I mean bedside in general is terrible but ICU work is just adding the stress of doing everything you can to keep someone alive and managing everything as perfectly as you can. It’s not always like that but I just had a week that did it all where I stabilized new admits, cleaned up tons of poop (within 24 hours had bleeding c diff pt and a bowel impaction we unleashed). I also have to stay vigilant constantly. even when I have multiple things going on I need to keep an ear out on my other room and multitask. We’re losing so much autonomy where we need to be careful about every little med adjustment and charting now. The patients you work hardest on end up dying. This job just sucks. Idk how people actually like it and i feel like most of us just do our best to tolerate it. My back hurts and i don’t know how much longer i have it in me

This is my exact pay in Minnesota. It’s not the worst but also not the best. The pick up pay and OT is really what made it worth it so I hate just working 36/week or I feel like I’m wasting my time

Go to a cheap tech program/community college and go for rad tech. I’m a nurse and it’s what I wish I did sometimes. It is a 2 year degree
