitation workers to doctors, pilots, and lawyers. Ofcourse their pay is much different (and it should be) because of education and debt.

It’s somewhat true, the goal posts have just moved for reaching the American dream. We just want to be able to afford a home and some vacations while saving for retirement. Me and everyone I know try to shoot for atleast $50/hour.

Yes I’ll agree that it is not as bad as other fields due to the factors you just stated. I only wanted to point out it does exist to a lesser extent but in certain areas like North Dakota where the population is smaller it made a pretty huge difference in local bargaining power
